Awesome lunch stop – Can't really beat paying a few bucks more than McDonald's prices for an appetizer and a filling main course...I LOVE SPICE!!!
What I love too is the CLEAN BATHROOMS...means the world to me as far as knowing the food is not going to make me sick later....
You gotta choose either shrimp fritters with that tangy sauce or veggie dumplings for appetizers...mmm, very tasty. Just a warmup, though, for Pad Thai (although slightly sweet here), or red curry (just the right amount of heat), or 3-flavored fish - lots of food in this one.
I also like their duck specials when its available...and spicy coconut soup. The only thing this place misses is great desserts.
great for a date – the food is really good and pretty cheap. the atmosphere is nice too...a littlecrowded. overall pretty good. its become my go-to place for takeout.
Bitter worker careless with customer's credit card info!!! – Delivery service just accidentally sent an order to my address bc dispatch wrote down the wrong address- it happens no problem. I called and let the server there know...he yelled at me, blamed me and then hung up. Someone out there paid for that food and that server who was there working tonight -1/1/11 7:30PM, doesn't respect that business. I will write to the owners and let them know as they do care about patronage.
Great Thai Food Experience – The food was wonderful. I would definitely go back again.
Great find! – I had pad thai and fried calamari and a dessert. The portion was very big and I and my friend shared the dishes and they all tasted good!! and we paid only like 30 bucks. It's very hard to find a place like this in New York, or the whole America. I will def go back.
I keep going back! – I love this place! Plus I always seem to get there right in time, before they give away the last 2 tables! I've been here w/ 4 people and we all love it. It's definetly at the top of my Thai food favorites. Their imitation duck is something to write reviews about, it's incredible. Service, cost, atmosphere, quality - all was good. My only complaint was that they include a 20% gratuity on all checks no matter how many you are or how much you spend. There was a time where I didn't feel the waiter deserved 20% and was frustrated with this system they had. I feel like if the waiter knows he's guaranteed 20% he's not going to work as hard b/c the outcome is always the same. If you're skeptical: order to go!
Used to be a fan... until... – I had a piece of hair in the food. They have poor service and the food is not that good. I would say you pass on spice.
Great thai for a good price – A popular place and always hard to find a seat, but if your in the mood for cheap, good thai food, it's worth the wait. The pad thai is wonderful along with many of their noodle dishes. The decor is fun.
not that great... – A lot of people seem to be obsessed with this place , and I'm not quite sure why. Sure it's cheap and its kind of trendy, but that's all it has going for it. The appetizers are okay - how badly can you screw up a spring roll - but everything else is a bit disappointing. all the food is bland and kind of tastes the same. The curries have vegetables that you'd normally find in an indian curry and were watery and bland. Pad Thai was okay. If you're looking for something convenient and aren't feeling too picky, spice will do, but it is NEVER worth waiting for.
Behind this trendy facade is bad seafood and awful service! – My experience at Spice was shocking! I had ordered my favorite Thai dish, hot sweet basil sauteed with shrimp. My plate came out looking beautiful, the sauce tasted fantastic. I mixed in my cone of rice, added in my condiments & then I tasted the shrimp.. it tasted like it had been sitting outside in 90 degree weather the whole day!! I called the waiter immediately, very politely explained the problem & requested the same order but with beef. Little did I know that they would take me so literally! Not only did they bring me the beef, but they brought it to me on the same plate! They had literally picked off the shrimp & added some stir fried beef to the plate with the sauce cooked with the bad shrimp. I could tell because the rice was mixed up with the sauce & condiments the way I had left it! The disgusting part was that even the manager saw nothing wrong in this! Her excuse to me was that I had eaten the rice so they didnt want me to waste it!!?! (What other corners must they be cutting to increase profits?) What made the experience even worse was that my friends had to put up constant interruptions to their meal. The busboy for some odd reason took offense and started screaming that I should pay for my plate of shrimp! The manager too just wouldnt leave us alone! She kept coming up to our table every 2 minutes & either insisted that the shrimp was good or that there was nothing wrong with eating beef cooked in a sauce with the bad shrimp. AND we werent the only people to suffer that day! Another table also had a similar experience with their crispy tamarind fish. Their bill, which included the price for the tamarind fish, arrived at their table before the dish. When they argued & got their fish it was also bad! Perhaps the day that I went might have been an anomaly in terms of the quality of their seafood but needless to say, the way in which they handled the situation prompts me to advise everyone to stay away!
