In Short – This imposing poured concrete structure on the University of British Columbia campus is host to one of the world's leading collections of the Northwest Coast First Nation. The bright Great Hall, just past the entrance, displays a mighty assortment of totem poles and canoes painted in Northwest Native American style. The museum's other rooms hold more than 13,000 artifacts, including pottery, tools, masks and textiles from around the world, in visible storage drawers.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Guided tours are offered twice daily during the summer (call for times), otherwise refer to maps for a self-guided tour.
- Save Money:
- The museum is free on Tuesday evenings between 5pm and 9pm.
- The Extras:
- Head around to the back of the museum for re-created Haida longhouses and gorgeous views of the sea and mountains. This little-known spot is great for a picnic.
