Wow, what a stunning setting and an equally stunning selection of fine wines from around the globe. My favorite place is perch is at the bar on the upper level, a fine vantage point for people watching while sipping a glass of Washington merlot or French Chablis and savoring the spectacular cheese selection.
Ouch! I love this Place!!! – Just had to put in my two cents in response to the slander of my favorite downtown restuarant! I adore Purple. I adore those who have served me there; as a patron and as someone who has been a professional in the industry. There is no restaurant in downtown that spends as much effort to deliver Purple's exceptional selection, amazing ambiance, and comfortable atmosphere. I understand that serving is not an easy position. Service styles vary from person to person. The interaction from person to person is given AND recieved both ways. As a server, I tried to build a relationship with my guests in the short time I had with them. As a GUEST, I do the same. Human interaction is a socail responsibility, ESPECIALLY in a setting in which you are paying for a fellow human to serve you. I have had horrible service in this city too. But out of respect for those who work hard to make me happy in their place of business, I will not sink the ship to drown a termite. Some day there should be a Citysearch where servers can go and slander you ill behaved guests, notate their PERSONAL OPINIONS about YOUR place of employment and potentally harm the success of YOUR business and the many other employees relying on it's longevity. Until then, shame on you. You are lame and exactly why I quit this industry a long time ago.
Purple, I commend you! Congratulations on your success, I will be back!
Overpriced and stuffy – We went there for a party and were charged a lot of money for pretty standard food. The people there were pretty pretentious.
Rare Find in Downtown Seattle – After all too many disappointing restaurant experiences in downtown Seattle and Belltown, Purple is a great place . . . many wines by the bottle reasonably priced, inventive food (try the Prix Fixe menu for a bargain), friendly and efficient wait staff, a knowledgeable Sommelier, no corkage fee if you want to BYOB and a bright space with huge windows.
Good wine list, bad food. – I expected more when I visited Purple about a week ago, as I had heard good things. To my disapointment the food was lacking in flavor and I could barely have a conversation with my boyfriend who was sitting right across from me. I was closer to the gentelman at the table next to me than I was to my boyfriend.
Overrated food and service, Good wine – The food was not tasty - my husband and I love to eat all types of food - one course after another, we were disappointed. The food was over seasoned (stuffed peppers and pork appetizers - salty, too pickled, we didn't finish it) and the desserts were pretty generic, despite the fancy names. The halibut was ok, but was not memorable and not worth the price.
Our server was unresponsive - when she saw that we didn't eat half of the food, she didn't bother to ask if everything was ok. She took a long time to provide the services, but was very quick with the bill and collecting the bill. This seems like an exception though - most of the other servers/staff seemed great and on top of things.
The wine selection was good, lots of options - the cocktail menu is limited, but the lemon drops are tasty! It is a good place to grab a drink (but not eat).
The ambiance was enjoyable - it's beautiful with lots of natural light and has a modern feeling.
I?d go here again for a drink, but would not bother eating here. From what I hear, the food is notably better at the Kirkland location in comparison to Seattle, but we probably won?t bother.
Food & Service are Horrible – I used to live in Seattle and just came back to visit my girlfriends for a few days. My first day back my girlfriend and I decided to check out Purple for lunch. The space is beautiful. They have done a really great job. Unfortunately I can not say the same about either the food or the service. I ordered a Caesar Salad with Blackened Salmon. My girlfriend a 1/2 sandwich and salad. They were both horrible. How hard is it really to get grilled/blackened Salmon wrong. It was way over cooked and just dry. The Caesar was little bits and pieces of lettuce. Not at well presented and the dressing was just mayonnaise. My girlfriend was not happy either with either her sandwich or salad or the dressing. The service was even worst. It took them 1/2 hour to bring our lunch and it wasn't even busy in there. The waiter NEVER came to check on us, even once to see if everything is OK and if we needed everything. We had to hunt someone down so that they will find our waiter so that we can get our bill. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. I would think it is a nice space to go have a drink only after work. No food though!!!
Great food and atmosphere. – From the moment I entered The Purple, everything was first class. The staff, the food, and the atmosphere were a delight. The wine and cheese pairing was great and the menu extensive. The staff was attentive, but not over-bearing. All in all, this was one of my best experiences in Seattle to date. The Purple has great energy... I now have a new favorite restaurant!
Amazing customer service, outstanding food – I couldn't resist the opportunity to comment on my recent experience at the Purple Cafe. I say experience, because that is truly what it was. From the cool, hip design to the friendly service and amazing food, the Purple is a must for anybody with great taste. My husband and I were very impressed by the knowledgeable staff and wine selection. Our server made meal recommendations that were incredible- (the filet and halibut were perfection!) I would encourage anybody looking for a fun atmosphere and a great meal to try The Purple Cafe!
Terrible service, mediocre food – I work in a fine dining kitchen and normally I'm sympathetic to most restaurant problems, but tonight was frustrating. My husband and I had one of the worst service experiences ever at Purple today. It started out alright, with Tracey, our server explaining the different parts of the menu. We then ordered a wine flight and cheese and she started to remove our menus before we could tell her which entrees we wanted. She had to take the list of the wines we received, as a reference, when we both ordered glasses from the flight. It went downhill from there; plates sat in front of us, not cleared until the next course arrived. We sat without drinks for 10 minutes, not asked if we'd like another. We were ignored, while 2 other tables with more people were clearly favored. Apparently we don't look like good tippers.
Our entrees of grilled salmon and "charred" ramps were completely unsatisfying. The ramps were tough and fibrous, almost impossible to chew. The salmon was under seasoned. When my husband explained the problem with the ramps, Tracey said that she'd "had them earlier and they were fine." So much for customer service. We won't be back.
More than 300 by-the-bottle selections at this friendly downtown wine bar and cafe. – In Short
The large, airy room is dominated by a dramatic spiral staircase, winding its way around an immense 20-foot tower of 5,000 wine bottles. Floor-to-ceiling windows give a fishbowl view of Fourth Avenue. Wine is the big draw, of course: 14 flights have names like "lush and juicy" and "teethstainer," while the long list has an amazing variety of glasses and bottles. Food is upscale cafe fare, including sandwiches, pizzas, pasta and other entrees.
