Good food, great bartender, good service--a nice place made us feel at home..
We returned to ViaNove after several year's absence. After this visit we will return more frequently. It was an enjoyable time. The decor has a bit of a modern style--it's on a few mezzanine style floors, so it's a nice change from the boring Detroit-area lack of style (pretend you're in a real city!). A little smoky in some places, but not bad. The bar area is tight, but has a beautiful wall of bottles. And the bartender is well versed in drinks--Zen-tinis made with freshly brewed green tea. He wasn't at all fazed by our request for a Cynar "Negroni"--(try it...so good) and he made a perfectly balanced one.
For dinner, we started with the Frutte di Mare Griglia--grilled scallops, shrimp, calamari--really, really good. The grilled scallops were delicious. Friends got the Calamari fritti--also very good. I'd recommend both without any concerns.
For entrees-the Fettine alla Milanese (breaded, pan fried beef) was just what I wanted--breading was crisp, not too salty and not greasy. The pastas were cooked properly.
Service was very good in all elements. Vinny, our waiter, was funny and professional. Good wine list with some reasonable choices--you can visit their website to see the entire menu.
The only negative is the live music. A bit too loud. They're not bad but the volume level makes it hard to talk. Other than that I'd recommend and I know we won't wait so long to return.

Stale Restaurant.
It looks nice on the outside but the food was bland and stale. We had a calamari, lobstertail and mixed grill. The lobstertail was stale. That's why it's not at market price. How can one mess up a lobstertail? It had too much seasonings! The calmari was bland with no seasonings at all. Do not go there if you want great tasting food!

He popped the question...We popped champagne!.
My boyfriend and I ate at Via Nove last week and had the most amazing time. We're a very private couple and like to keep things to ourselves, so little did I know what he had in mind...everything was perfect from the appetizers , wine, and each of our meals. Delicious. And we both appreciate art and places with a unique environment, so we were totally in our element. When it was time for dessert, we ordered 2 because they all looked so delish...and when they came he, well, proposed, right at the table!! I couldn't have asked for a better time, place or surroundings. Of course I said yes, but Via Nove will always be our little secret spot where the promise of forever together was born. No one else knew that night, so we looked around and laughed, wondering if other people were having as special a time as we were that night. So, I just wanted to let you guys know how special you are to me...I'd recommend Via Nove to anyone for the same reason...or just to have an amazing night in an awesome place.
