Oh where do I start. Don't ever let your kid on the team here. Yes they do produce some winning teams but at what price. The old Eastern European mentality is alive and well at Silvia's. The Dance instructor is very harsh! You are lucky if she just ignores your kid, usually she tears them apart both mentally and physically. If your child has an injury they are told they are lying and that they don't want to win bad enough and that they don't want to work hard. The coaches claim that all pain that kids have is purely mental and they just need to "work through the pain" ! Ask them how many girls in the last 4 years have had back fractures .... more than 10. Ask them how many of the level 10s ( highest level) are so disabled that it is unlikely that they will do gymnastics at the college level. Sure they have a couple of girls with full rides to college, but even they are all beat up. This is probably the toughest sport out there on the body but it can be done relatively safely if kids are treated right and doctors orders are followed. This absolutely is not the case here. If you value your child's physical and mental well being, don't let them on the team!!
They love gymnastics & kids – My daughter attend Silvia's Gymnastics & is on their team.
The coaches obviously know gymnastics and, just as obviously, love kids.
As long as you don't compare your child to others, you'll be fine.
My child is developing at a much faster rate than she was at her previous gym and she adores the coaches.
I suspect it is like this in all sports - if you compare your child to others, it makes it difficult for your child. There will always be somebody better than him/her.
I love my daughter no matter what scores she gets. And I don't care what other people think.
My son plays soccer and baseball and I see the competitiveness in many parents. I just hope I don't become one of them someday!
You may not like this place!! – Well, where do I begin.....Slivia's is a great place to go if your daughter doesn't compete. If she only does classes she will do fine. But when you put her on the competitive team then that may be a problem. She has her special gymnasts that she works with 30 hours plus a week and the rest of the team gets ok instuction. Silvia's may mean well but doesn't see that the parents get upset and then leave with their gymnast and go to another place. I wish them well and hope they correct the problem because the instuction could be wonderful if she gave it to the whloe team and not just the special ones.
