Great, Reasonably Priced Brunch – I really love this place! I've been here twice, once last summer and again a couple of weeks ago. Great, open backyard garden with really wonderful food and you can't beat the price of $11 complete with your choice of Mimosa or Bloody Mary. I've read about flies being a problem but I didn't see any either time I was there. We were there maybe around 3:00 and there were very few people there, so we were really able to relax and enjoy ourselves. When you first walk in, you're not expecting such a nice surprise out the back door. Quiet and pretty with just enough shade to know your outside but not be in the heat of the sun. Our service was great and our waiter was a doll! Will definitely come back!
Bad service / average food/ nice garden – I was here yesterday for brunch- the garden was pretty if you don't mind the little flies, the ambience was nice. The food was average- nothing out of this world- the pancakes were not so soft- the omlettes were so so. The prices are good for a basic brunch- $10. They have mimosas and bloodymarys free with the breakfast deal. The biggest disappointment were the waiter and the 'trying to be cute' waiteress- They looked like they were not yet awake even at 1.30pm and kept forgetting things and made us wait forever. I did hear dinner here is a better experience - i guess the waiters wake up by then ! not a bad experience but not great either.
Rudest Expeience I've ever had ANYWHERE – This is an awful unprofessional establishment. We were offered a supposed "smoking section" table, GIVEN an ashtray. Two hours into a very very pleasant evening with one of my nearest & dearest friends we were told that we were not allowed to smoke. When we asked the waiter that seated us why he had given us the table if this was not a smoking area he said that the "rules" change when the place starts to fill up. My friend calmly upon leaving tells the manager how rude the whole situation was he physically pushed her and said "bye bye". This was hands down the rudest thing I have ever seen. To physically push a patron that has caused no problems is actually ILLEGAL. This is an awful establishment and I sincerely do not think they should stay open. Please avoid this place at all costs.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.... DONT PUT YOUR NIGHT IN JEOPARDY – The spot is hard to resist in the summer as Imagine cafe offers the option of dining outside. However, the vibe destroys any possibility of enjoying yourself. The owner is tyrannical and clearly suffers from a napoleonic complex. The waitstaff is anxious and nervous as he monitors their every move and is quick to criticize every action. This is lame to hear when you just want to relax and enjoy a meal. As a customer I was yelled at by the owner once for putting my purse in a chair (the ground is wet from plant watering and covered with ants and mosquito breeding pools) and then later for smoking at the table I was told was in the smoking section. They even provided the ashtray. Later when I confronted the owner, by himself outside of the view of most of the other customers, he physically pushed me out of his restaurant. It was a very sad night and it explains why they were under staffed and the service was below par. When I told others of my incident, they too agreed they had been lured into the backyard setting only to have an off the wall experiences. A furry creature scurried across to the chair storage area and my friend was chastised for screaming... she was told by the owner to get a grip as this is New York. RUDE RUDE RUDE. There are so many other delightful places that offer the option of dining outside....I simply can't IMAGINE why anyone would risk having a similar experience. Absolutely not worth it!
Really nice people, great drinks and tastey food too. – This place was warm and cozy. My boyfriend and I had a great romantic dinner. We will go again and again.
Great food--really affordable and friendly service – Really delicious food. Love the wild mushroom quesadilla.
Try the different lemonades as well (strawberry/mango/etc.).
Cozy Southwestern spot in the East Village's former Miracle Grill space. – In Short
The former Miracle Grill, notable as the restaurant where Bobby Flay got his start, has been revamped into this new restaurant. At first glance, not much has changed beyond the black awning out front: The cozy brick interior warm lighting, and spacious, plant-filled back garden remain, as does the menu's Southwestern bent represented by small plates of tacos and quesadillas. Entrees skew slightly more continental, offering Southern-inflected takes on pasta, fish, chicken, steak and ribs.
plaesant surprise – But after spending most of May inside I decided to give Imagine a try.
The menu is very similar and the chef was the same so the food was equally as good as Miracles. The service was exceptional though. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. I was told that the owners are on hand at all times and I met one on the way out and was asked how everything was and thanked for coming in.
They have a good drink menu and I had passion fruit margaritas that were wonderful. All in all a great time was had by every one in my party.
Amazing HUGE Garden, Really nice people – It was a beautiful night and I think it's one of the best restaurant gardens I've been to in the whole city. My mom was in town and the waiter was so personable that my mom said she didn't realize there were such nice people in the East Village. It was perfect. I had this great pork chop. Huge and delicious. And we shared some scallops for an appetizer that were amazing. Really. Get the scallops.
Great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff – Just try this delightful restaurant and you will often go back. The chef is great and the food sells itself. The duck is exquisite but everything on the menu is so good that you will be happy with any choice. Ive personally tried almost everything on the menu and been amazed at the quality and presentation. Add to that the pleasant helpful staff and reasonable prices and you wont be disappointed.
Did I mention the beautiful garden!
