Cube is a cheese-lovers dream and then some. Pasta is primo, grilled cheese is arresting and the cheese plate is a must. Meat dishes shouldn't be passed up.
My goto meal here is Prosciutto Panini and Velvet Tomato Soup and the black truffle pizza. Amazeballs!
Get your cheese fix by ordering Cheesemonger's Choice. Menu is seasonal and changes every Thursday. Also great place for wine tasting/drinking.
A Charming, Flavor-Focused Experience...BYOB – Initially I was skeptical. I really enjoy AOC and was afraid this was going to be lackluster. I was pleasantly surprised. Their presentation with their cheeses is very unique; swirls of rare honey, fruit, and nuts to accompany, and hand written names on the plates so you can remember what you're eating. Refreshingly, every week they have a new menu which focuses on a certain region of Italy. I've been here twice so far and definitely will be going back. I would call ahead for reservations, as the place is small. The atmosphere is great, dim lighting and low music create an atmosphere that focuses on the flavor experience. One downside, they do not serve alcohol, BUT, there is no corkage fee, so you can bring your own. Personally, I like this. Its fun to bring your own and it definitely makes the bill more reasonable at the end of the night.
Amazing Cheeses!!! – I recently went to Cube on a first date and I had such an amazing experience. We sat on the quaint sidewalk patio and were immediately greeted and brought out a small cheese plate of the day to give us a taste of their cheese selection and to feature one of their new cheeses. The establishment does not have an alcohol license, but they allow you to bring your favorite bottle of wine (or two!) without any corkage fees! Even with this, the customer service is still one of the best I've experienced in Los Angeles. In addition to their great selection of cheeses and their unique way of featuring them (on a black chalkboard-type plate with the names of the cheeses written on), they have a number of wonderful pastas and raviolis. I would highly recommend this place whether as a great casual date spot or a fun place to sit with friends over a bottle of wine. Definitely give it a try!!!
Cheese... YUMMY – They have an amazing selection of cheese!!! It was great! The pasta was decent but there wasn't a huge selection. And be sure to make a reservation because it gets pretty packed!
favorite casual restaurant – cube has become a favorite of mine (and my friends) for a casual lunch or fun night out to dinner. their menus change weekly and are totally seasonal/fresh which is unusual considering the low key atmosphere. i cannot imagine anyone having a less than stellar experience here--the staff is friendly and eager to recommend cheeses (they really prevent the long list of AMAZING cheese from becoming overwhelming) and there is something for everyone. last time i visited we split the green nettle gnocchi which was fantastic, as was the broken arrow ranch venison. just remember to make a reservation because they get crowded on the weekends.
Worst Pasta Ever! – To a carb freak like me, how could pasta ever be bad, so I had thought. Until I went to Cube, now I don't like to talk down on a restaurant only having tried one or two options, so I have probably had 7 of their pasta dishes. Why, because I have given this restaurant a fair number of chances, four to be exact. Each time I was with a group of friends that all wanted to go here, so I sucked it up again and again, but these pastas taste like water, I know you think I'm exagerating, but I actually suggest that you go this restaurant and you will know what I mean. The reason they get two stars instead of the obliterated one, is because my friend loves their cheese and they don't have a liquor license so you can bring your own bottle of wine. So if you like cheese, no atmosphere and byob than this is your place...
Terrible Place – The service is terribe and the food is as well....i could not figure out what was worse. Do not go to this place if you have a party of 6 or more...They split us up and would not allow us to sit next to each other....no one was in the place either so i dont see what the big deal was...Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else,
Bad service. – We used to like this restaurant and we loved the cheese as well. We made reservations for 5 people for a Friday night and we were told that they have two seatings, one at 7 pm and one at 9 pm. We requested a 7:30 time slot and they gave it to us. We arrived at 7:30 and we were completely rushed throughout our entire meal. We were served our appetizers and our main courses at the same time. One waitress kept trying to take our food when we were not finished with it!! After completing our meal, we requested our check (at approximately 9:00 pm). There was a mistake on bill and we requested that it be fixed. While the waitress went to fix it, another waiter (who had not previously served our table) came over and said that we had to move from the table because another party was waiting to be seated. We explained that we were just waiting to pay our bill and he insisted that we still move!! At that point, everyone at that table had enough ? we will not be going back!
Worst restaurant, staff, service and food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would give it 0 stars. – Cube is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life!! I have never been so disrespected, not just by our server but by the entire staff. If you have more than 6 friends do not go here, because they will split up your group into different tables and different checks so you can't mingle and most likely put one table inside and the other table outside because they are so accommodating. This deli tries to be an upscale establishment, but is nothing more than some simple cheap food that goes well with its terrible service. They also don't even have a liquor license. Please know that if for some reason you decide to go here you WILL be disappointed. Im still upset about my experience there and hope this place gets shut down. Terrible terrible terrible!!
Don't Bother Going to Cube – I went to Cube fully equipped with a beautiful bottle of wine and an open mind to try the unusual, imported cheeses I had been hearing about. The ambience was pleasant and casual, while the menu seemed basic but promising--offering an array of pastas, pizzas, and daily specials, along with a large volume of cheeses (the list is a little overwhelming there are so many). I am not sure what people are referring to when they describe a complimentary plate of cheese/fig that is served when you first sit down--I was never given this, and instead was served bland, luke warm bread with no butter or accompaniment. Wanting to taste their very best, I asked the waitress to bring us a few of their best cheeses.....and described to her what flavors and textures I enjoy. She arrived with what was a quickly scraped together plate with ity-bitty cheese slivers, a few over ripe, wrinkly grapes, two dried apricots, and two nearly stale crackers. I am not exaggerating--it was pitiful--the Trador Joes down the street would have had a better selection. One of our cheeses was infused with lavender and tasted like it had been drentched in a bottle of perfume, with another was spungy and lacked any kind of flavor. All together--it was so disappointing, and for the hefty price, we truly felt cheated. Still quite hungry, we ordered the tuna/fennel/mandarin salad and porchini mushroom parpadelle---when our $18 salad arrived, we were annoyed to find four small slivers of tuna with a spoon sized mount of shaved fennel and mandarins--probably two or three bites worth. Our parpadelle tasted as though it had come from a can--it was over cooked and lacked any kind of sophistication or freshness. It was so terrible, we took it back and instead ordered another special and the broccolini. Our waitress subsequently mixed up our order and we were instead served a fennel gratin and the broccolini. The broccolini was average, but ironically the one mistake in our dinner was actually the most delicious.
Good restaurant to bring ANYONE to – Our of all the restaurants I have been to in LA, Cube is the one that I recommend to people the most for a range of occasions -- parents are in town, first date, birthday dinner, etc. I have never had a bad experience here -- the servers are always friendly and very helpful with menu recommendations and the food is delicious. The peach caprese salad is fresh and tasty, as well as the fig appetizer. I always order a bit of the 5-year gouda as well -- it's the best cheese there. Secret tip: they are aways willing to mix and match the pasta and sauces, so if you don't like the combinations presented ask for a different pairing. And as they don't have their liquor license yet, definitely bring a bottle of wine to share. Cube is a good place to go for a fun night with friends (ask about the dining room in back), a romantic dinner, or a laid-back meal (or just cheese and appetizers!) at the bar with a friend. Enjoy!
