Please, don't ignore the negative reviews like I did. :-( – I do NOT recommend this place ... ever. After reading incredibly split reviews and ignoring people's warnings on Yelp about the services being jacked up once you get to the cash register, I still went.
The salon is clean and convenient which is why I ignored the warnings. The staff is sitting around waiting for clients and one jumped up to do my pedicure. Everything seemed fine, however, she cut my toenail with a clipper and dug pretty deep into the side of my toe.
After the service, I went to the desk to pay and instead of a $50 pedicure, they charged me $71. I put up a fight about it but they simply shrugged and said that's how much it was. um, change your menu then. And who in the world charges THAT MUCH for a basic pedi??
Fast Forward to a week later, my improperly manicured toe turns into a nightmare of an ingrown. I had to go through two procedures to get the amount of infection and ingrown nail fixed. I went into the salon after the procedures and they asked me to email images to the owner. It's now been two weeks and no one has responded to my situation.
They are overpriced, they lie about their pricing, they CUT NAILS in very scary ways and then have nothing to say about it. I am dreading the medical bills for this and the amount of work I lost in the time I couldn't walk. SO UNCOOL! Avoid at all costs. There are so many salons here that the Podiatrist recommended to me that are cheaper and smart with the way they do their services.
Sub par manicure – Needed a manicure prior to heading out for a vacation and have used Spa 25 in the past. Although my first experience there resulted in a damaged nail that took about 6 months to grow out, I decided to give it another try and was lucky enough to get Clara who made my nails look fantastic and the mani lasted almost a week. I used her several times, but when I walked in last week, it was to find that Clara was no longer there (guessing she was let go), they assigned a young man to me. After having to ask him twice to be gentler with the push back, he was still too rough. Bottom line, mani did not even last 24 hours... had 3 nails chip on the first day because he didn't tip off. Will not be returning to Spa 25, but will try Black Label Salon given the reviews on this site.
Black Label Salon on Exchange Place – I have been working down on Wall St for many years now and have been going to this salon after my long work day for all my beauty treatments- it's SO convenient! I recently learned that Salon 25's "sister salon," Black Label Salon on 43 Exchange Pl is offering AIRBRUSH TANNING- I went to check it out and it was amazing... Rene offered an amazing service with a skin preparation spray, customized color to my needs (I just wanted a healthy glow) and a finishing spray that tightened and moisturized my skin! The best part is I was able to take a shower less then 5 hrs later! $70 is really reasonable and now I don't have to trek uptown for my tan! Thanks Rene I'll definitely be back!
Salon "Zero" – I work in the Wall Street area and used to go to Queenie's Nail which was a) very clean b) very friendly, as far as nail salons go and c) reasonably priced, but unfortunately they closed down and I haven't been able to find a viable substitute. I went last night for a mani/pedi. I was escorted to a room that had an arid air, no massage chair and a faux louis vuitton pillow. The pedicure wasn't anything special, no spa foot massage and the cost $25/pedi. It was rushed and the woman slapped my legs, verse any sort of leg massage. When I inquired about what the gel pedicure entailed the woman seemed annoyed and said "just gel in water" which led me to believe it wasn't going to be worth the $45. Then for the manicure .. most of the nail polishes looked like they've been there for one year and have been thinned out so much that the color is barely recognizable. I decided to change the color on my toes (wicked) to a pinkish color and noticed they had OPI brand polish. I politely said I'd like to change the color. I barely walked over to the shelf to look at the colors when in a huff she comes over and says abruptly "you pick color, we very busy now with customers" .. I believe 3 people entered the salon and there were sufficient manicurists to assist them. So I reminded her that #1, I am a customer and #2 this is suppose to be a relaxing experience. The last straw was when I paid with a credit card and had to tip her. I gave her a $10 bill and asked for change .. she gave me two $5 bills.. I was going to give her $8, but decided on $6 .. after further thought, I shouldn't have given her anything. I left feeling stressed, rushed with pink polish on my cuticles and blotched polish on my thumb nail from the quick dry droplets.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE .. save your time, money, and energy .. go somewhere else.
Clean Place for Good Nails + Bad Customer Service – I have been going to Salon 25 since they first opened and almost have never had a problem squeezing in for a last minute mani/pedi or for waxing services. Recently, however, with the influx of new residents in the Financial District, and the salon being busier on weekends, I have had to endure terribly long waits. The front desk is really thrown off when the salon gets busy and yesterday was no exception. I came into the salon for a pedicure, expecting to be greeted by reception, and was rushed through, with no confirmation of waiting time or anything. I was left in the waiting area, with no indication that I would be serviced anytime soon. And to make matters worse, more customers came in through the door, and they were greeted with the same response "Choose your color, please." Finally, when a set of other customers came in for mani/pedis, they were ushered into the pedicure room. I had to literally squeeze myself into that room with those customers, who I am fairly sure had arrived after I did. One of the technicians told me to wait around. and filled basins for me and another customer. I looked around the room-- nearly all of the beauticians were busy with other customers. Were they going to expect me to wait another 15 minutes? With no answers in sight, I decided to walk out of that salon for good.
Salon 25 has lost a customer for life. The customer service has definitely declined. I don't mind paying more than the average corner nail shop for a good manicure or pedicure-- but what I do expect in exchange for that $35 pedicure-- is service. I hope they improve, if only for their future customer base's sake. As for me, I'm going to find another neighborhood nail place.
i LOVE JUNE!! – Been there once before for a bikini wax- I forgot the lady's name when I returned a year later but I went back anyway because it was so great. I got June, who was painless and so quick, I barely even noticed that she was working on me! I don't think I will ever go anyplace else!!
Great Pedicures! – I have been going to Salon 25 on John Street since they opened about a year ago. Their pedicures are great. They have a nice calming ambience,they put fresh lemons into the foot baths, and spend quite a bit of time making your toes perfect. I have been to many salons midtown and uptown..this place is one of the cleanest and best as far as end results. I have had pedicures at very fancy spa's like the "Red Door Spa" that don't come out as well as they do at Salon 25. Yesterday I was having a terrible day, so I decided to treat myself to a pedicure. One hour of shaping, buffing, and massaging for $27 and I felt like a new person.
Ask for Yelena – I have been going here for a few months now to get a Brazilian wax from Yelena. She is always friendly, and talks me throught the pain. She certainly makes the procedure less embarassing... I feel like I'm having coffee with a friend each time I leave there. She also gives one of the best manicures ever... Her work is always top-notch. She may be the reason they stay in business... and the only reason I will pay their ridiculous prices! if you go there, ask for Yelena!
Another financial district let-down – I just started working in the area, everything down here is sub-par... was excited to see a nice looking place with pretty positive reviews. Got eyebrow wax and manicure yesterday. Manicurist was disinterested and the polish was applied so thick it was peeling within hours. The eyebrow lady - while she did give me a nice brow shape, not only ANSWERED HER CELL PHONE while working on me but also BURNED ME... I have a nasty scab on my right eyelid... painful and NOT pretty!!!
Overall, HUGE disappointment.
Great service at a great price – I am not sure what comparison the other reviewer was making but it is not fair to compare the prices here to the corner nail places that specialize in fake nails and gels that require power tools to remove. This is a nice salon with a great non-nonsense atmosphere that offers exceptional service at prices much lower than comparable Midtown options. While you get a great manicure, be sure to pay the extra $ for a 10-minute massage - it is definitely worth it. The staff could not be friendlier.
