“All that aside, this place is not fun to be in.”
“The annex is a good spot for a few drinks and some good music but for a table reservation, I would not recommend.”
“Sound was great, pbr was average priced if not cheaper than some of the bars in that neighborhood, liquor selection seemed good, and the door price wasnt incredibly cheap but not bad for the size of the place.”
“Has an upstairs area with seating that overlooks the downstairs area; this area would be a good place to sit with a date -- you're at a cool spot but you can sit and talk.”
“It was cool and a nice place to relax when i was there on a monday, i'd come back.”
“awful staff”

“Very smokey & takes too long too get your overpriced watered-down drink”
Rudest Staff I've Come Across. The bouncer Keith was the nicest man ever. He welcomed us to the bar freely and was excited at the idea of having a bunch of girls at Annex. However, the woman collecting the $5 at the door rudely asked us group of girls WHY we were entering the bar. She then proceeded to call my 115 pound friend a fat *ss and to move along. She called us b*tches and spoke innapropriately to us. As we walked up the stairs she screamed profanities at us for no reason at all. When we left and spoke to the bouncer he apologized greatly. I do not write reviews, but I thought it was worth it to let people know to avoid this hell hole. I have never encountered a ruder person in my life. The staff is rude and mean-hearted people. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THIS PLACE!
Really - all that attitude on a Monday?.
Could be a cool place but it's like their deliberately trying to be obnoxious to show that they're cooler than you. Except they're not. I came to see a friend's band who was playing there and he almost cancelled because the woman at the door was so rude to us. They are in the business of ripping off inexperienced bands of cover charges, not developing a live music scene. A band would have to be desperate to play there again.
The strange thing is they have a nice place and a great sound system that they play so loudly it's no longer enjoyable and that's why they can act hostile because there's no way they'd ever repeat business. The one positive in the whole place from my experience is the doorman who was actually very nice and funny.
Very smokey & takes too long too get your overpriced watered-down drink. This place was once ok. But the past two times I was there it was a waste of a night. The music is alright sometimes but they seem to think by allowing smoking downstairs will make up for waiting an uncomfortably long time for a very watered-down well drink that I just paid $8 for. I smoke and believe me, it's not worth it. Not much seating and management seems dim. Go to Pianos instead.
fun hipster club!. great for people watching. amazing concerts upstairs, adorable DJs downstairs who know their music. i don't consider myself a hipster (usually frequent clubs in the meatpacking district) but i always end up leaving this place feeling happy and excited. dress like a hipster to get in. avoid this club if you're a non-smoker b/c they allow smoking in their basement (small, crowded place filled with smoke!!).
Overpriced, mind bendingly bad service, hostile attitude. Was at a show at this club in which every employee was downright haughty and hostile to band members and patrons alike. Would recommend everyone to stay the f**k away from this gaggle of a**holes. For the record, I'm a nice fellow and am not in the business of writing flippant, negative reviews. This is a well considered submission.
A great place to see shows. We went there last night and saw some great bands! Actually been checking out shows there for awhile now. They have great bands there. The cover is cheap (around $6) compared to other clubs in that area. The sound there is amazing, probably the BEST sound in LES! It's just a good place to see shows. Have to say I hate the bouncers there. But bouncers are just bouncers.
Worst place in the area.
I definitely agree with the other most recent reviews. The bouncer and others waiting in line were rude and LOUD. Music was okay, but nothing special. The crowd was pretty uniform and lame. $5-$10 cover too (weekends, I think). Ambiance wasn't that great either.
There are lots of other places in LES with better everything: better rockin' music, more attractive crowds, better drinks, more polite bouncers, and more respectful partiers. Choose one of them instead.
Can you say wierd, don't even bother!. We went to the annex to meet a friend for his b'day, only to find that we would not be let in unless we were on a guest list or VIP. I guess this is okay if you are a weirdo, because that is the only type of people being let into this place. The bouncers are strange characters and think they are pretecting some hidden jewel inside which doesn't exist. Our friends finally met us outside and thanked us for saving them from the sketchest bar and the worst DJ they heard in a long time. The east village has a million great bars so skip right past this place so you can actually enjoy your night!
Bowie, The Stones, Blur.... Last weekend we went to The Annex for my 22nd birthday celebration... and I cannot tell you how much fun my friends and I had. This place played the BEST music!! The DJs were lost in a cloud of pink, purple and green lights and LOTS of fog... the silouette of the DJ and the turn tables was just fantastic. I plan on making the trip to NY a couple more times this year, and I will totally be checking out this club again.
I totally DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. I am stupid enough to have read these 3 prior reviews: 9.1 rating!? wtf? More like 0. They all recommended this place but it was seriously HORRIBLE! I had the worst time ever last night. Maybe it's because I am not into heavy metal music or that the music was so loud that I couldn't hear anyone say anything. The crowd in NOT trendy, this place is NOT romantic, there is NO dancing, and I will never ever go back. I would describe this venue as heavy rockers wearing black t-shirts & jeans downing beers in a small crappy looking bar. If you want a dive bar then come here. I was just extremely disappointed when I went last night.
