Wow!!!!!!!!! – I have recently moved here from KC. I have been wrecking my brain on finding a place that has live music and a restaurant setting to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was told by a coworker about On the Bayou, they also mentioned that they had not been in awhile. After reading these reviews, I was very disappointed and would definitely not want to have my husband's party there. It is really a shame that Houston is so big and I am having such a hard time finding the right spot for my husband. Grooves is way too high and I don't like the fact that there is a 2 hour dining limit and then you have to get up. What kind of mess is that?
35th B-Day Celebration – I have read all the reviews from the patrons to the owners... All I have to say is that I will be celebrating my 35th Birthday day there on 8/22/08. Hopefully I will have a great time at The Happy Hour and the food will be excellent. I will post my review on Saturday... Because if this turns out to be another Grooves. Which I would recommend to no one unless you just want to be trendy and wanna hang out just because and not for the quality of the food or service... But, I will be giving On the Bayou a chance on Friday myself and my Party ..
A message from the owners of On The Bayou. – For a long time now, we have read these unmoderated bloggs with a mixture of emotions. We're happy when we see good reviews, and understandably concerned when we see negative ones. However, we feel compelled to respond to the blatently false reviews written by some.
First, to anyone who has never been to On The Bayou, I extend my invitation to try our restaurant. Come in on a friday for happy hour, have a drink and an appetizer, listen to the smooth jazz band and make your own decision. If you don't like it - it's free. Our food is prepared fresh, daily. Our staff is friendly and they aim to please. We know you'll enjoy the ambience.
To the guests who have had a less than pleasant experience, we offer our apology and ask that you be understanding. We try hard, but sometimes fall short. We ask that you give us another chance.
To the people who posted the false reviews: you actually inspire us to work even harder. because we know there will always be people who are bitter and impossible to please. We will continue to provide the good people of Houston with a great place to eat, drink, and enjoy the best in live entertainment.
Worst Jazz Club Ever! – I was there on 8/8/08 for a graduation celebration. The service was HORRIBLE! The bar tender made a runm and coke without the rum, we had to use napkins to fan becuase it was so hot, the hard dry buffalo wings were cold and drowned in hot sauce laying on top of old withered lettuce; and the valet guy look like he should have had a curfew and was too young to drive. I can't believe they are in business to serve people. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. That one star that you see is a negative star. Giving this place a one star is extremely too high of a rating. I see why the graduation group was the only people there. They need to shut it down until they go under new management. This was my first and last time there!!!!!!!!
Never ever ever again!! – This is the worst of the worse u couldn't ask for worse!!!!!!!!! We visted for the first time on Saturday to celebrate a friends b-day (8-2-08) putting the date in because it's a evening of dining out I won't foget and wouldn't recommend this GARBAGE restaurant and inexperienced business to no one not even an enemy!!!!!!! First of all u have to pay to park and valet ur own car and then they want to charge u to get in restaurant or club? It was hot and too dark , waiter wit no social skills, sodas r flat,took forever to get a drink and the food was Horrible!! and COLD!! took over an hour and our party got into it wit the waiter almost a fight !! The lady wit the dreads was incompetent!! and the owner did nothing to solve any matters mind u the lady wit the dreads is his wife!! One chef , two waiters on a Saturday night poor management skills and we were trying to support our BLACK OWN BUSINESS! I give them to September they will be out of business I hate to rate them wit a star because they don't deserve it > THEY DESERVE A BIG FAT ZERO AND WHO GAVE THEM A PERMIT TO RUN A BUSINESS!!!! Never will visit again bad experience and i'm honestly telling the truth don't waste ur time believe these reviews on this horrible restaurant or club cause they charge and the overall service is poor!
eh...nothing special – My sister threw my 88-year old grandmother a birthday party there. I honestly don't know why she chose this location. The decor was nice, but a little dark. I was very, VERY difficult to find parking. The DJ was GARBAGE, the music kept stopping. The food was adequate, but I later found out my sister paid $200 for the food and it wasn't that much. I arrived about an hour after everyone else, thinking I was going to miss the food. Only to find out the food had JUST COME! I can't believe they waited an HOUR. I would have left. We got the chicken and red beans and rice. I was a little less then 10 of us there, and we each only got like 2 pieces and the pieces were DRY. I did however like the fact that they had a nice sized dance floor, because I LOVE to dance. Other then that.....EH.
hmmmm.... – I've been to the Bayou 3 times. I was disappointed when i first went, as there weren't many people there. But the band was good. I've never experienced poor service the times I have been there. The food at this restaurant is really good. I've never tasted food like that before. If you don't like the service there, I suggest place an order to go. I think that everyone should experience a dish from the Bayou.
Very hard to believe anyone ever returns here. – IWe find it difficult to believe that any person would actually return to this restaurant after suffering through a first visit, so we are inclined to agree with the person who suggested that good reviews were written by those with some stake (financial or emotional) here. It is interesting to note that persons who wrote the "rave" reviews have never posted a second "rave" review, indicating a return visit. Hmm! When we visited a week or so ago, we were left waiting to be seated for nearly 15 minutes, although only a few tables were in use. (We were told they were reserved, but in the 45 minutes or so we were there, no one appeared). The drinks we ordered were watery and tasteless, the service was amateurish and disinterested, and the general ambience (for all the apparent atmosphere) was depressing. It was as though no one was actually sure who was in charge. When we had had our drinks for a half hour and no one had shown any further interest in us, we simply left. We, as a rule, decline to take "online reviews" at face value; we prefer to see for ourselves. Online reviews may sometimes reflect more about the personality, general state of mind, or attitude and over-expectation of a writer. In this case, though, the only online reviews that are suspect to us are those startling "rave" reviews. We will never return to subject ourselves to such treatment again, nor we recommend that anyone else subject themselves to the "On the Bayou experience."
Worst Place Ever. Needs to Close!!! – Honestly, On the Bayou Jazz Supper Club does not deserve a rating. After reading the negative reviews I still decided to come to check out the place with a crew of people to help me celebrate my birthday and everyone that attended was not pleased . This place is an embarassement and is in need help. This place does not have any experience at all and the licenses for On the Bayou Jazz Supper Club should be taking away. The following below is a list of everything that went wrong: Reserved tables not ready at time reservation was set(had to wait 30 mins for this), drinks and food took 45 mins to over an hour to arrive if at all, (2 members of the party didn't get their food at all. Were told the order wasn't put in), bills were incorrect, orders mixed up, I was being bought drinks from my friends since it was my birthday and at the end of the night I was given the bill after most of these people left. Band was to play until 9:00 then DJ the rest of the night. DJ never showed up. Music kept stopping. When placing orders it took the wait staff 20-30 mins to check on us. The place was not that crowded we should have seen the servers more often.
Shut it down! Please Shut it down! This place deserves no STARS. The good reviews most likely are from the business trying to make themselves look good. "Don't believe the haters" line used several times for good reviews.
THE WORST PLACE EVER! – Like other users on here, I too had a crappy experience at this unorganized, poorly managed establishment...and that's an understatement. My fiance and I paid $15 to get in the door, since supposedly it's only free on Friday nights before 9pm. So I'm confused...are you a restaurant....or a club?? Hmmm......so anyway, when we first got there, we met up with some friends who were outside on the patio, and decided to go in and find a table. NO ONE would seat us. So we sat ourselves. Wait, it gets better. After we sat down, even though the place was empty...and it was obvious we had just sat down with no menus...no waiters bothered to come to our table. Instead they just walked past us like we weren't even there. So we flagged someone down, a weird-looking gentleman with horrible manners...who supposedly went to get our waiter but still we saw no one. After 30 MINUTES, and several complaints, someone finally came to our table. We inquired about a text message saying there were $0.75 drinks. She said, "I don't know anything about that, but if you go to the bar and show him the text, we will honor it." THEN WHY EVEN SEND IT OUT!!!!!!!! Poor marketing, and poor management. We finally placed an order, and sat there for over an hour and a half waiting on food that NEVER came. We even had someone else who came much later than we did at our table, place an order and receive his food. So needless to say, I was very upset. Demanded to speak to a manager, and some guy walks up to the table, does not introduce himself, and then just simply states, "I'll take care of it." Completely incompetent person...he offered no remedy for our situation, was completely unprofessional for starters. And to make matters worse...we never got our food. We ended up leaving the drinks on the table and walking out with no remorse. So we went to Pappadeaux's where they know how to treat their customers. This place should be abandoned and never allowed to open again.
