Great Food and Service – This place is great. Everything on the menu that I've tried has been excellent (simple ,clean & fresh). Especially the homeade pastas. The service is good too, friendly, knowledgable and professional. Also, the French Toast served at brunch is some of the best I've had anywhere. I'll be back over and over again.
good service but used spoiled food – i've eaten here a few times and most of the time it's pretty good. unfortunately, i ordered a dish for sunday brunch which was not a typical sunday brunch item. i shared it with others. the dish was unusually seasoned and my group of friends (four) got sick from it. my advice is if you eat there, pick something that has high turn-over for less risk of spoilage. i wish they wouldn't keep bad food and hide it with seasoning. except for this one-time bad experience, it's a decent place.
small but ok... – I met my friend here for dinner one night. I had the sausage with sweet peppers, which were okay. I found the dessert interesting: red wine plum with marscapone; the wine selection was decent. Overall: there isn't anything extrodinary, but it was fine.
Refreshing, charming and tasty. – The LES branch from Broolklyn, this is great place to drop in for any reason (I took my mom). This place serves the one-two combo of simple but extremely well-executed dishes and decent & affordable wine. My inner-oenephile was amazed to find a place as inexpensive as this serving reds chilled in a fridge. The attention doesn't stop at the wine and goes far into the menu with their spuntino (snacks in italian).... with extra, extra virgin olive oils and fresh ingredients. I started w/a apple/gorgonzola watercress salad, but I'm definitely stealing the idea of my mom's salad for my next soiree: fig puree/pecorino romano on watercress. We both had the pasta special (tagliatelle), and a top-notch lentil soup...all very well made. The red brick, tin-ceilings and dark wood talbes are perfectly cozy for a date, but quarters are a little tight, so go early.... I found the service efficient, pleasant, and attentive. I can easily see why these guys got nominated for best new restaurant.
The Italian sputino hops the Brooklyn Bridge and brings its charm to the Lower East Side. – The Scene
What owners Frank Castronovo and Falcinelli started in a Carroll Gardens storefront, they've copied in this tiny Lower East Side space. The interior's simplicity--old-time tile floors and exposed brick walls--are part of a charm in which wine, food and atmosphere coalesce into a pleasantly intoxicating dining experience. Who's caught the vibe? Nibblers sharing knee space with older gourmands and downtown neighborhood hoppers looking to escape the scenier parts of the 'hood.
Move beyond the simplistic sandwiches and too-crusty crostini to the restaurant's signature slow-cooked homestyle dishes. Meatballs in a sweet, fresh tomato sauce; pork bracciola, naked so as to enhance its essence; and homemade gnocchi--none of it amazes, but combined with a well-priced bottle of wine, it pleases in a way that the bigger, flashier restaurants can't. Pair a side of roasted veggies or salad greens in a light vinaigrette, and then finish with a liqueur-soaked tiramasu for maximum satisfaction.
Thanks! – I have been to Frankies 457 in Brooklyn at least 5 times for dinner and have always had an amazing meal. I couldn't wait to be able to walk to Frankies 17 to get my italian food fix. Thanks for opening another one nearby! I agree...the gnocchi is delicious and the cavatelli is even better! This is the place to go for real italian food.
Great food – tight quarters - but great food! try the gnocchi - fantastic!
