Fun for a girls' night (or day) – Cova is a great place to go if you're sick of the typical bar scene. The menu is reasonably priced and the food is great. It is fun to sit on the patio on a sunny afternoon or for dinner on the town. The waitstaff is inconsistent; sometimes they are very friendly and knowledgable and other times they don't know we're there. Also fun for happy hour at the bar!
Great Place – My first time at Cova was more than enjoyable. The food was amazing, of course the wine was definitly not second place either. The crowd was hip, trendy but very chill The service was on par with everything and I cant wait to go back with the girls for ladies night on Sunday night. It is happy hour all night long
Great Tapas and Wine – There are many good Tapas places that have a decent wine list, but this place is a good Wine Bar that has pretty good Tapas (not the best) which is a plus to me. I have never sat outside, but the inside has a nice romantic feel to it. The wine list is extensive although a bit pricey. The Tapas served are delicious, especially with a nice wine to compliment it. The staff has always been friendly and helped us pick out a good wine to drink. My girlfriend and I like coming back here mostly for the Cheese platters or the meat and cheese platters. Also, they offer many different kinds of wine flights depending on your taste, whether it be full-bodied, italian, strong, blushes, etc... they have something for everyone.
best overall wine bar – this place offers a little bit of everything, though all superb! the wine flights gives an array of options to choose from to satisfy your preferences, an impressive list of artisinal cheeses are equally satisfying to the discerning tongue, and the extensive menu of tapas (though a bit pricey) can give one a nice dining experience. all reasons as to why this place gets so crowded on friday and saturday nights. the staff are knowledgeable and accomodate your every need. the ambience can be described as trendy, but laid-back and romantic. everytime i come here with friends or my significant other it has been an informative and educational journey about wine and cheeses - all big pluses in my book to an excellent and enjoyable wining experience. if you want to further your wine education, cova offers a variety of wine courses. definitely a place to go to take a date, chill with a group of friends, or have a pleasant wine experience. *
Enjoyable venue, good food – I don't know how many times I've driven past this place and not even seen it. Cova's is a great find on Washington. I do wish the menu had more on it, but the items they do have are very tasty and come out with a nice presentation. Wine can be bought by the bottle inside the store/dining area and then opened for a minor corkage fee. The service was adequate, but they made up for this by bringing a complimentary glass of wine to our table. I am sure we will return to Cova's.
Wine, wine, wine!!! – This is a great place for taking dates to enjoy wines by the glasses, bottles and flights. They also have great little bites to enjoy.
West U wine shop and tapas restaurant features accessible, hand-selected wines and an eclectic menu of New American and Latin dishes. – In Short
With a decidedly down-to-earth vibe, the folks at Cova make it easy to spend the day browsing through the well-stocked shelves, with more than 500 selections. Buy the whole bottle or sample by the glass or two-ounce taste. In the evenings, customers order from a menu of small and large tapas (raciones). Cold offerings include organic beef carpaccio and artisanal cheese plate. Braised oxtails with chipotle potato puree; seabass; and New Zealand lamb chops with a savory flan and pressed panini comprise the more substantial entrees.
HORRIBLE!!!! – This place had the RUDEST waiter who did not even know what he was talking about with wines first of all. On top of that, they would not accept my friend's out of state ID. What kind of NONSENSE is that? So people from out of town cannot drink here??? It's ridiculous enough that a person of age cannot even enjoy a drink, but they totally perpetuate the stereotype that Texans are not concerned of anything outside of Texas. The waiter didn't even have the guts enough to come and tell us that, the manager had to do it. I WOULD NOT go to this place ever again nor would I recommend that you take any out of town guests there or their friends!!
Most Knowlegable Staff – This place has a great wine list and the people working really know what they're pouring. The ambience is striking with wood floors and wine bottles everywhere.
Not consistent – Unfortunately, I have to give Cova an average rating because I had one really wonderful experience there that was later followed by a terrible experience. The wines are great, and the staff seems knowledgeable. I would recommend this place if you have a small group or a very large group that requires a reservation. That way, you'll get a table inside, where the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. If you have a party between 5 and 10 people, you'll be banished to the sidewalk, where you share the strip mall concrete with the neighboring Chipotle customers (I personally don't appreciate being lumped with a fast food restaurant when I am having a night out at a sophisticated wine bar). I was in a party of 7, and for some reason the kitchen was extremely confused and didn't turn out our correct orders until 50 minutes after we ordered. When the food arrived, it was underwhelming and not worth the wait. I was truly surprised that this was the same place where I had previously had an amazing evening. I will probably return to Cova, but next time I will bring fewer people and specifically request to be inside. The selection here is better than the one at Wine Bucket, and the flights are worth trying. Hopefully the management and kitchen can pull it together for more consistent service.
