Don't go here. They are rude and could care less about your business. Their management has gone down the tubes. Plenty of other good spots in SD with people that actually value your business and want to make you happy.
A really great time – Of all the typical downtown bars and clubs to shout house definitely stands out to me. It's a really good time without all of the pretentious attitude. It's almost impossible not to have fun here.
Dueling Piano bar – You are sure to have a great time if you like dueling piano bars. The amount of energy that is going on at any given moment during their performances is fantastic, and to be a part of it is overwhelming. You simply can't get enough of the live entertainment at this place.
Most Outragous Bar in San Diego – I have lived in San Diego now for 5 years and I dont normally go downtown because its to expensive. But after going to the Shout House for my 21st birthday 3 years ago I wont go anywhere else. Just walking by this bar after the piano's start playing you can feel the energy and excitment radiating from the building. If you like music, being loud, and fun this is the place you need to go!!! The staff is always freindly and despite how busy it gets they are always there if you need a refill on your drink, the piano players are a trip and really make this place special, dont feel afraid to go up and talk to them. I highly recommend this place for people of all ages. I recommend this place to everyone who comes to San Diego!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place...other guy doesn't know what he is talking about – So the guy who said he couldn't get in because he didn't have his passport, well duh! like anyone excepts a foreign DL to get in anywhere...hello this isn't europe BRING the correct ID and you'll get in. How can you write a review on a place if you never got inside. plus it sounds like he just wanted to bag on everyone that night. I have to say that everytime I go to the shout house the people are so nice and fun! I had a party there for my birthday and they gave me a gift bag and called me on stage and the manager came over to me and was like if there is anything you need let me know. This place is so fun way better than any bar downtown. it is totally interactive and fun and the bartenders poor strong drinks. If you want to do something super fun and different you should go here.
Don't waste your time with these guys - San Diego has plenty of better alternatives – I had the unfortunate experience last night of having organised to meet friends at this place, having flown in from Europe to celebrate my 30th birthday. My girlfriend and I didn't even get in the door because I didn't have my passport with me, despite having a European drivers license, residence card and various other forms of ID. We asked to see the manager but the security guy at the door claimed to *be* the manager so we phoned them hoping the real manager might be more sensible, but no - no passport, no entry. We tried the brewery next door but they had some lame excuse for closing the kitchen early so we ended up across the road at Hennessy's Irish Pub which wasn't bad.
In any case we got a quick look inside and it looked very ordinary. Even if I had my passport I would have reservations showing it to them, and I really don't think I'd bother because San Diego has plenty of better establishments.
Summary: Don't waste your time.
Update: It's interesting that my negative views are shared by another reviewer, and one of the two positive reviewers (reece422) reads like it's written my a PR rep for these guys and is over two years old.
Rude Service – They pack the place on weekends so don't expect to get good service when they could easily fill your seat with another victim, uh, customer. In addition to the $10 cover for everyone if you have a party of 8 or more you will be charged 18% gratuity whether you like it or not - whether they deserve it or not - whether you have 8+ people on your tab or everyone is paying separately. At restaurants it's clear who is in your party - it's who is sitting at your table, 1 table. How do you determine a "party" at a bar? We were rudely informed that is server discretion. Don't meet anyone there and don't talk to people at other tables or they will consider them part of your "party". Both the manager and the server talked down to us, trying to talk us in circles hoping we were intoxicated enough so we would just give up. I'm really sad I had such a shi**y experience because the place used to be fun.
Great during the week.... – Awesome place to go unwind after work. AWESOME drink specials, good beer and a fun atmosphere. The "dualing pianos" idea is really fun, they let the audience request songs and everybody gets really involved. Slightly older crowd, but a good place to meet people!
The Shout! House - Rock n' Roll, Sing a Long, Dueling Piano Bar - THEY ROCK! – If you want to do something totally different while in San Diego where it is a casual atmosphere, great entertainers, awesome food, great staff and just an overrall good time...this is the place to go. The entertainers are incredible...they must know thousands of songs from the 50's, 60's to current alternative music because they play everything that is requested by the audience...or at least they fake it pretty good if they don't know something. The whole point is for the audience to be part of the show by singing all of the popular songs that we all sing anyway...regardless if we can carry a tune. There is some adult humor so don't be surprised by the language or inuendo and if you are sitting up front or they notice you are not participating, you will be called out. It's a great place to celebrate birthdays, bachelorette/bachelor parties, getting divorced, graduation, etc. They will get your guest of honor up on stage for a "roast" which is hilarious. They don't have a cover during the week except on Thursdays $5.00 after 8pm (College Night - cheap drinks, no cover with college ID) and Fri & Sat $8.00 that starts at 7pm...no cover if you are there early. Best suggestion for groups of 8 or more is to make a reservation to guarantee your seats because they don't allow you to hold tables/seats past 7pm. You will become addicted after your first visit to this place because it is just SO much fun. They have Souvenir Hurricane Glasses & Souvenir Shot Glasses that you get to keep with purchase of a drink/shot and who could miss the BIG A--BEER CUPS...hilarious.
They have Bachelorette/Birthday packages and VIP Bottle Service as well.
Best place in the Gaslamp Quarter by far!
Twin pianos fill the stage, drinks fill the tables, and sing-alongs of familiar choruses fill the bar. – In Short
The Shout House will never be mistaken for one of Gaslamp's hip and trendy establishments, but that doesn't preclude it from being one of the area's most charming and spirited. The wooden tables, chairs and railings provide a roadhouse feel, and the mix of college students, casual thirty-somethings and expense-account business travelers whoop it up accordingly, singing along to familiar songs performed by the two piano players seated across from each other onstage.
