Very Uneven Quality – I've received massages for twenty years, of all different modalities, so I know quality. I've had a couple of good massages here, but have decided not to return because most of them have lacked the basic elements you expect in a professional massage: communication (about pressure and other things), addressing your stated presenting issues, delivering the advertised modality, managing time and balance between sides, etc. It feels like Massage Harmony doesn't have a high or consistent bar in hiring therapists. There's nothing worse than looking forward to an effective, relaxing massage and getting mediocrity. For me, this increases my stress rather than relieving it. I wish they had a way to screen the bios of the therapists and other clients' reviews before choosing one.
A Great Healing Experience – I experienced my first massage at Massage Harmony last week and was very happy with my experience. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called, which is important when you have a hectic schedule. The facility was clean and modern with an emphasis on warm earth tones. I was greeted promptly by the receptionist who spoke to me in hushed tones and helped me complete the paperwork. The entire atmosphere was calm and almost serene.
My masseuse, Natalie ,was pleasant and skillfully provided an hour and a half massage session which began gently and gradually worked deeper in to the stubborn knots that had brought me to her door. I was so pleased I pre-paid for a package of massages on my way out. Best of all, the prices are VERY reasonable at $64 for a 90 minute massage!
I will say that some of prior reviews of the business worried me, but I'm glad I gave them and chance and made up my own mind.
Downhill – It seems as though Massage Harmony got off to a great start and fell fast. During a recent visit I made there I witnessed incompetent therapists and owner. The owner was yelling at employees it was ridiculous. With all due respect to the apparent success of his business, it would seem he could use some serious help in managing people. It is never acceptable to conduct yourself like that. While Massage Harmony may have some great attributes, it has a lot to work on.
I would agree with previous posts that on average the therapist are somewhat mediocre and the entire organization could use higher standards in everything they do.
I will not be visiting them again.
Decent product for what you pay but customer service is poor – I purchased a gift certificate for my girlfriend and she was not very happy with the place (She is used to higher end places) and that (now) is to be expected. What you get is what you pay for but the customer service and response of management is poor if not downright unacceptable. I left messages with no return call. I spoke with several people who did not call me back when they said they would. I got tossed around by the owner when all I wanted was a refund on the remainder of the gift certificate and his story changed over and over to keep from giving money back. In their defense, they are a low-end volume type of massage place (like a chain haircut joint) and if you know that going in, they do a good job according to others I know.
Nancy gave me the best 90 minute vacation in my life – I'm not a fan of massage business's because I believed only the newest-least experienced therapists worked at them. I have been getting massages for years and when a close friend recommended Nancy at Massage Harmony I called and scheduled. I went on a Sun Night and had an hour massage and was in stress-denial mode by the end of the massage when she covered my eyes with her hands and said thank you for coming in. I spent the next 4-5 days in pain free from a chronic condition with my legs. I scheduled last Sunday a 90 min massage last week and was limp, pain and stress free when I left. Don't believe "No pain no gain". Nancy's massage was luxurious and therapeutic at the same time. I cannot believe an MT of Nancy's caliber is working anywhere but a spa. I'm not a fan of the suggested tipping system at MH but for me it works well because I feel wonderful tipping a lady that obviously cares about her clients and was able to gently but therapeuticly relax my muscles and end my pain. I love the time during the massage but the relief the week after is priceless.
Great Price for a Great Massage – I am a student here in Austin, and lately I have been under a lot of stress due to the "end of semester rush". A friend told me about Massage Harmony, and I was very excited to hear that I could actually afford to get a massage to help me relax and de-stress before all of my finals. I called and made an appointment right away, and the receptionist helped me find the right therapist to best suit my needs. The massage I recieved was wonderful, my therapist asked me a lot of questions prior to the massage, and it felt like she knew exactly what I wanted and needed her to do. Even with a generous tip (which my therapist certainly deserved), I can still afford to return regularly. I highly reccommend Massage Harmony to anyone who wants to relax without having to worry about spending a fortune.
The Wal-Mart of massage – I get regular massage for low back pain. I wanted to try Massage Harmony because of their convienence and location near my house. I cleared an afternoon and went with a friend of mine to take advantage of their introduction special. Needless to say, the experiences that we had were very poor at best. We both wanted some very specific work and asked for deep tissue. We didn't recieve deep tissue. Both therapists and the staff responded like our request was no problem, but hard pressure does not equal deep tissue. My therapist did some stretches with me to help with my problem, but she did not satisfy any deeper layers of tissue. My friend told me that she felt worse after her massage than she did before she went in.
I called again recently to try and see who on their staff was available to do deep tissue work. I was told that only one person was available and she was booked up. I know that there must be good therapists that work at Massage Harmony but I don't want to spend a lot of money trying different therapists to find out.
Convienence and Affordability, yes. If you're willing to settle. Knowledgable and Skilled therapists, no. You're best to look elsewhere. I will spend 70$ for my health and go to real professional.
Low Price, Low Quality – The price was low and I got what I paid for, but nothing more. I would be willing to pay more for a better massage and more attentive customer service. The atmosphere was nice, but I came there for a great massage not a great waiting room.
Treat your therapist as you would like to be treated – This is a great place to get a professional, reasonably priced massage. I have met two of the best therapist at this establishment and have always been treated with courtesy and respect. Based on what I have read in the office tipping is encouraged but certainly "not required." Like anything else if you are satisfied with your service you should tip generously. Tell the therapist what you want and I am sure you will not be disappointed. Show up on time, be courteous and respectful and you will be accorded the same treatment. A massage is a very personal experience and if you do not communicate with the therapist you have no room to arbitrarily complain because your "needs" were not met. Lets see can they read your mind?
I have a lot of trouble with my lower back and my quality of life has been improved because I found this establishment. Should I tell you the therapist name...nope as I want to keep her a secret.
Jamie at Massage Harmony is a great massage therapist. Ask for her – Folks, over the last 10 years, I've experienced more than a dozen massage therapists and I must say that Jamie at Massage Harmony does an outstanding job. I'm a life-long swimmer and runner (and do construction work all day as well) and for the last three months, she's given me excellent massages to help with a variety of aches and pains. She gives better massages than others who charge double the rates that Massage Harmony charges. I highly recommend her services, especially if you are an athlete or need some deep tissue work. Delightful!
