Mixed review – The first time I went to MaxBar I thought it was fun. There was no cover, the crowd seemed ok, and the music was good. However, the next time I went there it was pretty bad. They were trying to charge a cover at the door and the door guy plus the people inside were all really rude and not much fun at all. Hardly anyone was dancing even though the music was decent, so it was basically a boring and unfriendly atmosphere. I probably would not go back unless it was really late and I was trying to find somewhere to go in Lincoln Park
This is the worst establishment in the Lincoln Park/DePaul Area – Rude Staff, Pretentious Attitude. Bad music. The people who work at this place are horrible human beings.
Horrible service – Never going there again. A man by the name of PJ was extremly rude to us. Don't waste your time or money!
The former Blu space gets a little Crobar-style TLC, toned down for the Lincoln Park palette. – In Short
Gone are the icy blue and chrome finishes of the space's former resident, replaced with warm earth tones, unfinished wood and textured flagstone. Downstairs there's a bar to the left and raised seating to the right. A spacious, bar-equipped dance floor opens up once through the narrow hall connecting the rooms. The upstairs VIP lounge has a small bar, but the focus is on holding court with your entourage at one of several leather banquettes.
A refreshing place in the middle of Lincoln Park – Maxbar seems to be out of place amongst the college-style locales that stretch up and down alongside the DePaul campus. It offers a rather interesting decor of wood and soft lighting in the front with a seperate, more trendy club atmosphere in the rare. The dancefloor isn't the largest, but it works for the crowd. The doormen are quite courteous, which seems to be the norm in that neighboorhood and the bartenders know how to mix. I'd recommend a flight of 3 martinis for $12, although try to do early on. And while they do offer bottle service, most of the tables are simply reserved for parties of four or more.
Good place. Horrible restroom setup. – I would have had a lot better time if it wasn't for the stupidest restroom layout I've ever seen for a nightclub of this size.
The front bar is cool to hang out in and the rear dance area is a good time. The DJs are good and the bar staff is at the top of their game. Good drinks, strong pours and quick service even when busy.
However there are only two unisex bathrooms that are at the front of the rear dance area. Be prepared for long lines and disgusting restrooms with plenty of people cutting in line.
I won't be going back.
