da bomb! – These guys rock, yea the prices went up a little, but the quality is always there and you get a frequent shopper card for free burritos. =)

One of the best burritos in the city – This week, I have started to eat my way through 7x7’s 100 Things to Eat Before You Die 2010. It’s sort of like Julie cooking Julia Child’s recipes, but without the dishes and time required to cook. What’s in it for you, one might ask? Reviews, lots of reviews on Yelp, and other sites…that’s what’s in it for you! Now, let’s get cracka’ lakin.

Drinks – I did not try their aqua fresca, or other drinks, but it looks like they had horchata and tamarindo available, as well as a selection of Jaritos soda pops. This is generally a good sign

Mains – I had a craving for a good, LA-style Chile Verde burrito, and Papalote did not let me down. In fact, they down right surprised me! First, with the refried black beans, and then with the freshness of their ingredients. I mean really, how often have you seen Carne Asada cooked to order for your burrito or Tofu Quesadilla. More than likely, you get meat that has been sitting in a warming pan for a couple hours. This is freshness that you can taste in every single bite you take. The pork in the Chile Verde was tender, moist and delicious. Finally, I found a Chile Verde burrito in San Francisco that can challenge those of Los Angeles and El Metate in the Mission.

Service – This is an Order and Pick-up establishment. Orders are taken quickly, and your food is ready in approximately 5 minutes. Now, that’s darn quick if you consider they are cooking many of the ingredients to order.

Oh, 7x7 mention was for the Chips & Salsa at Papalote. Again, I was surprised, first by the fresh, light chips, and then by delicious red salsa. Thumps way up to 7x7 Magazine for turning me on Papalote. I will be returning here again, and again.

Citysearch Editorial Review – In a city where restaurants tend to segregate themselves by districts—Chinese in the Richmond, Italian in North Beach—Papalote enjoys the luxury of being one of the few Mexican restaurants serving the Panhandle and USF. Often packed with local college kids, this isn't a standard taqueria, though--meat and fish are cooked to order and lots of vegetarian choices like the potato, carrot and mushroom burrito and the Soyriz--tofu fried up chorizo-style--there is something for everyone. The ingredients are all organic, the beans and rice are vegan, but carnivores don't leave disappointed. The triple threat is packed with a hefty amount of shrimp, steak, and chicken (and, at $14.95, a hefty price tag) and the salsa is so popular diners can take it home for $6 a jar.

Editorial Review – Fresh ingredients and plenty of vegetarian options keep a steady stream of regulars coming to this pleasant Mexican cantina.
