What Our Expert Scouts Say

Wow, what a stunning setting and an equally stunning selection of fine wines from around the globe. My favorite place is perch is at the bar on the upper level, a fine vantage point for people watching while sipping a glass of Washington merlot or French Chablis and savoring the spectacular cheese selection.

Sit at the bar during peak hours and discover something cool on the list, like a Gros Manseng.

Wow, don't miss this great experience!. We have tried many restaurants in Seattle and had honestly thought we had found our favorite place until.....we tried The Purply Cafe and Wine Bar on 4th Ave.

The service at this restaurant is not rapid but is about the best we have enjoyed. After traveling to a number of countries, we discovered that Americans tend to eat fast and fail to enjoy their dining experiences. If you let yourself, you will finally find a way to relax and really enjoy your the time you spend eating at "The Purple".

The food, well, I have eaten at the Seattle location 5 times in 3 weeks. With each visit, I tried a new cheese plate, a new appetizer, a new wine, a new main dish, and/or a new dessert. I have yet to be disappointed with any of the items I have had the pleasure to sample.

In an effort to give full disclosure, I did end have a really bad wine on one visit and decided to mention it to our server. With little hesitation, she returned to our table an offered a new glass of wine of my choosing. When we returned for another visit a week later, I described the experience to a different server as mostly a conversation opener and he suggested the bad wine experience may have been due to a bottle that had “gone bad” and recommended trying it again. Needless to say, he was correct and it turned out the wine was actually very nice.

We have definitely found a new “favorite place” in Seattle.

Terrific Lunch Spot, too!. This is a terrific spot for a reasonably prompt (and yet still civilized) lunch. If tables are unavailable, there's almost always a space or two at the bar... The bartenders are attentive and friendly, and the food service is prompt. Food itself is terrific! And indulge in dessert as the servings are small and delightful... just enough to make you feel you've indulged, but not so much to make you feel you've overindulged. A great way to cap off a busy week with a working lunch.

Great place to both have a great meal and people watch. Went to dinner there this past weekend....the food, wine, staff and other diners made for a great nite.

Thank you Purple Seattle!

great food, great wine. I walked into this place to meet some friends for dinner and drinks. Upon entering, I expected the atmosphere to be stuffy and uptight but it was just the opposite!

The wines that we ordered were all amazing and the food was spectacular.

The service was extremely slow and our server rarely checked in on us. She was very nice...maybe they just want you to relax and savor your wine? Either way, we all agreed that the service could be a bit more attentive.

We will definitely come back.

FUN & DIFFERENT. Purple is a fun restaurant for people who like small plates and sharing! The food was fantastic. Eat upstairs in the bar area as the seats are better than the dining room! Will certainly come back!

What a wonderful evening. This was our first (but not to be our last) evening at Purple. Every course was fantastic and very creative. The service was excellent. Everything was perfect!!!

Great place for people who like to share. I thought the food and wine selection was excellent at Purple. I was a little hesitant to have my birthday celebration (it was a small gathering- only 4 people) at Purple because the reviews I had heard of it were always lukewarm. I am, however, really glad that we went. The tasting bar was a great way to share and try a lot of different types of dishes. We also shared the lobster mac-and-cheese which was a great idea since it was so rich. The flights of wine worked out well because we could try a lot of different kinds and then we ended up ordering a bottle of one that we liked in the flight. All-in-all it was a good meal. The atmosphere was also really nice and we enjoyed our server. The only thing we didn?t like were the chairs. I'm kinda petite (5'3") and had a really hard time sitting in the regular dining chairs for a long time. The chairs were so high and large that my feet couldn't touch the ground and I couldn't lean back without looking like a toddler trying to sit at the big kids table. There is a lounge area upstairs at the Seattle location and those chairs looked much more comfortable for us shorter people. But other than the ogre chairs (that's why they only got 4 stars- the chairs were that bad) I would definitely recommend the place.

Best for after-work drinks. This is not the place for a quiet romantic dinner. It is basically one big reverberant room so it is always noisy and usually crowded. But for after work get togethers it is great because there's something for everyone. Work your way through their list of flights - it is a great way to find some new wines you'll like without blowing your budget. And, on the small bites menu, the salmon mousse stuffed peppers are to die for. I would like a few more offerings on the cheese list but I will say if you have not tried the Humbolt Fog, you are missing out--

Great food and wine - stay away from the bar. Really enjoyed the wine selection and food, but the experience was ruined by the female red-headed bartender. She had more atititude that New York waiters (and I live in New York). I would advise getting a table and enjoying this place (but STAY AWAY from the bar).

great place!. This is my new favorite place! They have an extensive wine list (you can get samplers!) and great food! The ambiance is great too! I highly recommend this place to hang out with friends, have good conversation. When I went, I saw a group of ladies that came in for a bachelorette party....great idea! the loft upstairs I think they called it a tasting room had the perfect place for a small party!
