Great Hair at a Great Price – Since moving to the city 6 years ago, I could never find a place I loved that I could afford… until I found James Bentley Salon. The staff is friendly and the salon is clean and conveniently located near my office in Midtown West.
I donated 8 inches of hair in December and had the cut done at James Bentley. That can be traumatic for some people but my stylist Manuel did a beautiful job. I’ve come back to him since then not just because of the numerous compliments I’ve gotten on the cut, but also because Manuel is so positive and upbeat. He makes it a great experience.

Love this place! – I adore this salon. I first heard about it through Lifebooker, but have now been coming back for almost a year. Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable and I couldnt be happier with my hair.
Manuel has been my main stylist and is a master of color and cut. I let him take the reigns and I always look great.
They are also on the cutting edge of color technology and are really sensitive to my fears about ruining my hair texture with dyes.
All in all, I wouldnt trust anyone else!

Best Service in the City without Breaking the Bank – I have been going to James Bentley Salon for years now. I found it through Lifebooker, and I couldn't have made a better decision. I love that I'm not passed around to the hair washer, the color person, the cut person, and the blow dry person. One executive designer does everything! It's fab! If you love forming a relationship with your stylist, this is the place for you.
I'm a highlight/lowlight person, so that gets pricey to maintain, but at this salon it's not too bad. I highly recommend booking through Lifebooker. I've had great experiences with Linda, Joe and Manuel. You can't go wrong with any of them! I also love that the staff is loyal to one another. There is no drama within this place whatsoever. It's just calm, quiet and relaxing.

Very Good service and reasonable – It's $30 for a blow out. My blow out was very nice and natural and they only use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners which is nice if you get keratin treatments. I highly recommend this salon.
When you purchase a blow dry series consisting of 4 blow dry appointments you still get the same great service, superior products and great style for only $22.50 per visit. It was our pleasure to meet you Jackie and look forward to seeing you again.
Best hair experience I've had – I purchased a certificate for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment from Lifebooker back in July. I saw that the certificate was expiring at the end of the month so I hurried to book an appointment at the James Bentley Salon.
I was a little intimidated walking into the salon since I'm a Westchester girl and have never gone to the city for a haircut or treatment. I shouldn't have been worried... from the moment I set foot in there, Joe was so welcoming!
I got a haircut and the BKT and he was so helpful throughout the whole process. He asked me some questions before we started and let me know what to expect from the treatment. I was a little nervous bringing up the coupon, but Joe was so friendly and didn't make me feel like I was cheap for buying a coupon online for this service.
The whole process took about three hours, and there was never an awkward moment. Joe was extremely friendly, was asking questions about me, my life, and was very eager to talk and chat about anything. I felt like I was getting my hair done by a friend! The haircut was great, and I loved how it looked.
At the end, he gave me printed instructions on how to take care of my hair for the four days before I could wash out the treatment, and told me he would call to follow up. I found this extremely helpful and referred to this sheet during the days that followed.
After the four days were up, I was extremely eager to shower and see the results. I was a little skeptical, and wanted to let my hair air dry completely to see what it would look like (as opposed to the giant poof that it used to become when wet) but in the end I grabbed the hair dryer to help it along. My hair took literally 5 minutes to dry straight! It was perfectly smooth in the end, and so so soft.. I know it's not a straightening treatment and I can wear my hair wavy still if I like, but I was still surprised by how quickly my hair straightened out by just running my fingers through it while blow drying.
I loved the BKT, and will definitely do it again in 3-4 months. I will definitely come back to the James Bentley Salon and ask for Joe!

Great Service - 5 stars – I had a great experience from start to finish. Nice, modern, sun lit, spacy studio with a good ambience. My goal was to get a haircut and highlights(my hair is thin blonde). As soon as I came in, I was greeted by my hair stylist Julia. She was a sweetheart and knew exactly what I needed from the start. She asked few questions about my hair, what I wanted to accomplish and just after few minutes she understood my needs right away. Overall, she listened carefully, did not try to sell products and took the time with everything that she did. She also checked with me periodically in order to make sure that I was happy.
At the end, she also advised me on what I can do to make my hair better and invited me to come back in a week in order to assess how I like my highlights and if there is anything I am not happy with – she would like correct it for free. In addition, before I left salon – I was given a complimentary package for a deep conditioner and stylish blow dry for the following weeks as well.
So I highly recommend this studio. Great experience and I would go back there and recommend it to my good friends. Ask for Julia – she is young, stylish and very easy going.

CONDESCENDING, BELITTLING, DISRESPECTFUL business operation – I would rate the service with a 0, if there was an option.

I have NEVER, felt so compelled to write a review for any business (whether good or bad) before, until I experienced the following:
DO NOT STEP FOOT INTO THIS BUSINESS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A NOBODY AND UNAPPRECIATED.
I will never forget this experience I had with this salon. It's so vivid in my mind that I can write verbatim what the "Executive Director" said to me that got me extremely angry!
I had the WORST, BY FAR the WORST experience ever here!
I bought a deal online for partial highlights. Booked my appointment on a Friday, July 2010 after work about 6:30pm. Got upstairs, and to be surprise, it was empty, all but with one client. I wondered to myself - would it be empty on a Friday evening after work? However, didn't think much of it until it all came full circle once I left.
The "Executive Director' greeted me at the door and proceeded to explain the choice of colors that I could go with to get the highlights I wanted. Fast forward, came time to wash out the dye. Made very small talk and he had the audacity to say "NOT TO MAKE YOU FEEL BAD BUT WE'RE NOT MAKING MONEY FROM YOU". Excuse me???? Proceeding to the blowdrying part, he blow-dried my hair only to the point where the highlights were barely noticeable. My hair had still been SOPPING WET as if I had just came out of the shower and just enough so it wasn't dripping water. Perhaps it wasn't dripping water, but it was EXTREMELY WET, still as if it had just been towel-dried for a minute. I nicely asked him if he could blow-dry it more, so I wouldn't leave the salon looking like that!!! He even dared to say and ask me in the most condescending, belittling tone -
"WHY, DO YOU WANT TO PAY FOR IT?" in those exact same words!!! What a shame!!! First off, for a new client, who talks to ANYONE like that? especially in a service business??? Of course I said no to paying $30 as I simply needed him to only completely DRY my hair not style it, which he could have easily understood. I was extremely nice about it, and just let it go. In fact, I paid and was prepared to give him the standard gratuity. (Yes, I was TOO NICE about it).I had it on the counter ready to give it to him. Before leaving, I brought up the situation to him and told him I thought he was rude. He blatantly denied it and said "I wasn't being rude". Instead, I decided not to, based on his words, "Please, I don't need your money" in those same exact words. He proceeded to continue and say "I make good money", etc. etc. I stormed out of the salon and vowed never, ever to step foot into their salon.
NOW THAT YOU KNOW HOW JAMES BENTLEY'S BUSINESS OPERATES, SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. DON'T DEAL WITH THEIR HOITY-TOITY CONDESCENDING, PRETENTIOUS, TRASHY BEHAVIOR.
Perhaps he was offended that I gave him my honest opinion when he asked what I thought of the outcome. Though my response had been a simple, "It will take some time getting used to it." All in all, that type of behavior is UNACCEPTABLE and SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED.
Go somewhere else where your business is always appreciated and you are treated with kindness, respect and sincerity.
I don't understand why such a BAD experience that took place in July was reviewed 4 months later in November. I consider myself a person with a good memory, in fact I have a good memory of the Friday that Jennifer L. was in the salon, I would recognize her on the street today yet I don't think I'd remember "verbatim" words spoken to me over 4 months ago.
Jennifer purchased an online voucher for 50%off on half head of highlights that also included a deep conditioning treatment for $65.00. I didn't read in her review anything bad about the services she received with her deep discounted purchase only about the things the $65.00 voucher didn't cover. There is no guarantee that two people are going to click and get along and obviously Jennifer and our Executive Designer had a conflict of personality, but the bottom line is Jennifer rec'd a beautiful partial head of highlights and conditioning treatment.
Terrific BKT service from stylist Joseph – I came upon James Bentley Salon through a discounted deal for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment through the service BuyWithMe!com (please use my referral URL if you're thinking of signing up! www!buywithme!com/ref/WRCQ676P) Before my appointment, I went online to read some reviews from other clients, and I was really worried about the quality of the service I'd receive based on some negative reviews of Linda and the salon in general from Yelp!com. But I went ahead with my appointment anyway.
The stylist that did the BKT on me was Joseph, although Linda was there too, performing a BKT on another client. I paid attention out of the corner of my eye, to see if others' complaints about her had any merit. Well, honestly, I don't know what the other reviewers who called Linda bitchy had experienced, but Linda was perfectly good-natured and very accommodating to her client, I saw first-hand.
Even more important was the top-quality service that I'd received from Joseph. I got the BKT hoping to see some relaxation in my naturally-curly, straightening-resistant hair. After the 4 day no-wash window was over, I washed my hair and let it dry naturally to see if the curls had relaxed at all. I called Joseph (who had been very adamant when I first left the salon that I follow up with him a week later to let him know how I like the results) to express that I was a little bit disappointed in the lack of noticeable difference in the texture of my hair following treatment, and you know what? He invited me back to the salon the very next day, where he performed a second treatment on me using the "chocolate" formula, free of charge. Four days later, after washing, my hair was so soft and frizz-free, and I finally saw a loosening of the curls that I'd been hoping for. Joseph took complete care of me, offering his time, materials and skills to ensure that I was pleased with the results, at no additional cost to me. This speaks volumes about their commitment to customer satisfaction, in my opinion.
I just want to add that while I was in Joseph's chair the second time, Linda's client from the week before came in to buy a shampoo, and she was raving about how happy she was with the BKT Linda had performed on her. She said she'd gotten stuck in the downpour the night before, and she was shocked that her hair did not frizz up or get ruined by the rain. She was really pleased with the job Linda had done on her. Furthermore, Linda was there during my second visit, once again in perfectly good-natured spirits, laughing and having a fun conversation with the girl in her chair. To the reviewers who called Linda nasty, I really feel you may have just caught her on a bad day. Ultimately, we're all human and are prone to having an off day (or series of days) every so often. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Linda based on those few reviews. She's really quite delightful, and a talented stylist, and if you still have your doubts, well, at least go to Joseph because he's just plain awesome.

I know how much color and cuts cost. I recently found James Bentley after moving to the West Side and I can tell you that I have been astonished that they can provide the same level of service that I have become accustomed to at less than half the price.
Salon is beautiful too.
worst salon ever – it's the worst salon i have ever been to. The staff is indifferent but the OWNER is so damn rude to the clients. The staff ruined the hair color for a friend and instead of rectifying the mistake, the owner jumps in and refuses to change the color or satisfy the client. Rather he asked for more money. The staff does a different hair color and then disappers for a while and when comes back, the client sees a totally different color. The staff apparently mixed two shades and applied a different color than what was asked for. THE OWNER IS RUDE. I would not recommend going to this salon.
