Awesome food, superb service, warm feeling – 1st time there, was really just looking for a place that was close to my apartment and stumbled on this gem in city search. The food was great, the service impeccable, decor is cute, the place is small so it might get tight during busy times but we were there with the restaurant at half capacity and it was just a great experience. Highly recommend this place if you love sushi and at a reasonable price.
Favorite Sushi Place in NYC – This place is the most authentic, best REAL sushi place in the Upper East Side and considering the price, possibly the entire city. It is usually not busy either which is a big plus. It is so good that my fiance and I eat here about once a week.
Don't expect a lot of American-style sushi with huge servings of California rolls or spicy tuna. Although these items are on the menu, the best way to experience Inase is by letting the chef select the freshest fish for you with omakase ($60, $80 or $100 which includes a 7-course meal), or just by ordering the sushi special plates ($20, $27 or $35). You will leave full of the freshest fish shipped in from around the world, some of which you may not have ever had before. The chef and his wife (who is the hostess / waitress) are super friendly and personable. We are often treated with a specially-prepared kitchen appetizer and sometimes even extra sushi!
Japanese diners are usually found at the sushi bar and the owners / employees are really Japanese (not Chinese or Korean which is the case at many lower-priced sushi restaurants in NYC). You might have a better dining experience at Nobu or Gari, but at half the price it is worth giving up some of the ambiance. Sit at the sushi bar and you feel like you're in Tokyo!
Good price! Good Sushi!! – Good price! Good Suchi!
Fresh fish! and Great Japanese Tapas(appetizer)!
Though on the pricey side, the quality of the fish does worth you pay for.
You should try SAKE with Sushi too!!!! Love it love it!
Truly authentic sushi – After living in Japan for four years, I was psyched to find a truly genuine japanese run sushi place right in my neighborhood. Wami-san is the "master" of this restaurant and is usually making the sushi while his wife waits on customers. The sushi is a excellent, the service is welcoming, and the prices are reasonable for sushi of this outstanding quality. Enjoy!
Let's keep this a secret... – I'm a recent Inase converter from Poke. Poke is still great but it's getting way too packed. So Inase comes as a nice alternative. Their sushi select is large, and very authentic. Which means, don't just order only tuna, and do expect to try something new. Appertizer options are quite unique, something kinda hard to find even on UES. Owners are both working the tables & behind the counter, so you can strike up a nice conversation & ask them what's fresh of the day. (They flown in their fish from Japan). You know this is THE place when you walk in and and see only Japanese families. There is no loud crowd, only groups who truly enjoy real Japanese seafood.
Editorial Review – Authentic sushi spot delivers its delicate rolls, sashimi, tempura and teriyaki dishes for free.
This is 'it'!! – Oh, my. Ever since my hubby and I found this authentic Sushi place, we never have a secound thought. As a Japanese couple living in this neighborhood for years, it is really a matter of survival whether we could find a truly great Japanese place nearby. Of course, UES provides a couple of other great Japanese restaurants that appeal to many Japanese, BUT what's so great about Inase is its quality. Sushi is just amazing. I love its presentation, quality fish, sushi rice. I am also amazed by the work of kitchen chef!! Don't miss 'dessert'!! You will know what I am talking about.. Enjoy!!
Authentic sushi made by quiet professionals – I highly recommend Chirashi sushi, deep fried fluke, and Ebi Shinjo. They also have specials.
They can host a large group. Very friendly waitress, and excellent service.
If you see bunch of Japanese old (rich) people eating, that's good sign that the food is GOOD!
A gem on the upper east – My friends and I had a wonderful meal there.
The sushi was very fresh, and they also had a lot of seasonal cooked items.
They have a good variety of fish, and they also have some unique rolls you
can find in japan but not so much here.
The wait staff was very friendly, and that made our food experience even better.
Excellent Sushi – I've been to Inase now twice and I love it! The sushi is so good and that's what keeps me going back. I love the salmon, tuna, shrimp tempura rolls and the fluke. Last time I was there the chef made me a special dessert called "yokan" (red bean cake with strawberry sauce on top) and it was delicious. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Inase to you if you love Japanese food. Enjoy!
