Best fun family 50's restaurant in the city – There are other diner's in Des Moines but none are as authenic 50's as Stella's, now that is just
the atmosphere and ambience, now let's get started on the food.... the shakes don't get any better or thicker than these, create your own or be daring and try one of their creations or just go for the good 'ol vanilla, chocolate or strawberry, I'm sure you will be smiling from ear to ear after the first sip saying YUMMY!
Now for those burgers, these are what I'm talkin about..... the beef is so flavorful and so juicy. The broasted chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, I'm getting hungry..... I live in Los Angeles and visit for the summer and that is one restaurant I frequent when I am there, I must say honestly there is not one 50's diner as viby and tasty as Stella's in Los Angeles.
I could just keep going on and on about Stella's but all I can say is just go on in, give it a try and you'll be saying that person was right on that review.....Enjoy!!!!! Wish I was there for a bite.
Best chocolate/banana milkshakes anywhere!! – Stella's is a wonderful place to take your family. It is a kid-friendly restaurant and loads of fun! My three children love the Stella's menu and enjoy having a milkshake poured on their head(s) at every visit. My husband and I enjoy Stella's atmosphere. The food is excellent not to mention the wonderful customer service and wait staff. Two thumbs up to Stella's-the greatest family restaurant in town!!!!
Awesome atmosphere!! Very family friendly!! Great Service – Highly recommended!! Tons of fun!! Great food!! Great service!! The kids love the singing and dancing done by the staff we all love it!! Especially how the milkshakes are individually poured if you choose, just don't move!! Have to check it out to know what we mean!! A must see!!
Fun theme – We had a great time at this restaurant. Very kid friendly, and an exceptionally entertaining and happy place. It's diner food but better: you can have good balsamic vinegar with your salad, for example, and the quality is excellently fresh. The kids got their fries in little 50's paper cars. It's popular and full of people, but with hardworking staff in period dress, it feels like a cozy place from times gone by.
Good all around dining experience – Stella's is great, whether you want a quick lunch or dinner for the family. It is where I also go when I am in the Des Moines area. The food is good and the waitstaff is friendly and eager to please. It is a great spot for kids' birthday parties. Stella's is like a celebration all the time, with its wonderful retro look. I highly recommend it.
Best Mike shakes ever!!! – I am not even a shake person, but once you've had a Stella's Strawberry
Shake your sure o go back at least once a month for one, The menu is something out of the peach pit. A very fun and inviting atmospher.
Fun and Tasty! – The food is the terrific! Great twists on favorites. Milkshakes are a must. Waitstaff is excellent! A great place for parties and celebrations. Love the music, the decor and theme. Cool retro - working jukebox and all kinds of memorabilia. If you are in the mood for diner fare, can't think of none better!
More than a meal, it's a show! Real homemade comfort food in authentic 50's style! – Delicious comfort food - meatloaf, hot turkey plate & great burgers with any topping you like and their famous Neutron sauce (spicy cheese sauce) and yummy desserts. Black & white checkered floors, real jukebox that spins 45's not CD's, authentic 1950's antiques and those chrome tables and chairs with sparkly seats like your grandparents house. They even have a photo machine to get a strip of 4 fun pictures - color or B&W - as a keepsake.
We like to sit at the counter and have a milkshake or malt - over 100 kinds and it's poured in a very special way by the servers in bowling shirts or pink dresses like Flo at Mel's Diner on TV - you have to try it yourself to believe it. The broasted chicken is awesome and the servers sing and dance to the music. Our kids can dance in the aisle to Elvis on the jukebox and they encourage kids to be kids. We love to celebrate birthdays, anniversarys - even had our company Christmas party there. It's the kinda nonsmoking place where the kids can limbo & hula hoop while mom & dad have a burger and beer or wine. They have all the sodas from the 50's - Green River, Roy Rogers... You gotta try it!
