Anybody can be a pinball wizard at Poison Girl. A nondescript dive that's way underrated for its craft beer portfolio, the patio at this hole-in-the-wall feels more like a friend's backyard than a bar.

This funky Montrose bar has cheap drinks, is great for people watching, and a photo-op-ready Kool-Aid Man inexplicably in the backyard. Wednesday nights there's a pretty solid reading series that draws a good crowd.

Could take or leave it. – If you're meeting people who got there early and secured seating, it's awesome to sit and people watch and have other's fetch your drinks.

If you're there first... or late... or alone, then it could possibly suck beyond anything else ever.

VERY crowded with scenesters and hipsters and everyone who tries to be different and unique but ends up looking just like the person next to them.

Service sucks because the bar is laid out poorly, not because the bartenders are bad.

I'll go when I'm meeting a good sized group of my friends again, but I won't go back alone or with just one person.

Goldfish Crackers and People Watching – If you want to see an eclectic crowd, hang out at the side of the bar facing the doorway. Their martinis are decent and the bar grub is Goldfish crackers.

it's the type of place you would only go for one drink and to meet up before going to Anvil or another local Montrose bar.

It was good – I went to Poison Girl about a week ago and it was my first time going. I actually went my bro who got invited to go so I tagged along.

It was a bit hard to find honestly. It's sort of "hidden" imo. The interior was nice, semi dark, had pin ball machines, nice tables with a decent size patio area. I did not order anything but from the looks of it, seems like people were getting served on time. It seems like a good place to hang out with friends.

I honestly can't write much else, but I will say I am willing to come back and I would recommend it.

Poison Girl is LAME! – This bar is way lame. It's full of 'hipsters' that got nowhere to be, man.

I ordered a bud light, my reply from the geeky scenster 30 year old virgin of a bartender was a simple 'Nope.'

~ Now if I were in communist China, I could understand a bar not having Bud Light. Here in the good ole U.S. of A. I expect every bar to have Bud Light. ~ Oh, what beer do they have you ask? Coors Light? no. Miller Light? no. I don't even think you can get a High Life at Poison Girl. But what you can get is a Lone Star. Now being a Native Texan I hate to break it to y'all but Lone Star is a garbage beer. People only drink it b/c its cheap. Like 8 bux a case cheap. I get the feeling that the patrons of PG drink Lone Star in an attempt to summon up the visage of Bud from Urban Cowboy - PG is no Gilley's sir.

And Westheimer is no Spencer Hwy.

Apart from the limited beer selection the artwork on the walls reminds you of that perverted uncle's trailer you used to go to when you were young. Lovely velvet coated prints of naked ladies sword fighting tigers adore the walls. I love the way a nice pair of knockers looks in a chain mail suit. mmmm....

I hear there are some cool pinball machines and a patio here but i didn't really get that far. The men's room is basically an empty 5 gallon bucket that drains into a hole in the floor. I think its not cleaned on purpose to enhance the "divey-ness".

The 2 bartenders wander back in forth behind the bar slack jawed and lethargically. If they work on tips they weren't trying very hard to make any... very unfriendly and like talking to play dough.

The geeky scenster bartender I mentioned earlier seemed preoccupied with playing the most random assortment of ''underground'' garbage music I've ever heard.

Then we tried the Poison Girl shot. Its supposed to be a big time secret about whats in it, but I think the main ingredient was crap. Don't know what it was, don't care.

All in all I hated this bar & will probably never return. If you want a real "dive" bar or a "hole in the wall" head over to Barefoot Tina's or some joint in Pasa-get down-dena. If you wanna hang with Houston's hipsters head to Poison Girl

Crowded, Bad Service – There is one bar and usually two or three bartenders. I was having a good time there, and up until this I was ok with the place. I was waiting to order a beer from the middle of the bar. The bartender serving the middle of the bar was busy helping the ends of the bar at the time, so I waited for the line to clear at the end of the bar, near the front door. I moved into the seat that was being taken by the people that were leaving.

When I got there I asked the red head bartender for an "octoberfest" told me I had to wait because I hadn't waited long enough (at this point it was like 10 minutes). Nobody else where I was wanted service at that time, but he made sure to ask everyone else before he came back to me, these were people he had just talked to. When he returned to me he gave me one second to say my drink, which I had already told him and I was about to say then he turned away and walked to the opposite side of the bar and completely blew me off. It was like the treatment from an impatient card dealer at a casino. I went back to my table where my friend who drove was and I told him that I wanted to leave and we left.

Horrible service. I got the tail end of a mood swing from one of the staff members my last time up there and I will never go back.

P0ison Girl, the Cure for What Ales You – The P0ison Girl Cocktail Lounge simultaneously breaks as well as maintains many of the stereotypes of what we often refer to as a “dive bar.” This diamond in the rough is seated quite comfortably between two indie clothing apparel stores right on Westheimer in the Montrose District. At first glance PG’s atmosphere is obviously reminiscent of the dive genera. However, what it lacks in space it certainly makes up for in personality. A laid-back social experience further emphasized by the low lighting, inexpensive décor, appealingly generous drink specials, and the notably friendly staff.

The P0ison Girl does not come equipped with your typical bar accommodations. You won’t find a single pool table in this joint but, you will find quite a few pin ball machines, a fairly expansive patio, and everyone’s favorite the giant red Kool Aid Man statue tucked away in the corner.

The digs, staff, and of course the booze are all charming aspects of the P0ison Girl but the real spirit of this establishment comes directly from its patrons. Her crowd could best be described as eclectic. A place where complete strangers can come together and no one leaves without making a few new friends the P0ison Girl is the last place for pretentiousness. If you are looking for a good time, good friends, and a nice stiff drink the P0ison Girl can certainly accommodate.

Great happy hour; take negative reviews with grain of salt – I found good and bad reviews of this bar online But two friends recommended it for my birthday, and we went with it. It's a little hard to find, but very worth it. We were there for Friday happy hour, and it was great. I guess the business picks up later in the evening, so we went when it was slow. Lots of seating, great drink specials, and the folks behind the bar (especially the blond woman) treated us great. They found out it was my birthday and gave us a round of shots. We had a GREAT time at this place, I highly recommend it... at the right time.

Cool hang out place! – This place is really cool! Love the pin ball machines & just the over all feel of the pace when you're w/ a group of your closest friends. But, the bartender on Wed (08/23/2008) was a total B#$CH - her service sucked & she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. (Get another job if you dont like it) Over all I guess good hang out place. If you sit on the sofa's right when you walk in to the right -- really cool!

Best patio bar in Texas! – I love this place. It's like a neighborhood dive bar for educated adults! The music is juke-box special, pinball machines from the 70-80's and the coolest patio in Texas to relax, meet friends and enjoy the best margarita in Houston.

Montrose hangout with a decidedly laidback Texas atmosphere and cool neighborhood clientele. – In Short
An addictive mix of area locals and rocker 20-somethings crowd into this lower Westheimer dive bar for cheap drinks and friendly commingling. Inside, the narrow red space is light on decor with a Texas music-heavy jukebox and pinball machines providing the entertainment (besides what's poured at the bar of course). Outside, a low-key Hill Country vibe takes over with plenty of picnic tables, lush plants and sub-tropicals, and random lawn furniture.
