Upscale coffee shop and wine bar with small but thoughtful lunch and breakfast menu. Had a huge cappuccino for under $4 (rare in the village) and a simple but tasty Brie and prosciutto sandwich. Would definitely stop in for wine in the evening. They even feature a few non-macro beers.

good coffee place – Great alternative to Starbucks. nice selection of soup-salad-sandwich. I had the manchego salad one time and it was SUPERB and ORIGINAL!!! nice ambien with a small selection of alcoholic beverage as well. Free WIFI, but not enough electric plugs for laptops. Hard to find parking space due to location.

nice, cosy place – Quiet, cosy place for a meeting with friends.

Always have beer or wine so can't say much about other drinks but I love the Vouvray they have:)

Had some warm sandwiches and they were very good, friends also liked their food.

Friendly staff.

I'm definitely a returning customer.

Quaint Little Villiage Coffeehouse – I find it nice to step away from the bar scene and dive into the wine scene every once and a while. Salento's offers a quiet haven to the hustle and bustle of crowded village. Assuming that you get a parking space remotely close to the place, piece of mind can be achieved by just walking through the doors. While it offers a patio, I opt for tables in the back away from most of the patrons the garner a slice of prime real estate. Whether I am having a conversation with friends, finishing an assignment, or playing spades, Salento's always offers the right atmosphere for whatever I want to do. Their desserts are spot on, their prices are reasonable, and they attract a unique crowd of people to their establishment. I feel that Salento's will be around for a while or at least I hope so!

Citysearch Editorial Review – By day, this spacious Rice Village cafe serves single-origin coffee and snacks to laptop-toting students and chattering groups of friends. In the evening, the lights dim and the space transforms into a sophisticated wine bar, complete with live music or popular tango classes and tealight candles flickering on the tables. As expected, prices for the serviceable lattes and items like spinach empanadas are subject to coffee shop inflation, although the wine is very reasonable. On a nice day, take in the Rice Village bustle from one of several sidewalk tables.

Mediocrity – It is a cozy little place. However, if you plan on studying, prepare for a future prescription of reading glasses. The lighting is terrible. I also do not appreciate the opened bottles of wine that have been opened 1-2+ days ago. The music at times is ridiculously loud. The coffee is decent, the desserts are mediocre and the food is ok.

Nice chairs...not so much the coffee or the atmosphere – The coffee was not out of the ordinary. If you are going there to study or do work, DO NOT GO AT NIGHT; they practically turn off all the lights and light the place up with candles--I wasn't able to tell if i was putting sweetner or sugar in my coffee, let alone read my book. Good place if you want to just talk, although it is a bit congested and you may be sharing your conversations with strangers; and that in itself ruins the mood that they are trying to set by dimming the lights. I do agree with the "faux yuppie hangout" comment, which may explain the dimming of the lights and the wine menu in a coffee shop, but i would still go there if I wanted to just sit down and talk. Better alternatives exist.

My favorite Saturday morning respite – After walking the loop around Rice I head straight to Salento for my morning coffee and breakfast sandwich. Sitting in front at Salento's, people watching and sipping my coffee Saturday morning is something I look forward to. The tango sandwiches are the best and go just perfectly with my cappuccino.

Salento- a faux yuppie hangout with sour coffee and a poor liquor selection – These previous positive review must have been written by the Salento staff, as they are detached from the reality of this supremely creepy spot and its faux yuppie vibe.

Salento place is best avoided with extreme prejudice. While marketing itself as cozy place to exchange ideas, their Kenny G music selection & grating elevator jazz blare at full blast. Meanwhile every table is set up for two people, with no large places for groups to congregate, while the poor lighting obscures reading.

Worst of all, their coffee is bitter and acidic, as if somebody spiked it with Zest soap. I have tried various dark roasts from all over the world, and believe me, their blend tastes burnt- so much so that the sour aftertaste is accompanied by lingering heartburn.

When I walked up to politely address my concerns regarding the sour coffee, they informed me that my palate wasn't refined enough to enjoy their Columbian dark roast. A shop with even half an ounce of customer service would have brewed a fresh cup or offered a refund, but their snarky staff laughed it off like we couldn't understand their genius brewmaster technique.

Their beer selection is weak, with just Heineken, Shiner Bock, and Corona. Couldn't they include a more diverse (or quality) selection?

If you like the pseudo-creepy vibe from the over 35 business crowd sipping wine in crew neck sweaters, while Michael Bolton blares over the speakers interrupting a lousy cup of java, this is the hot spot for you.

This place is so bad it makes Starbucks look like a true Renaissance salon.

Excellent coffee, nice place to study – The service is as good as the coffee. For a cold drink, try the Mocha Frappe: very good. They have some interesting events in the evenings, from science discussions to tango dance. Parking can be a problem sometimes, but it's a nice little place.
