Not Just Another Gallery – If you're looking to view some art and willing to think outside the box, then the Phillips Collection is totally worth the price. Not only does this museum house some beautiful, classic pieces from artists like Manet and Renoir, but it features more contemporary, unknown artists with very unique pieces. Some of the art may require you to really open your mind, but why not? Phillips After 5 is also a nice event to check out on Thursdays when you get out of work but want to break away from the standard happy hour routine. Try something like wine or bourbon from featured sellers of that night, nosh on some hors d'oeurves, and just take your time soaking in the creativity. Your brain will thank you.

A private collection gem in the sea of Smithsonians – t just keeps getting better and better. A friend of mine from France said that, when "The Boating Party" was loaned to a Paris museum (from the Phillips), lines to see it were blocks and blocks long. The French stood in front of it and cried. That story really gave me a new appreciation for "The Boating Party" in particular (am not usually a big Renoir fan) and also for the collection as a whole. Always a surprise - and a comfort at the same time. And who could not like the mansion setting, especially when there are live concerts there on Sunday afternoons.

Citysearch Editorial Review – Unlike many museums, The Phillips Collection feels comfortable and homey--no surprise as the founder began the collection in his home. The museum encompasses the original family home and a few adjacent buildings, letting visitors enjoy Pablo Picasso in the parlor before gazing at Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s masterpiece, "Luncheon of the Boating Party." The breathtaking collection includes a wide range of art, from Impressionist Vincent van Gogh to modern sculptor Alexander Calder. Benches and seating arrangements in most of the galleries encourage visitors to relax and enjoy the art, interacting with each other and the space. Recently, the museum launched its Intersections project, inviting modern artists to create contemporary works especially for the gallery that react to the more historic pieces and architecture.
