BAD SERVICE!!!! – I recently visited the San Francisco store and tried on many dresses. I found a dress and really liked it. As I was standing in the mirror seriously considering the dress the employee came to inform me that I needed to hurry up because another bride behind me needed my dressing room. As far as I was concerned, having a "no appointment necessary" boutique meant no limit on how long an "appointment" could take. I let the comment slide and continued to consider the dress on the hanger. I had made it very clear that I also needed a "white white" dress and later noticed it was more on the ivory side. The employees continued to try to convince me it was white and it became very clear they did not care about me and having the dress of my dreams but only about making their sale. My future mother-in-law was with me and was trying to help me with my decision when she was holding another dress next to "mine" to compare colors. An employee came and yelled at her that she needed to not remove the dresses and should put it back immediately. That was my final straw. I left the store and found my dream dress for DOUBLE the price at Bridal Image. They have wonderful service and a very nice showroom.

Great dresses, terrible service – Beautiful, designer dresses, very unfriendly employees that appeared annoyed to have to answer questions and seemingly did not like that I was touching the dresses in order to inspect them. This was the first store I visited just to get an idea of what appealed to me (did not even try anything on, just dropped in on way home from work) and although their bad attitudes could not diffuse my excitement about the experience, I was disappointed to be treated so poorly on what was an important and special day for me. Nevertheless, the dresses were beautiful and prices were good for high quality product, so if on a budget but seeking designer dress, I recommend sucking up the poor service and going anyway.
The Dress of my Dreams! – I found the dress of my dreams at this store! A dress by Anne Barge that I had tried on else where and could not afford at the price of $10,500. I found my same dress at the Glamour Closet for $2,500! 75% off a dress they had got in their shipment 2 days before I visited the store in perfect condition! I could not believe it and I am still in shock that I get to have my fairytale wedding with the perfect gown.
I would recommend getting there when the doors open because they do not make appointments, you sign in and wait for them to call you. While hearing this may seem like a hassle do not let it deter you because the people there are committed to helping you and their selection is unbeatable! I was hours behind on their waiting list when I came in and found my dress, but Hanna managed to help me get in sooner so no else one would buy it before me.
Also I can't stress enough that this is not one of those stores that brags about having dresses that are "UP to" 75% off and then still has outrageous prices. Their dresses really are priced affordably especially for what you're getting (all the top designers!). An added bonus is that their dresses have the original prices along with the discounted ones attached so you know how much you're saving! They are the best kept secrete for wedding gowns hands down!
This should be your first stop... – After driving all the way to San Francisco to find a wedding dress, my first stop was Saks. The sales women treated me very badly. I was surprised at the condescending attitude I received when buying a $12,000 dress. I chose not to spend my money there. Then I went to Neiman Marcus. And although Saks took the cake in rudeness, Neiman Marcus was a close second. They acted like they were doing me a favor by selling me a dress. I left San Francisco with a ruined experience of finding THE wedding dress of my dreams. I found the Glamour closet on my next trip and I was so impressed with the service. No appointment and no wait to try on dresses. The girls seemed happy and eager to help me find the dress of my dreams, and I did (for about half the price too). I would have purchased the dress from the Glamour closet simply because the service was so great; the price was just an added bonus. I bought the Vera Wang tulle ball gown that I had dreamed of and I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking for a designer gown.
Best Bridal shop I went to! – I found my wedding dress as this shop after visiting several other places. The shop itself is very nice and clean and the staff there is absolutely wonderful! The shop is so cute and I love the location as well! The thing I loved about the place is that you can get a designer gown at a very resonable price. My dress is very tailored looking and is a mermaid style I got it for around $900 and normally it costs $1600. The only thing that is hard is that you buy the dress of the hanger so that means the one you find has to be around the size you are! If you do find one that doesn't fit you and you love it there is the option of getting it tailored but that can be risky and pricy. My dress fit like a glove and I don't need any tailoring.
But if you are looking for designer gowns at a resonable price this is the place to go!
Another bad experience with Frances Clare Sewing - Julie Ireland in SF – I AGREE wholeheartedly that using Julie of Francis Clare sewing for altering my wedding dress was a complete disaster! I would NEVER reccommend her to anyone - even my enemies! She was very unprofessional and did not deliver on services and timeframe of delivery that were agreed upon. I can go more into details with anyone who wants them, but I am persuing legal action - that's HOW BAD she was!
nice place – I have NEVER been persued legally for my work, or not meeting a delivery date. This review is written by the same party as "L.C." on another review site. She had a size 12 gown which she did NOT purchase from Glamour Closet, and she was a size 2. When we took in the sides of the gown, the waist came up (naturally!) which meant that the drop waist was not below her hip bones like it was when it was 10 sizes too big for her. She didn't mention it until she had a meltdown in my fitting room, but the placement of the drop waist was THE reason she bought the dress. Had she mentioned it in the beginning, I could have informed her that it was impossible to make the dress fit her the way she wanted. It is true that I was behind schedule, (last fitting one month before the wedding) but after she cried uncontrollably for 25 minutes in my fitting room, I offered to reimburse her for the full cost of her gown, which I did. The young lady who eventually purchased the dress from me was very happy with it.
Love Glamour Closet, hate their seamstress – I found a wonderful dress at Glamour Closet. I loved that you didn't have to make an appointment and that you weren't limited in the number of dresses you could try. The sales people were helpful and unpretentious, and didn't try to sell you something that didn't look right. I have recommended this store to everyone I know.
HOWEVER, the seamstress recommended by Glamour Closet (and the one who comes to the store), Julie of Frances Clare Sewing, was disastrous. She nearly ruined my dress, cutting far too much fabric (an extra inch) when she was shortening the shoulder straps. There was no way to add fabric back in without it looking really cheap so this was a big deal. Taking the straps up too much caused the waist to sit too high as well, which pulled on other seams. Julie's solution to this problem (after telling me that I had wanted it this way) was to cut additional fabirc which would have changed the line of the dress even further. She also charged me for hemming the linings of my dress when all she did was cut the fabric. She didn't put in any kind of hem and the fabric was left fraying and unfinished, and she acted like it was a big deal to actually do the hem I paid for. Even then the bias tape used on the hem wasn't the same all the way around.
I do recommend Glamour Closet, but definitely have your alterantions done elsewhere. Lora Dukler (on West Portal, and well worth the drive) fixed the many mistakes made by Julie, inside a week. This was no small feat as it required express ordering two additional hairpieces, the pearls and crystals of which Lora used to cover the sections of fabirc that had to be added in at the shoulder straps. And yet, Lora still charged less than Julie of Frances Clare.
Great Deals, Sometimes a Long Wait – I went to Glamour Closet in a panic after having a mishap with the dress I ordered at a fancy salon. The dresses at Glamour Closet are high quality, vary in style and price, and are well cared for by the staff. Staff is amazing, especially Tanya, who used to be a costumer, so she can fill you in on alterations possibilities with an educated eye. I really enjoyed my experience there. Be informed, though, on the weekends, there tends to be a long wait. No appointments.
