Dog Friendly: Good Food and Coffee – North Oak Cliff is the hippest area of town. Bishop Arts has unique shops and cafes. The Nodding Dog is certainly one of them. Breakfast is what I usually have. I bring my dog and sit on the porch and smoke. Cheesy hashbrowns were a delightful surprise. People are unique in the cliff as well and people watching is an added bonus. If you seek an 'un-Dallas' vibe in Dallas, head to Bishop Arts. Any ethnicity, gay, straight, or other. N. OC is the only place in Dallas I see this kind of mingling. BTW.. in ref. to other review. I've only had good experiences at Hatties.
As for Nodding Dog: Warm, inviting, with a shady, peaceful, interior and comfortable chairs. You'll ditch the corporate monsters in a heatbeat.
Warm, welcoming cafe with service, food and personality to spare! – My first time to visit The Nodding Dog was yesterday with a friend, for lunch. From the moment we stepped into this deligtfully eclectic cafe, we were greeted by the owner, Darren, and quickly began discussing the menu and his recommendations. Since Darren operates The Nodding Dog as well as bakes, cooks and serves, he was able to steer us precisely to what our palettes would find agreeable.
My friend and I had the grilled quesadilla that held loads of provolone and feta cheese layered with carmelized onions and pastrami. It was served with homemade, seasoned chips and was incredible. The portion size was large, but perfect for us and afterward, we both took some house-baked pastries with us for the afternoon.
Excellent customer service, warm, comfortable atmosphere and wonderful food and desserts. What more could you ask for?
Great place – Anyone know if Nodding Dog has Wifi or free Wifi?
Great low key and artsy place. Great for dates, relaxing or studying. Poetry readings are done on Friday nights at the soda shop down the street.
Their desserts are the best kept secret in Dallas – The Nodding Dog came to our rescue after a disastrous visit to Hattie's, which is across the street. The warm greeting by the friendly staff at Nodding Dog immediately washed away the chill reception we had received across the street. Perfectly prepared lattes and some of the best desserts available anywhere; it's a great place to recharge during a Saturday night on the town.
Lots of surprises at the beat coffee house in Dallas! – Here's what Dallas is saying about Nodding Dog Coffee Company.
Paper City - May 2004
"A cozy neighborhood cafe located at the crossroads of the trendy Bishop Arts District."
"Leave the overcrowded coffee shops behind and cross the river to this cafe that serves up the comfort of community."
D Magazine - April 2004
"Gus Trevino & Darren Humphrey have fashioned a cozy, comfy spot, tucked within the Bishop Arts District, where locals sit, sip, and actually converse."
Bishop Arts District coffee and cafe thrives on the neighborhood feel and local arts scene. – In Short
Long walls and a high ceiling offer ample space in which to display work by Dallas artists. The few tables scattered outside are crowded in good weather. Caffeine addicts with a conscience will appreciate the selection of Fair Trade Certified coffees and teas. For a light snack, the pastry case contains plenty of sweet temptations, such as homemade cinnamon roles and a cake assortment, or a short menu lists salad and sandwich options.
