Neighborhood beer & food joint. For a place with such a good selection of beer it should come as no surprise that the food is good as well. While their lamb burger is a perennial favorite, I really enjoy their duck carnitas too,

The diverse beer selection will keep you exploring. It's good for groups, with plenty of outdoor seating, and decent grub, too.

Beer list is stellar and the food is great bar food! The rancor burger rocks. Laid back atmosphere. My fave Houston spot!

I am so disappointed to be writing this review. I have been a huge fan of Petrol Station since they opened. I live in the neighborhood and have always enjoyed coming here frequently. Unfortunately, I will not be back after my most recent experience.

My family and I went there, had burgers and beer and we forgot to close out our tab. I went back to pick it up the next day and the surly bartender gave me a receipt with my card. I asked about how I could add the tip on and he said, "oh, we put that on there." Well, it turns out that they put on an excessive 25% tip, which was figured on the total after taxes and after the “rounding adjustment.” When I questioned the 25% tip add on, I was told rudely "that is our policy." (I did not see a sign anywhere stating this policy.) This guy didn't care the slightest that I felt this was wrong.

More importantly is this practice of the "rounding adjustment." They rounded UP my tab to the next dollar. This was only 27 cents, but lets do some math…

Round up 100 customers’ bills @ .25¢ each night = $25

$25 x 6 nights a week = $150 a week = $600 a month

I don't understand how this is all legal? I recall in the news a story about New Jersey bringing suit against Chipotle for doing this practice of rounding up pennies!

A tip is not required payment and it is not up to the discretion of the establishment, nor is it right to change the price of a meal just so the lazy servers don't have to make change. I think this practice is dishonest and bad practice.

Great burgers: try the lamb. Beer selection is also one of the city's best. The patio is huge and the whole place has a neighborhood vibe.

Ouch – The only thing going for this place is IPA's. Service is non-existant unless you know someone. Two hamburgers took 1hour & 10 minutes to arrive and they weren't really busy at at the time. I give it one big yawn.

dissapointed – I have been a semi - regular at this pub for about 6 months now. It has almost all the ingredients for a great neighborhood bar. The food is decent and the beer selection is ample. The bartenders would even remember my name and my tastes in beer sometimes. Unfortunately, this place has one fatal flaw that will prevent me from returning there. The bartenders are intermittently completely indifferent and rude. I notice that they seem to serve patrons in order of "rank", not on a first come first serve basis. I have been passed over for other patrons who arrived at the bar after me multiple times during a single attempt to order. When I try to get a bartender's attention, they seem to be annoyed, or will continue to ignore me! After the third incident I realized this behavior wasn't a fluke. I don't like wondering if I will be treated with common courtesy when I spend my hard- earned money at an establishment. I agree with another poster who calls it an " inner sanctum reserved for the 'boys at the bar' "

I'll be slumming it over at the Catty- Corner a block over where the people are friendly. Who knows, maybe they have wi-fi.

What Houston Pubs Want to Be Like When They Grow Up... – Since discovering Petrol less than a year ago, my boyfriend and I have slowly been trying to ingrain ourselves into the cozy set of regulars. Just this past week, when we were offered a free pint of oatmeal stout just because we, as stout lovers, "had to try it!" I think we accomplished that goal.

Tucked away in the largely residential Independence Heights, Petrol serves as a mecca for local craft brew aficionados. Non-beer enthusiasts are rare amongst the patrons, so great conversation flows with the bartenders and amongst the crowd. The owners, passionate godfathers of Texan micro-brew that they are, do their best to obtain rare casks and tap the finest limited edition brews around. They also bring in the brewers for special events such as their American Craft Brew Week speaker series.

Appetites eagerly awoken by tasty brews will not go unabetted here, where pub classics such as Shepherd's Pie and giant flavorful burgers never fail to satisfy. My favorite is the heavy Rancor Burger, topped with a marvelously runny fried egg.

I've also seen a few brunch menus posted to their chalkboard, something they've started doing every few weekends. I haven't been able to stop thinking of the stout battered Monte Cristo that I saw on the menu.

In short, the only thing I don't love about Petrol Station is that I didn't found and do not own this place.

Great beer, great food! Don't mind the quirks. – I went to the Petrol Station at 4:00 on a Saturday to meet a friend to discuss an upcoming event. Place wasn't crowded at all, and the patrons that were there were very friendly and welcomed conversation.

The beer selection was small, only a few taps on the wall, but what beers they did have were pretty phenomenal, if you are a craft beer lover. Bartender was fairly well informed about the beer, as well.

My friend and I ordered an early dinner, he got their famous Rancor Burger and I got the Hippie Turkey Sandwich. For being a "bar" the food was pretty fantastic! I'd gladly stop in for lunch again any day!

Definitely a great little place. The only cons were the service (only 1 bartender, so no table service... I sat for about 5 minutes before figuring it out. Wish someone would have at least told me so I didn't sit there like a fool!) and the beer tap quantity. It's a great place to try a few beers you may have never had, but not quite the selection I'd like to see at a place that is trying to be beer bar that caters to beer geeks.

All in all, a great place, though! Stop in for a beer and burger... you won't regret it!

Loved it! – I went here w/ friends for the first time last weekend and had a fantastic time! I really enjoyed the casual, laid-back atmosphere, and their great selection of beers. I dislike restaurants/bars where the waiters hover, so I was fine with going inside to get drinks from the very friendly bartender. The outdoor tables are great, the whole place was relaxed and comfortable -- like hanging out in a friend's backyard! Prices are excellent as well. I didn't eat there, but plan to next time I go! If you want a nice place to chill and have fun w/ friends, this is it!

Darn! – A neighborhood venue for a beer outside, decent food, no hassle with parking. If you can overlook the dirty tables, broken chairs and the total indifference of the owner and only employee serving who could care less that you are there. I am from out of town visiting and looked forward to walking over and even brought friends. I felt we needed to apologize for barging into this inner sactum reserved for the "boys at the bar". There is a great opportunity for this model in Garden Oaks. This one is cashing in on being the only venue. If only they had some competition to raise the bar.

Good Food Good Beer – The homemade russian dressing on the reuban is what sent me over the edge. Good for relaxing and chilling out with a few freinds to enjoy a great beer selection and even better food.

All in all its now one of my top ten in Houston.
