Great place, needs more variety – I live in the neighborhood and was very glad when Riposo arrived. The friendly staff made good recommendations and went out of their way to make our experiences there pleasurable.
And the food is tasty. Only complaint is that in the past year, the menu hasn't changed, nor have the wines much; in the past 6 weeks, it seems that the same "daily special" wine has been offered. One would think that a wine bar would have all sorts of new finds to share with the neighborhood, and it's disappointing that they haven't. (Also, the cheese selection is boring -- take a few hints from Casalulla up the street and bring up your game here!) Finally, the staff seem to be getting less and less knowledgeable about wine. Last night, my server could answer no questions about the wines.
Overall, a great place, but in order to keep the regulars happy you need a) more variety, and b) better informed staff.
good wines and flatbreads – First time I went there, I arrieved very early, I had a good spot in the bar later on was a bit crowded. The bartender was very nice. I had one of the flatbreads with mushrooms and it was really really good.
Second time was not that crowded (tuesday night) but the experience was exactly the same.
If you like good wines in a nice neighborhood bar with local people I highly recommend it.
Excellent Brunch – I stumbled upon this place on a Sunday morning and went here for brunch. It's very small, but the brunch is delicious and very affordable. Perfect for a quiet brunch with <4 people.
Favorite spot in the neighborhood – I love this place. The wine list is great - lots of options, with a knowledgeable staff that will help you select the perfect one. The bartenders are always friendly. My favorite is the proscuitto flatbread with a few glasses of pinot noir. The place is tiny though and almost always full. It's not worth going if you can't get a seat at the bar or one of the three tables...sitting on the side ledge is awkward and you feel crammed. But it's a friendly, good crowd, and you can normally get people to shift at the bar to create space. The brunch here is also delicious and really well-priced, but the restaurant never opens on time - so don't go before noon. Highly recommended.
Charming! – My boyfriend and I stumbled on Riposo before heading to a show on a Fri night after work. What a great find, a hidden gem. I've been telling all my friends about this place. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. It is extremely small with only 4 or so high tables, but we were automatically drawn to the bar - it is one of those places where you'd like to go w/ your significant other to just sit at the bar, drink wine, relax, catch up, and enjoy some light, but delicious food. We ordered warm marinated olives to start which came with delicious pieces of garlic baguette pieces, and then an order of crispy asparagus wrapped in procuitto. Then we split a flatbread - procuitto, parmesan, arguala, lightly covered with oil and lemon and garlic, SO delicious. Other people around us were enjoying wine with cheese platters and other flatbreads, etc. Simply put - it is nice lite fair to enjoy some wine and the company you are with, it is all you can ask for when you want a low-key Friday evening right after work. Can't wait to go back!
Wonderful and Unique Wine List; Yummy Food – The entire staff was completely knowledgeable. They would see what you were eating and give their opinion of the perfect wine - but in a friendly way (not arrogant).
Outstanding! – Absolutely Phenomenal! Attention to detail is at the forefront at Riposo. The service is friendly and attentive. The wine list has been tastefully arranged to accomodate everyone from a novice to wine aficionados. The food is exceptional! Especially the brunch. Brunch is a must have! My favorite in the city! Riposo has become my home away from home.
Debauchery with Class in Hell's Kitchen – We just celebrated a birthday here impromptu. There were supposed to be 4 of us, but we grew to 12. This was a scary and daring idea seeing as this place is packed to the gills on almost every night of the week. But the staff here immediately took care of us! They were friendly, fun and helpful with wine suggestions. We tried everything from Pinot Noir to Riesling. Many bottles graced the small but adequate tables. I felt like I was at a Roman wine festival. This place truly takes wine seriously and had a great selection for us "foodie/wine" types. We were impressed with the staff and their efficient clearing of empty glasses.
The food was a perfect pairing! The mushroom bruschetta and artisan cheese plates were popular with our group and great with all the different wines. Cabernet soaked figs and all!
The chocolate cake was hot, rich, and melted in your mouth.
I predict growing pains for this place. It seems like there is so much demand and not enough space. The bar and side tables turned all night around us.
I will definitely return to this bar. I hear they have a fantastic brunch. I have lived in this neighborhood for 10 years and welcome this little gem to the 9th avenue foodie strip. A short and blissful walk home after a great night of self-indulgence.
Great Place – I went here the other night with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed it. Nice little wine bar with a great selection of wines and the food was sooo good. I was surprised how much was even on the menu! And she loved the cheese selection. We are definitely going to come back to check out the brunch.
Terrible service – My friend and I went here last night for an after work drink. When we tried to order our second round, there was no one behind the bar for a good 10 minutes. The waitress was chatting with some regulars and ignored me until she finally felt like going behind the bar to take my order. During our third round, it started to get a little crowded. The second I finished my glass of wine, she swooped in and took our glasses away and told us that it was getting busy and other people needed our seats since we were done drinking. So basically, after buying three rounds, tipping generously, she basically told us to get out the second we stopped drinking. I will never go back there.
