not that great – I decided to check out the stone rose lounge since I live nearby, and wanted to consider bringing friends there. It was early in the evening and pretty slow, I really wanted this place to be great since it's walking distance from my apartment and it has such a great look to it, but I was greatly disappointed. The drinks are really over priced and I tried the crispy shrimp which turned out to be really bland. Also the service there was awful. i sat out at the patio and waited for a good while before i had to ask a guy walking by who worked there for a menu. Then i had to wait another long while before I could order, then she took forever to bring my check. Definitely NOT impressed.
Great place to relax – I really like this lounge! It has a great ambiance and it is a nice place to gather with friends to just relax. And the servers there are really nice.
Hate the Hollywood scene, but this place is fine – What I like is there's a decent assortment of people hanging out here, not just hipsters. I went a few times on busy nights in late '06 & '07. Only went a few times on slow nights in '08, and it was tooooo slow. So I'm not sure if it's still fun. But it's a cozy spacious place, and if you don't have an inferiority complex you won't have a problem having a B+ time or better, and do some mingling - which I find difficult at most LA places. Here it's never been a problem. I've gotten in because people think I look like someone, but can't point out who. Good they don't know or care, that I'm not what's considered "a big deal".
Bad service. – Hey Stone Rose, when you put a $150 hold on my bank account for ordering 3 drinks on my debit card maybe this is something you want to discuss with me. And then when I call to ask them about it the best they can do is say "take it up with your bank." Where I come from this is called bad service. Never going back ever for any reason.
Here's the deal...(I used to work here) – I used to work here and here is the deal regarding some of the negative comments below...
1) It's LA. This is a selective spot so if you are ugly, trashy, low class or sketchy you will have tough/impossible time getting in because we want to create a specific environment inside with the right mix of people. Notice how ALL the negative reviews are from people with door issues and therefore are probably befitting of the above descriptions. If this does not apply to you you will be admitted and like it here.
2) The "reserved" signs. If someone has made a reservation they can choose where they want to sit when they come so we do this as a precaution so when other people sit at a table (and please do!) that they may later get bumped at they are not surprised. The servers explain this. Think about it: if you made a bottle service reservation YOU would expect the same to be done for you. But until those people come (if they do at all) it is all open seating.
Bottom line is this is a great spot; on the weekdays when you want a pick-me-up low key cool night out or the weekends when you want excitement and a bigger crowd. And for summer, you CAN'T beat the patio.
Wednesday's are the best night. Very entertainment-industry, celeb sighting, young and hot but still approachable and non-intimidating or stuffy. Everyone is very friendly.
its a good hotel club/bar – went there really late on saturday with my wife. no line, and a quick conversation with the doorman and we got in. The decor is very nice, lovely outdoor cabanas, nice large fire pit. It wasn't crowded at all, the music was not that loud, and the dj was great. the place is big enough to sit somewhere that's quieter. very good mix of music, rock, hip hop etc. old songs and new ones. attractive clientele, we will take bondes in dresses over meat heads in baseball caps any day. a Johnny black on the rocks (full glass) and an amstel for $19 isn't expensive unless you drink at dives all the time. great vibe, people signin along to the music, no attitudes. its a hotel bar, not a neighborhood watering hole. i dont understand what the negative reviews are complaining about. how huge of a scene or easy of entry do you expect? we had a great time and a nice experience, and we plan on bringing 10 of our friends for a birthday soon, we will probably have a great time.
place is awful – dont even bother---the people who work the door are very obnoxious--it is not even worth your time. Esp if u are at La Cienega----tons of better places to party at.
I've been transported to Detroit ! – I came here with a group of friends (half guys/half girls) and at first the bouncer seemed as though he was going to give us a problem since we didn't have a rez -- it was just a spur-of-the-moment decision to come here. Anyway, we got in and immediately I was reminded of the clubs in Detroit that try really hard to project some notion of cool without much success. The place is huge and the DJ was really into his music (as were the scantily dressed women dancing next to him) and it was loud (we all had to huddle to hear each other). The crowd was comprised mostly of older business men, bleached blondes with clingy outfits and hip-hoppers with bling, which was almost humorous. The drinks were pricey & really strong even though I asked for mine to be mild. Dont think i'll be coming back.
Sofitel bar evolves into boutique-style lounge adjacent to Simon restaurant. – In Short
On the southeastern edge of the smartly renovated Sofitel Hotel, nightlife-proprietor Rande Gerber (Whiskey Blue at the W) has crafted this upscale hideaway. With high ceilings and large-pane windows obscurely facing the Beverly Center, the room utilizes earth-tone colors, rosewood-accents and mature deco-minded furnishings. The outdoor concrete patio features a glowing fire pit. Professional clientele and occasional celebrities stakeout upholstered club chairs or pillowed banquettes attended by a staff versed well in their knowledge of scotches, malts and wine.
Ignore Below – Apparently things have changed over the last few months. Went to Stone Rose last Friday to meet a large group and was greeted with a relatively short line by LA standards. I personally found the doormen professional and rather friendly. The space itself is breathtaking with both great design insite and an amazing atmosphere on the outside patio. The drinks were strong and well mixed, although it did take a little while to get a drink. The DJ, although tucked away, played great music and seemed to understand his crowd well. In the three+ years I have been in LA I've been to better clubs/bars but only a handful in terms of decor, environment, people, and general service. I would highly recommend Stone Rose if you want entertaining night in a great setting and will be back in the future.
