The review below is extrmemly biased – The review below is our first ever negative review. If you read the other reviews it is easy to see that it is extremely far-away from the other opinions. Once every few years you get a customer who has some personal issues. Unfortunately, this is one of them. This person filed a grievance with TWO local agencies and both institutions dismissed her claim very quickly.
Our return policy is posted properly on our front desk and is NO DIFFERENT than most privately owned retail businesses on NW 23rd or even in PDX. (Returns are for merchandise only, unless a product is defective.) I cannot explain why the consumer below cannot understand under any circumstance why a business like ours (and many others) cannot afford to give cash returns, we are not a big chain store. But I do know we try our best to provide "personal, local" service and live up to all the other rave reviews, magazine and newspaper articles, and features in local tour books that are EXTREMELY positive.
"Hello" is personally owned. Like most Mom and Pop stores, we work hard to make ends meet and STRIVE to provide great, personal customer service in order to compete with the chain stores only a few blocks away.
Pop in anytime. I can also provide documentation from my correspondence with the local agencies to see that her claim was deemed "unfounded".
Horrible customer service – I had a horrendous customer service experience with this store and would not recommend this store to anyone. I spent a substantial amount of money on merchandise. Within a short time after my purchase I returned to the store (the same day) to return one item. It was a gift for someone and I had found something better suited at a store down the street. The store would not take the merchandise back and informed me they have a no-return policy which is printed on the receipt (which obviously you only get after you make the purchase when it is too late). Your only option is to take a store credit. I tried to resolve the matter with the store manager but she was unwilling to speak with me. This store does not care about their customers.
The best books in town – I never know what to get those tweeners. Even the young ones are hard. I knew if I went to Hello Portland they would have something. What I discovered was a book that every kid would love instead of toss. Graphically thay are amazing, I don't know where they find them but if you want something unique and those big big book stores turn you off, this is the place for you. Then you will turn your head and oh my Gosh! There is a milion other cool things to ponder. Last year I put a cleaver pin on top of each christmas gift. This year I see they have plates that match. I can't wait to do my shopping all in one place.
Editorial Review by Leilani A. Wertens – Quirky store in the trendy Nob Hill district sells colorful toys and humorous T-shirts for children, plus party favors and sleek kitchen ware.
love, Love, LOVE this store!!!! – I live in New York but travel to Portland often and HELLO is the store I absolutely, positively MUST go to every single visit. Why? Because it's fun and there are tons of great things to buy. Every time I go I just LOVE IT. Take it from a snobby New Yorker, we do not have a store this cool in Manhattan. You folks in Portland are so lucky to have Hello!.
Many Unique Gifts To Chose From – I love going to Hello Portland. My time is limited and I don't enjoy going store to store looking for individual gifts. Hello Portland, literally, has something for everyone. Can shop for my kids, husband and mother all in the same store. The gifts are unique and the store is full of great stuff. I reccommend this store for everyone!
A gift store with style and humor – Hello is the perfect shopping experience--smart concept design without any bogus attitude, tons of fun merchandise at all price ranges, and just a feel-good store. The owners, recent transplants from Martha's Vineyard, are warm and friendly without ever interfering with shopping enjoyment. They have a sassy selection of fun gifts for every occasion--housewarming, hostess, baby shower, birthday, holiday. Even when I walk in here to just have a few laughs, I always find something fun for a friend.
Most creative gift store i've ever been to – I love this store! It's one of those stores where you go in and you want everything and spend hours playing with all the goodies. This store is fabulous, kitchsy and a must for anyone wanting a unique gift for themselves or for aynone else.
Find a gift for ANYONE on your list!! – I have never seen a collection of the most unique gifts and gadgets you can ever imagine! These store owners left no rock unturned when they put together this collection! Most of the merchandise is quite smart, usable, and so different, it is never to be seen again. If you don't buy it when you see it, you will spend a lifetime trying to find it again. My husband was quite entertained as I shopped for the most difficult on the list, our co-workers.
This is a great shop and I forget what Portland was like before it opened.
Hello! This is one cute shop! – It seems as though the inventory of this little gem of a shop is tailor made for me and my childlike taste! I love their quirky sense of humor and brightly colored wares. I stop in at hello! anytime I'm needing to find a pick me up gift, b-day present, or just to browse. Although, I've never managed to just browse - I always end up buying something. Go figure!
