My tip for for the people who own this company....Hire a more professional staff equipped with the intelligence and grace to listen and respond to a patron's issues. Hire a decorating committee and learn to provide top notch service.

The Back Bay Gala was truly a disappointment. I expected elegance and charm, after all, it was advertised as such. The email I received specifically said people who are not appropriately dressed would not be let in, yet I stood in line to buy an overpriced cheap glass of wine with a few gentlemen who were in jeans and sneakers! Having to share space with the Resolution ball (21+ crowd) was not ideal or even expected.

The Gala was relegated to small undecorated room with no cocktail tables or a place to gather and talk with your group. Again I ask where is the elegance and charm in such a set up? This was a cheap stunt. I suppose the only plus was the live band. I should have trusted my gut when I could not find many, if any, positive reviews for this event. We couldn't allow ourselves to stay and lose more of our money. NEVER will I attend another event run by this company. What a shame.

We found a lovely, charming, decorated, elegant party including a live band that was FREE to get in with lovely lounge table to sit at just around the corner. Spending $12 to $15 for a top grade cocktail at this place was well worth it.

Who runs this place? Who is the entertainment/activities manager? The so-called Back Bay Gala 2013 at the Sheraton Hotel, 39 Dalton St, Boston, was very, very disappointing on multiple counts: not a trace of any festive decorations in the dining room, the dance floor room and on the tables, not a single balloon or paper garland! (direct staff quote: "We don't do that"), a cheap single selection of CA Chardonnay and Merlot, a single gin (Beefeater) in plastic cups and glasses for $12-$14 a cup, Blue Moon beer at $10 (7 times the retail price!) and $6.25 bottled water, puny kiddie 'desserts', coffee in paper cups, and the volume of champagne visible only with a magnifying glass--you get the idea, all that for $320 a couple (drinks excluded, of course.)

All this signifies greed and a utter lack of class and concern from the 'management' to provide a proper and expected ambiance to the revelers. They treated the Gala like their usual daily fare, an annual conference of some association of pink canaries or whatever, which is what they do there. If not for our fun company, decent Blue Dogs, and a tolerable by very limited roast beef buffet, the so-called 'Gala' would be a total disaster. Not the way to celebrate the arrival of the New Year, that's for sure. Not ever there again.

Love the Back Bay Gala – I really enjoy dancing to the Love Dogs so any chance to see them is super. Adding this to a NYE event where we can stay overnight and enjoy all the amenities of a party is superb. I've really enjoyed the BBG because the dinner option is fun and allows us to meet nice people to hang out with during the celebration, as well as do our own thing. We've found the drinks are great, and the dancing, of course, is just a blast. No cheesy boring event, BBG is just pure fun.

Looking forward to another fun New Years!!! – I went to this in 2006 and again in 2010. I love the updates you've made since 2006 and we are working on bringing a larger group this year. I highly recommend this event. The Love Dogs were so much fun to dance to. The ability to enjoy New Years with hundreds of other 40+ guests is not found in many locations in Boston. I also like that as a Back Bay Gala guest we could drop into the larger event geared towards young professionals but they were excluded from going into the 40+ room.

My only feedback/update from last year is to have a separate 40+ entrance silent auction from the younger event . I called to request this and was told you are including this update.

Thank you for listening to feedback and planning a great event!

Happy New Year!

Jim

Don't waste your time or money on Back Bay NYE Gala – The Back Bay Gala held on December 31, 2010 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston was horrible. It was $18.50 for a plastic cup of white wine and a drink made with 'Effen' Vodka. The crowd was a bunch of 20 an 30 year olds running around with dresses that were way too short for their weight. No one working there knew anything about the gift bags that I prepaid and the restrooms were filthy after 11 pm. The website claimed the party was at Seaport Hotel, where I was staying, but it was across the street. The hotel is big and it was a long walk in high heels without a coat. It was an awful experience and a ripoff.

A good time, but... – In a nutshell, the problem was this: On what should have been one of the most romantic evenings of the year, the band -- the Love Dogs (who are also playing this year) -- did not play a single slow number during the final hour and a half of their gig. Not that their fast numbers were all that great. With an audience of boomers and an incredible 60s/70s repertory to choose from -- Motown, the Beatles, etc. -- they chose such gems as "Build Me Up, Buttercup." Still, they are a talented group. Now if someone would just talk to them, maybe buy them some new sheet music....

BEST NEW YEARS EVENT I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO! – This is the event for baby boomers to go to. I went last year and enjoyed the top tier option. I told my friends already so i thought I would write a review so i can let more people know about the amazing experience i had last year.

Boston Event Guide is the party host. I have been to many of their events and they care and always do a really good job. The staff at the Colonnade was super nice and friendly. The food was delicious and i met some nice people at the event that i kept in touch with. We made plans to re-connect this year again. I have been to my fair share of events over the years and when you find something good you tell others. I can't wait to attend and Ialready booked my tickets and hotel room. All i have left to do is rent my tux. So glad to see you on citysearch.

Happy New Year!

Best,

Rick

Editorial Review – More than 500 Baby Boomers are expected to ring in 2006 to the sounds of a live swing band.
