Love them! – I have employed this company for almost 5 years. They manage my 3 family home in Revere while I am located in California. They have always kept in good contact with me regarding all matters and have kept my tenants happy. I would recommend them to any home owner in need of a property management company.
Great Condo Management – Butler Property manages the condo community that I own a unit in. We've been using them now for almost 2 years. When we signed them on, we were low on funds, and certain features of this community were falling apart. The management team we had previously didn't answer our calls and were just non-existent. In the two years we've had Butler, our finances have improved, and projects that were never taken care finally were. I've been very happy with them as a team and would recommend them to any association.
I'm not being paid to write this, they are awful – It's always interesting that a company is so concerned with it's image it pays a bunch of people to write positive reviews for them. I live in a Butler managed property, my girlfriend lives in a different Butler property, my co-worker lives in my complex. They have our email addresses, they NEVER emailed us to write a review. It's crazy that all these people "got an email" and wrote overwhelmingly positive reviews. There's a person who wrote a review 4 pages ago that said he wished he had read about this company before he rented from them, I feel the same way. Do not rent from this company. They will do everything on the cheap, and they still might not do anything. I moved in with no screens on most of my windows. My butler rental agent Rich said that wasn't a big deal, and they would take care of it but I could see rat droppings all over the place. I called and spoke to Jim the owner, and he said that he had bigger fish to fry because people had no heat and no hot water as I called in the winter. My apt is not air conditioned of course, and last weekend, I had to have my windows open to cool off. I fell asleep with my bedroom window open and I woke up with a rat in my apartment. I called Butler and their "24 hour" hotline went right to voicemail. Same thing on Easter Sunday when I was having my family over. My nana couldn't eat because she was afraid of the rats. I talked to Diane today (Monday) and after being completely embarrassed in front of my family, her first piece of advice was to buy a rat trap. A RAT TRAP???? How about you put some stupid screens in my apartment? I'm no math whiz, but that can't cost more than fifty bucks, as I have only two windows. I echo the other person when I say do not rent from this company.
Very Happy Tenant – Butler rented me my apartment about 6 months ago, I have bad credit from a divorce and was having a hard time getting someone to rent to me, plus I have dogs.....very hard to find landlords to take dogs!!! Anyways, I just wanted to come on here and put a good word in for them. They've been great, they gave me a chance when i really needed one, and the few maintenance issues i've had, they've taken care of it. I love em'.
One word "BAD" – Wow! So I came on to City Search to find a reliable company to rent from. I start with the ones rated best first.
This was one of the highest around here and I cant believe what I'm reading!! I may have to stop using City Search.
I have rented from J Butler and there is NO WAY this many people are happy with them.
Something is fishy.
When a company is bad, they are bad.
If they are out there neglecting tenants and owners what makes someone think they are out there doing backflips for another?
It doesnt happen.
Never in all my years have I seen a company treat its customers with such disrespect.
Our rent was high and always paid on time but the neglect from them was atrocious.
And if you do it to one, you do it to many.
Theres not much else to say, not sure why I even wrote this.
I'm just blown away that J. Butler would even get one good review. But if I can save one person from dealing with this shady company then it was worth it.

Apartment by the Sea – I have been in many rental situations but this is the largest apartment complex I have lived in. I work from home so I interact with the property management crew often. They have always been helpful and personable and responsive to reports of problems in the apartment even though they have so many renters and buildings to take care of.
Great Landlord Around – I have to say that renting from J. Butler properties has proven to be the best renting experience yet. Their helpful personable staff and responsive service person have been nothing less than superb. The leasing agent Katie help me find the apartment of my dreams she's a wonderful person an asset to J Butler property Management . It will be many years to come before I ever leave.

Great Experience – I have rented many apartments over the years from both owner occupied buildings and large apartment complexes. I have to say that renting from J. Butler properties has proven to be the best renting experience yet. Their helpful personable staff and responsive service personnel have been nothing less than superb. Thank you Mr. Butler for what has been an excellent renting experience. If I ever move back to Massachusetts, and I probably will, I will be calling you again. Thanks again.
Scumbags Awful company, awful people – I had lived with my fiance for about a year in a Butler run property. We never heard from them, just sent them a check once a month. We lost power during the ice storm and were without for about 3 weeks with debris all over the yard and up against the house. I had called a couple of times, but had just spoken to Diane and was told I'd get a call back. When we didn't hear from them for a few weeks, my fiance had called J Butler to follow up and find out how long we would be without power for and if they had any details on when they might get someone out to clean the yard. When I came home I found her in tears. Apparently Jim thought it was appropriate to tell her "we are not responsible for natural disasters and tell your boyfriend calling every day is not going to get the trees out of your yard, good bye."
When I called and spoke to him he was busy telling me they couldn't get to the yard until Spring.(mind you there were everything from small trees to cable wires everywhere) He also proceeded to tell me my fiance was just being over dramatic and all he told her was "it wasn't there problem"
I was not happy then, but when April came and the debris was still in the yard we called again. After a week and a half of phone calls with no return call I called up and told the receptionist that we would simply have the yard cleaned, save the receipts and then deduct it from the rent. Jim immediately got on the phone and told me I didn't know who I was dealing with and if I thought thing were bad now "watch what happens" if we withhold rent.
I have never been threatened by a landlord before, but this guy was talking like he was one part lawyer, one part cop, one part Tony Soprano. We moved out the following month breaking our lease and losing our entire security deposit, and I will tell you it was entirely worth it to be away from such a person and company.
Bad Company, Bad People
Great Landlord – We recently moved from a high rise in Wakefield managed by this company to a single family in Reading also managed by Butler. (We Just had a baby) Their leasing department did an excellent job meeting our needs, and Katie, Rich, Megan and Jamie were a great help during such a stressful move. Kudos to all.
We would recommend BPM to anyone looking to rent.
