Lets try this again – I remember this place when it first opened and it seemed to me that service was a lot more tentative. Over all a good experience, just need to be somewhat patient with the staff. If you enjoy trying new and fun things this is the place to go.

Fun atmosphere and service – I enjoy this location much better than the one on Washington. It feels less retail-ish. The service has almost always been good here. I can't say much about the food since I normally eat before I come. Some people say it's too expensive here but what do you expect when you get classiness? Cheap? Nice atmosphere, good wine, and good service do not equal cheap prices. I just wish we had more wine venues in the NW part of Houston. This is a great place if I'm in the area.

Overall seemingly good service, but parking a pain – Note: Myself and friends visit many wine venues around town and Cova (on Kirby) is probably one of our favorites. We don't like Cova on Washington that much because it feels more like a retail shop and like C*rkscrew up the road, the bums asking for money gets old. Try to make it to the Kirby location if you can. Comments about Kirby: 1)The atmosphere is very nice. 2) I've only had basic appetizers there, so I can't comment on the food. I've heard some people complain about the service, but I've never actually had a problem. One time it did seem to take a little too much time to get our wine, but it all worked out 'cause the server was very helpful. 3) Parking seems to be the biggest drawback to this place. I hate to pay for valet when the guy is going to park it 5 feet from the front door (so it seems). 4) The location is pretty easy to find and surrounded by lots of other "things-to-do". 5) I've heard others complain about prices, but when I go to a classy place I'm not trying to save a buck, I'm going to enjoy myself. It's not THAT much different than all the other wine bars in Houston on price. If you want cheap, buy the bottle and go home!

Overall, great atmosphere, service and location. Parking is a pain but I sometimes get lucky with Rockstar parking.

I want to marry the Cova Chefs!!!! – I've heard wonderful things about this place, but I'm the type of person that if you talk something up to me so much, I will usually be dissapointed. Not the case for Cova Hand Selected Wines. I don't know a thing about wine, but the servers were very pacient and helped me select the perfect pairings to go with my food. The wine was fantastic, but the food, WOW. I'm not kidding when I say that I tried almost everything on the menu starting the cheese plates and the salads. I then moved on to the smoked salmon and the duck rillette, all I can say is that it just melts in your mouth. After I let my stomach take a break, I studdied the menu and was suprised at the prices. Very reasonable for the quality of food that this establishment features, when you compare them to others around town, you'll find them very competative. I finished off the night with the duck breast and the lamb which was just as wonderful as i would have expected them to be after such a fantastic start. But what I was not prepared for was the dessert menu; at least 7 different desserts with recomened wine pairings!!! They were so good that I had 3 of them; the bread pudding, the chocolate trio and the sorbets. Yes I will probably need a second stomach soon so that I can keep eating here. Especially since I found out that there is anouther location off of T.C Jester and Washington. I will be going to that one very, very soon!!

Valet Service – As far as the restaurant and bar is concerned, I have never had any problem with the quallity or the service at either location. Yes, it is very pricey for what you get in the food department. My problem with Cova is their valet service and how the owner (Mr. Monsterville I believe) handled an incident that cost me a lot of money.

On October 10th, my friend and I went to the Washington St. location, and made the mistake of handing over my Porsche 911 to the valet attendent. I assumed that a nice place like Cova would hire a competent service to take care of customers' cars properly. That was at about 7:00 P.M. We had dinner ($120.00 plus tip later) and at 9:15 P.M I went out to collect my car. The car was presented to me showing the drivers side, and it was dark. I notice the spoiler was up, which only goes up if you go 75 MPH or know whee the button is. There is no need to push the button the put it up in a parking lot. I accused the kid of taking my car for a quick joy ride and of course he just stook there and shook his head no while I was yelling at him. I got in my car and made one stop before going home to a protected driveway. The car was in my site the whole time. Next day I went to a car wash at 3:00 P.M. and saw that the front right panel close to the bumper was severely damaged and a light knocked out. I called Cova and spoke to a manager, Alex. He was helpful, but it stopped there. I asked to the owner to call, but instead had a manager call and tell me they wouldn't do anything. It is the Valet service, Lion Valet service, that was at fault. Damage: $780.00 for the priveledge. I went to Cova that afternoon, and it was denial, denial. One of my best friends had the same thing happen at the Kirby location that Saturday night. Brand new Toyota F7. Same deal. No response or action. I am now going to pursue it in court for damages from both parties. Moral: park someplace else if you go there. Better, not at all.

Unfortunately disappointing – You know, I really want to like this place. I live nearby and have been a few times. I like good wine and good food, and have had lots of it over the years. I was at the Kirby location last night, and it probably will be my last. I don't really get the concept of the place - so much of the floor space is taken up by wine racks and the seating is pretty limited. The biggest problem is the pricing - it's completely over the top. There are only a couple of reasonably-priced glasses on the by-the-glass list, and there is not much in the way of affordable variety. I ended up drinking a $9 glass, a $15 glass, and a $24 glass, just to get me the kind of wine I knew that I would enjoy. I had smoked salmon, which was fine, but the bread they serve with it is boring, white, and squishy. Smoked salmon should have toast points or a harder, dark bread... it's just one of the little things that makes a difference. I also had the smaller-sized portion of the steak. Again, it was fine and cooked properly, but certainly nothing special for the relatively high price. Finally, I had the chocolate cake dessert, which was entirely disappointing. I should have sent it back. It tasted like a stale brownie.

Anyway, I haven't been to the location on Washington, but I'm not encouraged to go try it out. I would assume the pricing structure is the same, which I just can't figure out - they have to be pricing themselves out of the market, with all the other competition around town. I would appear that way, as it was very sparsely populated during prime time last night (a Friday night). I hope something changes over there soon.

Horrible Food and Service – WTF happened here? This place use to rock....now the food is subpar and the service even worse. Wine is still spectacular as usual. Where are all the friendly faces? Its always new staff all the time and the food is never consistent. I asked the manager (just trying to discuss the issues) and he brushed me off, probably because I wasnt spending over 1000.00 dollars. Nope just a regular guy, nothing extravagant, but that shouldnt get me subpar treatment, should it?

But dont worry, they have another location on Washington is pumping out some of the best food in houston right now, AND the service is still great. I would recommend the extra 5 minute drive for an outstanding dining experience. Sundays they have live Jazz now too!

Great Wine Selection – All my experience at Cova have been positive. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. They are knowledgable about the wine sold there, not just whats on the happy hour menu. I don't generally people watch but the location and spirits make it an interesting place to watch others. In the evenings it gets pretty loud, but not unbearably or obnoxiously so, and the volume is a welcome respite from library-esp wine places. But, I wasn't impressed by the food. I think they should add one or two simplers dishes for those want something more familiar with a nice glass of wine. Oh yea, the parking lot is land locked.

Cold food, worst service and a bad odor. WTF – My food was subpar but the wine was the winner here. Great selection, best of Houston's. Will be back for the wine. The owner has stayed true to the theme with higher standards but needs to work on the points of service. It took 40 minutes to be seated and a five minutes for a server to greet our table.
