Very disappointnig to all the god things one hears about Junoon – We were a little late and table was cancelled (OK my fault, I should have called).
We had to sit in the patio area and it was cold yesterday (even with the heater..).
The inside of the restaurant seemed to be nice.
Good part was the service, prompt and courtous. Waitresses were friendly and bus boy serving water was quick and prompt.
Food and appetizer portions were very small and disproportionately miniscule compared to the price.
A disappointing experience as far as food goes.
I ordered mango lassi and it felt like pulp straight out of a can one finds at an indian store.
Overall, disappointing experience for a hugury tummies after a long day at work.
Definately not a place for after work get together for some one looking for good food.
Verrry small portions for a verrry steep price!! – If you do wish to dine here then make sure you either grab something on your way in or your way out because the portions are miniature!! We ordered over 4 appetizers and each of us had an entree yet we had to grab something later to fill us up.
Also the cuisine is not your authentic indian cuisine but a fusion of sorts which pretty much leaves everything indian just to your imagination so if you are in for a traditional meal you will be dissapointed. And last but not least the wait for an entree can be horrendous one of ours arrived after we were done with all of our meals.
Go for the scene, not the food – My wife & I tried this place out a week ago after reading all the reviews, etc. We had high expectations. The ambience, service, and scene are all it's cracked up to be. Service was excellent. The food is eclectic. We had the semolina shells for appetizer, and the lamb stew & another forgettable dish. Nothing was bad, nothing was excellent. And I would not order any of the 3 again. We skipped on dessert since it looked like "traditional" American desserts. We're a bit old fashioned and prefer traditional Indian food.
Incredible ambiance paired with delicious food – Junnoon is a true gem on the peninsula. Having been there finally, and having heard all the buzz about it for a while, I can say that it is one of the Bay Area's finest, for Indian food fans, and non alike.
Traditional Indian takes a modern turn with a sleek bar scene and patio dining. – The Scene
While concrete walls, a jeweled-tone decor and 20-somethings in the lounge up the hip quotient, gold-silk fabric adds intimacy--curtaining off the dining area from the view of the street. Servers hover attentively to answer questions about the eclectic menu.
Pappadam i a complimentary starter, and that's pretty much where the traditional dishes end. Cardoz takes Indian upscale, using familiar spices to perk up perfect cuts of meat and seafood. Clove-smoked lamb kebabs have the personality of pate and are, surprisingly, not served on a stick. Rice-flaked sea bass is pan-seared-crispy outside, moist and flaky inside, while every slice in the Delhi-style chicken is more tender than Tikka should be. With six raitas and chutneys plus several flavored breads to choose from, diners can make a pairing perfect for their palates.
Good food, good drinks, good ambience – I really enjoy the food, wine, cocktails, and ambience at Junnoon, though I've been less pleased with the service.
Contemporary & Stylish Indian hangout! – Junnoon- adds a modern and elegant flavor to the entire Indian restaurant scene and has brought sophistication into the arena. We loved the entire setting, including the ambience and definitely the food lived up to the expectation.
The drinks menu had some interesting names and tasted great. The Malabari Shrimps and Chicken Kebabs were very well prepared and everything else that we ordered was a SMASH!
The dishes were a little expensive and a tab including drinks, appetizer, and entrees for two can come up to be a close to $100. However it is a place to be visited, if you are an Indian food lover!
The service was also great. So kudos for this team!
Patio area is really relaxing !!!! – We didnt notice the patio when we first entered, but ended up dining there. Was great. Definitely would recommend the steak.
Try the spiced molten chocolate cake - amazing flavors – Awesome place. Went because a friend of mine highly recommended it and it definitely lived up to expectations amazing food, great drinks, cool ambience. Really enjoyed it. Recommend calling ahead of time since the place is really popular.
Extraordinary food and service – A bit pricey but totally worth it. Ordered the Manic Masala Mary, the crab cake and the Halibut. Really good food. Friendly Service. Going to bring back a group of friends next week
