The Coyote on Alki is Hurtin' – Bad food! Don't go there until you hear that they have made a major change for the better. Why someone would be in such a location with such an opportuntiy for success and not be able to deliver on even basic Mexican food quality is beyond me. Apparently after being in business now for over a year and getting a number of bad reviews that essentially say the same thing over and over about food quality, they can't seem to get the message and make changes. I love Mexican food and I feel like I can easily deal with a lot of variation but this place hits the outer limits. Family owned and apparently someone in the family thinks they have cook's meow in new wave Mexican food. Wrong! Even if you could handle the taste, the lack of trim and care in preparation is enough to turn me away. This place needs a new set of recipes, chef, food manager or something. Lacking some changes in food quality, it is not worth a visit.
An optimist disappointed :( – I love most restaurants and was excited to see a new Mexican place on Alki. Unfortunately, after 3 visits, I won't be returning. I expect a bad night every once in a while, but Coyote's is a a big disappointment. Every time I have visited the service has been poor. Two out of my three visits I was overcharged. Also, I have tried several dishes and they are soggy and greasy. My friend teased that we actually got soft tacos, not hard. On my most recent visit there were only about 4 tables of people during a peak hour on a sunny day...if that's not the sign of a poor restaurant on Alki I don't know what is.
Rude service, Low quality food, Great View...... – First off, our server scolded us for seating ourselves on the patio after waiting to be seated for 7 minutes with no one helping us (no wait or line, just us standing in front of hostess stand being ignored by our eventual server while she gossiped in the bar.).
Our waitress nearly made us leave. After that we gave her our drink order 3 different times and she still forgot it. We ordered beans for a starter with our chips and that took 10 minutes. We got about 7 bites before our food came.
We split the Prawn Fajitas for $12.ish.... The prawns were flavorless and low quality tiny bay shrimp. The onions & peppers were over cooked in oil ad sloppy. The teaspoon side of guacamole lasted for 1 tortilla. O ya...... only 4 tortillas come with the order. (Tortillas were raw and cold.) Our meal was poor by every standard.
The Mojitos were lackluster & weak.
It seemed the hostess was doing the job of 4 people and was the only person running around.
The view and patio seating was excellent. Great location (parking on a sunny night is hell!)
If you want an Alki view to eat, try anything else. If you want an upscale Mexican place in W. Seattle try the Matador. They succeed on what Coyote tries but fails.
I will not eat there again nor recommend it!
A Definite A+ An Orchestra for the Senses! – WOW! What awesome food! Ate outside where the weather was perfect and the ocean view was icing on the cake of excellent service and a thrill for the taste buds! Best Sangria I have EVER had, salsa was wonderfully flavorful and fresh, calamari appetizer was very tasty, and the salmon and avocado wrap was amazing! Very friendly staff~ I will defninitely be back! Already recommending visitors to the area to go !
Mexican goulash – Awful, went there for take out on a Saturday night. The meals were crammed into one Styrofoam container each. It ended up being a goulash of, beans, rice and what appeared to be the taco i ordered. The whole mess looked deplorable. Called the manager, he was apologetic, but didn't offer to do anything about it.
Not Good. – Other than the friendly staff who served us, our experience at Coyotes this afternoon was nothing less than a nightmare. The interior was grimy (crumbs on the ledge of the booth where we sat, smeary bannisters...), the flavor of the items sampled ranged from the merely tasteless (black beans) to the unpleasantly tepid (tortilla soup) to the shockingly vomitous (catfish-flavored shrimp wrapped in rubbery bacon). A trip to the ladies room involved what I will only describle as short dark hairs resting in the sink. This place needs to start over again, first cleaning the establishment then hiring people who actally know how to select fresh ingredients and prepare them in an appetizing manner. The view is lovely, but if you are looking for good food, do yourself a favor and head elsewhere. Never go here. Ever. Ever!
Coyote Ugly.... – Was seated very promptly right next to the door! Asked to be moved to anyother of the many empty tables. Chips were stale and cold. Order came to the table wrong food. Bill was charged wrong. Food, just not all that. The wait staff though was very friendly....but won't get my business again.
Who would have thought going out to dinner was like watching a bad baseball game.... – So my fiance & I decided to try someplace new for my birthday since we had a coupon for a free appetizer, boy did we regret our decision. We were thrilled to see the drink menu as both of us had a hankering for a good drink. My fiance ordered the Mango Margarita which was a wise choice, but I ordered something called the Nanajarita which sounded good cause it was rum, pineapple juice with a gingerale splash.
Strike 1-The rum drink they delivered tasted like dish water, nothing like I expected. Instead of pineapple juice it tasted watered down and more like seltzer water then ginger ale. We asked the waitress to bring us a 2nd mango margarita and credited us for the drink I didnt like.
Strike 2-The salsa was sweet when we were expecting spicy & salty, the chips were stale as if they had been sitting all day.
Strike 3-I decided to treat myself by ordering the Yucatan Rib Eye Steak, waitress comes over and says oh sorry bad news we are out of that, so I ordered the New York Steak instead. She comes back a few minutes later saying that they own Bamboo Bar and Grill down the street and that the steak had been delivered to them by mistake. She said the cook would run over there and get one, but between the travel time and cooking process it took forever to get our food.
Strike 4-As I said we had a coupon for a free appetizer with the purchase of 2 drinks, but we ordered the chicken quesadillas which were greasy as heck but it tied us over till dinner which took forever.
Strike 5-The music in the place was way to loud. The speaker above our table sounded like it was right in our ears. Who wants to hear loud music as if you are in a club when you are trying to enjoy a nice meal, we finally got the bartender to turn it down but it still was too loud. The bathroom door even slams when people come in and out of them, how annoying.
Strike 6-The waitress brought us our check but then dissapeared. We didnt tip well & wont return ever.
You've got to be kidding...` – This place is terrible. First of all, the staff are grossly under-trained in how to work tables let alone wait on dining customers. One wait staff will serve a table behind or next to you, then walk right by another without even acknowledging the customer. Three different people waited on us, thus leaving exactly what we ordered up to us to complete correctly with the new person; whats that all about?! The drinks are good. But, who can't pour a beer?! The food is altogether a joke, even my stomach is still mad at me for eating there. They pass off small, frozen shrimp as scampi (really now!) and the meal was lukewarm (at best) when it arrived to our table. It's not real Mexican nor Southwestern food, but some kind a moderate rendition of both. I highly recommend that management & ownership take a close, hard look at their operation, because the newly opened Cactus two blocks away will put you guys under unless you improve both staff, service & recipes. You may want to invest in a trip to a Mexican cooking school for some much needed cuisine development and restaurant management training. All I can say is, we won't be back...and good luck; you're going to need it.
Outstanding Food and View – Newly opened on Alki and well worth going to. Three flirty girls went for a girltime date on the beach and were very satisfied. The service was friendly and great, the food was in extra large portions and very well prepared. Chicken fajitas, Chicken Enchilada and Beef Burrito were all three thumbs up. Coyotes have extra tasty mult-colored chips they serve the table. This is a great find restaurant when you're in the mood for Mexican fare and super ambiance. Outside dining on a hot summer day enjoying the boats go by is the bonus.
