Yummm – My boyfriend took me here for breakfast one weekend and since we have been going about every other weekend since. The food is so tasty, and they don't skimp out on anything. I don't know her name but she is blonde and is usually working when we go on the weekends, she is an awesome server, very sociable and friendly.
Friendly neighborhood place with great food, great prices! – If you are looking for a friendly neighborhood kitchen away from home, you will find it here. They have been our second kitchen since moving to Portland, and we have never had a bad experience, food or service wise, Unusual in inconsistent Portland restaurants. From great simple breakfasts, (2 big buttermilk pancakes, yum!) to a reasonably priced steak dinner from their own beef you can't go wrong here. Lately they have been having some great specials like grilled Corvina, a lovely whitefish from Mexico with risotto cakes, all very nicely done at a great price. It is a comfortable place to dine alone, and I was surprised to see the review by the family who had a bad experience. Although it is a bar, we often see families there and have never noticed bad treatment of them, they are usually treated just like everyone else here as part of the Industrial family. Who takes a 4 year old to a bar or saloon for their birthday anyway? Check it out for a friendly neighborhood no pretense experience.
Nothing but good things to say.... – I have had the pleasure of enjoying many breakfast/brunches on the weekends, a few lunches during the week, and have nothing but great things to say about the decor, staff, and of course the food. I'm personally critical of food preparation and customer service having over 15 years of restaurant experience myself. One of my favorite places to visit and share with friends and family.
Keep in mind, the name of the establishment is "Industrial Cafe and Saloon", not "Red Robin" or "Chucky Cheese", thus it would be a poor choice to bring a child there for their birthday. (I'm surprised that has to be addressed) So yes, daddy can get his booze fix during happy hour, however there are no people in fuzzy costumes, video games, playground, or toys to play with.
The owners are great people, generous, and the staff is more than competent. I highly suggest their "Crab Feed" they have occasionally. Keep up the good work and see you next week!
FRIENDLY!!! – I love this place. It is excellent for lunch as well as weekend brunch. As far as not being kid friendly, you are parents. KEEP YOUR KIDS OUT OF BARS!!!!! However, I have been there when it is appropriate to bring your children into the restaurant (before 5 PM) and they have been exceptionally accommodating to parents as well as their children- almost to the detriment of the rest of the patrons. It's small. Intimate if you will. However, you will always find friendly service, excellent food and a hearty pour of the drink.
Fun decor, amazing service – Industrial Cafe has great, inexpensive food. Definitely not a kid-friendly restaurant...But perfect for dinner for two on the cheap. The beef is from the owner's own herd, so grass fed from start to finish. In the spring they have an all you can eat crab feed, lots of fun and messy to boot. I highly recommend this place, don't forget to check the urinal out!
Inexpensive, excellent food – I dropped in for lunch and decided to try the muffaletta sandwich - wow! For $8 with a generous portion of surprisingly good fries, I had a wonderful and reasonably priced meal. There was plenty of nearby street parking (25th and Vaughn isn't exactly a hot spot), and the service was good.
I haven't seen a muffaletta anywhere else in Portland, and it's the perfect thing to have someone *else* make for you. The number of ingredients and difficulty of preparation are not trivial.
Not Kid-Friendly, Weak Happy Hour – We went with our two young daughters because my husband found a "kid-friendly" location with a happy hour. The happy hour is only on drinks, not on food and there is no kid menu so we had to order an 8$ burger for our 4-year-old. The music was very quiet, so every sound we/they made was amplified. The other guests were very friendly toward us and our girls, but the server seemed very annoyed. At one point I asked if we could play with the "toys" on the bar, which were clearly there for customer use and again I felt like I was in trouble. The server knew that it was our girl's birthday, and said nothing to her. Perhaps she was just shy, but it's been a long time since I've had a server in Portland that was incapable of small talk. This is a friendly town, and servers even in the nicest restaurants have always been accommodating and nice to our family. This was an extremely uncomfortable experience and the food and price was not worth the atmosphere, the treatment.
Great "All-American" food, interesting decor – Great tasting food, funky industrial decor, large servings make this a fun place for lunch. Walking distance to Montgomery Park.
Northwest neighborhood spot features unique design, old school cocktails and inspired comfort food. – In Short
An ode to the Industrial Age, the café's interior features locally made tables fashioned out of welded I-beams inlaid with wood. Concrete walls are decorated with gears and a picture of an eagle in flight, sculpted from a saw. NW locals ranging from families to couples on dates gather for giant burgers, biscuit-topped chicken potpie and rib-eye steaks smothered in mushrooms and onions. Standout desserts include grilled pineapple upside-down cake and chocolate-infused bread pudding.
