Children friendly. Great food at reasonable cost! Nice waiters. Great margaritas. If you don't like to use valet parking, be prepared to circle around until you find a spot.
Good food, but a rip-off parking situation – I've always liked this place. But our last time there we were meeting friends who all drove their own cars, and all were very angry with the parking situation. The restaraunt is in a strip shopping center with plenty of available parking. The valets go into the wide-open parking lot and block ALL the spaces off with orange cones! So your choices are to pay them to move a cone and stick your car in, or park way away and walk. I don't mind paying a valet when there is no nearby parking available but this is just a racket!
Good Place for a Shopping Break – You will crave fajita nachos from here after trying them.
During lunch, there is an attractive crowd.
I think the bartenders could use some customer service skills...they love to stare at the computer screen and turn their backs to their bar patrons. We had to go out of our way twice to get their attention and the place wasn't even busy.
Yes I do work for Escalante's – Hello folks,
I am one of the managers at Escalante's Fine Tex Mex in the HV shopping center. I am writing this letter in response to all the reviews, which, regardless of their nature, are very well received and appreciated.
First of all, it's ir our policy that we don't take reservations. However, we DO have a book where we write all the parties on; we call it "Priority seating" or "Call ahead "seating. The first thing we specify to our guests when they call is that we DO NOT take reservations, but we can take their information so they are placed in a priority seating list. We do not guarantee tables, but we DO, and WE HAVE to, reserve the first set of big parties that come in at the earliest times, otherwise, it would be definitely impossible to accomodate everybody. How do guests react to these policies? Well, some are pretty laid-back and nice, and others yell at the managers and hostesses; there's even a gentleman that threw the pager at a hostess once. But it is our job to be gracious and not be confrontational. It is our job, and we mention it to the guest, to procure a table as soon as we can, but that depends on the people that were seating there in the first place. The managers, hostesses, busboys and servers are on the look out for any available tables, and we clean it as soon as folks get up and leave. I'd like to add that the earlier you and your party want to come, the easier it will be to seat you. For example, if you call us requesting a table of 11 at 6:30 on a Friday night, yes, you will probably not have to wait long, or it might even be set up when you get there...however, if you call to let us know that you would like to come with 20 friends at 8:00 PM on a Saturday evening, most likely you will have to wait at the bar, which is not a bad place to wait after all!
On the subject of food, Escalante's adheres to the highest standards: Did you know we have a special menu for celiacs, or people that suffer from food allergies? We have a gluten-free menu and the oil we fry our chips in doesn't contain any peanut oil at all!
All of our sauces are made fresh EVERY DAY with extra virgin olive oil, and they are low in sodium!
Should you be eating at the restaurant and not be fully satisfied with your meal, ask for the MOD, we'll make sure you leave happy! We'll make any changes that we have to make in order to accomodate your needs! Margarita needs a little bit more tequila? No problem. Do you need more sour cream or cheese with your fajitas? No problem! Would you like grilled veggies instead of rice and beans as your side dish? No problem!
Friends, we love what we do, and we love meeting new and exciting people every day; we want to ensure your total satisfaction when you visit our establishment, from the front desk to the service to the food. If you plan to visit the restaurant, I encourage you to ask for any manager on duty and introduce yourself, we'll surely enjoy your initiative.
Thank you and God bless!
Poor management – I was there about 3 weeks ago with 4 of my friends. Iordered a salad, my friends shared fajitas, and my other friend ordered cheese enchiladas. Everything was great until my friend found a hair in her enchilada. We requested to speak with the manager, hisname was Silvio, he politely apologized and offered to change the plate and take it off from our tikect, that was very nice of him until he went a couple of steps further and we all overheard him saying that we probably put the hair ourselves to get some free food. My friend is african american. We were extremely offended and disappointed and didn't say anything because we didn't want to cause a scene. None of us will return.
Review your check carefully and pay with cash only!! – My friends and I go here from time to time and have noticed within the past 6 to 9 months that we or our companions are consistently overcharged. Most recently, upon seeing my credit card postings, I noticed I had been charged twice for the same amount for drinks I had in the bar. My friend has been overcharged before as well and has gone back in to protest but they would not make adjustments. My friend has also had this experience when having drinks with business colleagues who pay the bill for everyone without looking at it. Her colleague started noticing that he was being charged for drinks he never ordered. Another problem was that another friend was charged for premium liquor when ordering a well drink.
I will not be returning- the food and drinks are too expensive in the first place. If you do go, make sure to review your bill and pay with cash to ensure you are not charged more than once.
Wait stuff are rude and aggressive, floor manager is unprofe – After complaining to the floor manager that the waiter was incredibly rude and was rushing us out of the restaurant while we were still waiting, 20 minutes wait, for our drinks to come and to place an order for food, the floor manager started to scream “Get out! Get out! I have been a manager for five years and I do not want you all here. Just get out, you do not have to pay for your food”. He was screaming at the top of his lungs in front of the full restaurant, walking up and down the bar area and during all that time, we were just sitting there in complete shock. We certainly did not come for free food and despite the fact that the service was horrible, I intended to pay for our food and drinks, and tip. I told the manager that all we wanted is our bill so we could pay for it and we would leave, but he kept on screaming. At that point, I was crying because I was so embarrassed, but I managed to come up to one of the waiters and gave him my credit card in order to pay for the bill. After I paid, we got up and left.
We did call the corporate office and left a message. On Monday afternoon, a lady called back and said that she would forward it to appropriate person. Three days later, a corporate manager called and he was very nonchalant about the whole incident. He said the floor manager was very stressed that night because of some internal issue with one of the employees and was having a bad day. That same corporate manager said that a waitress who worked that night told him that there were some staff problems that night and that the floor manager was upset and yet, that he did not want to lose us as clients and he hoped we would come back. There was no discussion about whether this floor manager will receive any warning, any training in customer service, no, absolutely no action taken to correct the problem. That is very disturbing to me that I have to go through such a degrading, embarrassing and traumatic experience and this floor manager will not even be reprimanded for his unprofessional behavior.
Two people in my party that evening were gay, my male coworker and his friend visiting from New York and we all thought that this is one of the reasons we were treated so rudely by all male wait staff.
The sad thing is when next day I told about my experience to my other coworker, he confirmed that his wife and him also had bad service at Escalante’s (Escalante’s Fine Tex Mex) in Highland Village. Again, this goes to show that this is not an isolated case of bad customer service, but there is something basically wrong with the service in this restaurant.
don't waste your time and money – came here after enjoying the sugarland location very much. this location is NOTHING like that one. the food tastes totally different--the guac was old and tasted sour, the beans had no flavor whatsover, and the rice was pretty much the same. entrees were blah. this is the worst tex-mex i've ever had in houston. not cheap either.
We will not be returning – A few weeks ago me and my girlfriends were celebrating a bachelorette party. While we waited for our table we were having drinks at the bar. One of my gfs order shots for everyone from one of the bartenders (can't remember his name but he has green eyes)and he asked if we were trying to get wasted... of course we were, it was my friends bachelorette! he then offered something "more effective" than alcohol...we first though he was joking, but then he offered one os uf to step outside to give her some coke and that's when we knew he was serious. A few of us were so shocked we just left without even paying. How is it possible than a respectful establishment in one of the best areas of the cities gets away with such thing? I'm deeply offended and will not return.
Not truthful. – 1-14-2009 We were told by phone that we had a reservation for 20. When we got there we were told our table(s) were given to another party who just walked in. IE no reservation. We all stood blocking the front door for 30 minutes. Our group and our numerous friends wil not return to any Escalante.
