Some of the best service in town – I've only visited for breakfast, as I'm lucky enough to live just a couple of blocks away, and the menu contains old favorites as well as creative twists, primarily with a Mexican flair.
I live in the same neighborhood as Ann Sather's and Pauline's, which are some darned popular breakfast spots, but given the choice, I'll always pick Over Easy for their service, as it is some of the most cheerful and attentive that I've received in Chicago, and I eat out 5 or 6 times a week.
If you're a vegetarian, you can substitute veggie sausage or try their vegetarian chilaquiles! Perhaps try their corn cakes (contain eggs) with special red pepper sauce or syrup. Give them a try. They are definitely worth it.
Best. Food. Ever. – Over Easy is my new favorite place to eat. I've had a variety of things off their thankfully non-overwhelming menu and it's always been excellent. Especially the banana rum french toast. The space is small and you could end up waiting for a seat. But the service is good and the atmosphere relaxed. It seems a little pricey but I think it's worth the $10-12 a head considering the quality of the food. Try it!
local, great breakfast, small – The food is why you go to this place. Be prepared to wait a while as the dining room is small and doesn't turn over as quickly as larger breakfast venues such as Wishbone. But the food! Also, extremely good coffee brought in from a specialist. Love this place, and I go frequently, even though I hate waiting. You can also get take out and BYOB.
Great Breakfast though a bit pricey – Over Easy is one of my favorite breakfast places. They're menu isn't terribly extensive, but they have good selection of somewhat unique creations. That said, you'll pay for this uniqueness and breakfast for three is about $30 without tip. Get there early, because it does fill up fast, but service is usually pretty good and the chef will occasionally make an appearance to check on patrons.
Great Bfast, Lunch, and Staff! – I actually visited during the lunch hour, so I went with the salad which was great and huge! Breakfast was still being served at 1 pm which is totally awesome, and looked phenomenal! I will definitly be back for some pancakes. The staff was very friendly and attentive, it's not every day you visit a restaurant and have the owner stopping by each table to see how things were. I was very pleased! Definitly reccomend over Bongo room, etc--service much better :)
Ravenswood locals pack this bright, intimate eatery for breakfast and lunch. – The Scene
Young families wake early to score one of the limited seats available at this cheerful, but tiny restaurant in Ravenswood. Blond wood tables for two and four take up most of the one-room, exposed-brick space featuring a long banquette lining the right wall and small juice bar in the back. Acrylic paintings, a few photos, mirrors and kitschy wooden eggs that hang on invisible strings from the ceiling add to the casual mood.
Chef Jon Cignarale cooks up simple, tasty breakfast and lunch dishes with a few twists. Sweet blackberries are spooned generously atop Emily's Dream pancakes with just the right amount of butter, while apple flapjacks are turned upside down and baked for extra thickness. The fluffy, not overly salty Retro omelet--loaded with bits of ham, green onions and Swiss cheese--arrives with a side of pan-fried country potatoes and toast. Lunch favors salads, burgers and sandwiches.
yuppie hell – Take the menus from Bongo Room, Orange and M Henry and steal a few items off each and you have Over Easy. $8.50 for 2 hard pancakes with a couple raspberries in it. Please! I was thoroughly shocked at how bad and tasteless they were. The omelette was very good, however, and the portion was huge. Cute space, nicely decorated, but so incredibly crowded that 2 yuppie fights almost broke out last Sunday as patrons argued over who was in line first, with their KIDS in tow listening to all of this. Cabs arriving non stop with patrons clutching Venti starbucks. Think carefully if you want to spend your money here.
Over Easy is Overdue – It has been a long time coming. In the nearly four years that I've lived in the neighborhood, one of the things we've been missing is a good breakfast place. Not any more. I just got back from Over Easy after weeks of anticipation and my expectations were exceeded. The food is high quality, copious and fresh. The staff is great, too. A friend and I ordered up a few different selections including eggs with red potato hash and their easy french toast. If we weren't in a hurry to get to work, we'd have stuck around for their sure to become famous Banana Spiked French Toast and Tofu Chilaquiles. Looking forward to getting back in on a weekend to spend more time.
