oregano's pizza bistro – On Thursday the 11th of November at 6:30 p.m, my boyfriend and I went on a double date with our two friends to Oregano’s Pizza Bistro on Southern Ave. and Dobson Rd. Upon our arrival, we were told the approximate wait time would be 45 minutes by the metro-sexual host. We were then sat at a cozy table large enough to seat a family of 6 comfortably. To start off our meal, an order of 9 “wong” wings was brought to us within 10 to 15 minutes. Steam issued off of the wings as we each took a bite of oregano sprinkled, honey-glaze drizzle freshly made chicken wings. The honey sauce melted as soon as it hit our mouths and the oregano bits added an Italian taste to the wings. To follow this heavenly chicken delight was a pan pizza topped with pepperoni and sausage, which took approximately 45 minutes. The pizza was piled sky-high with toppings, the mozzarella cheese was stringy and steamy, yet the dough of the pizza seemed to overwhelm the entirety of it all. It was fluffy and dough-like, almost as if it could’ve been cooked a tad bit longer. The crust was, however, crispy and golden-brown, the pepperoni had a little kick to it yet not in-your-face, and the sausage was a calming sensation to the pepperoni. To end our grand meal was a chocolate chip cookie warm and gooey, freshly baked and topped off with sweet vanilla ice cream. Together the two made a perfect combination to fulfill that sweet tooth that we were all craving. Our server made for a memorable experience as well, laughing at our jokes and charades and refilling our drinks whenever they were half empty. All in all, the pizza was great because of the toppings and the cookie to end the meal, as well as the night, made for an enjoyable time with friends and loved ones at Oregano’s Pizza Bistro.
Turn down the music! – The food is great; the service is great; the atmosphere could be great -- but the music is so loud you can't hear your server or the person sitting next to you. I like my music loud in the right settings, but this is a place you want to go with your friends to chat and relax and have a fantastic meal. It's my favorite restaurant for lunch, except invaribly when I suggest it at work, someone will say, "Oh, let's not go there, we can't talk!" The manager has told us on several occassions that this is the most common complaint he receives. However, the owner is the one who sets the music level and the staff cannot change it. The restaurant on University is actually not so bad, but the one in Mesa is ridiculous. One thing about the Mesa restaurant -- you never have to wait at the lunch hour for a seat -- at least I've never had to. As good as the food is, there must be another reason!
great family place – I have heard about oreganos from that az morning show with lisa haffner. She raved about it one time they were on the show, and they had brought some food on to tase...OMG it looked so good I never forgot the name of that resturant.
So yesterday was our first time going. We have two children 2 and 4 yrs old, so we are always hesetant of dining out...if you have kids you know what I mean. We were seated right away, the whole staff was there to greet us, all smiles and GREAT attitudes! We ordered, MMM and then We ate MMM MMMM MMMMM MMMM MMMMM I had the lasagna, yes I took half home, but it was OSODELICIOUS..:)
and My kids were so behaved. It was the first time ever that they actually sat there and liked it. They brought out some doe for them to play with and the music kept my daughter happy. I was so pleased. And we have to wait 30-45 minutes for the lasagna dish, because it's fresh, so we were in the resturant for over an hour possible almost two, I wasn't really counting it was to much fun. I will definetly be returning!
THE BEST RESTAURANT – Oregano's is my favorite restaurant in town. I start jonesing after about a 10 day absence. I have not experienced a dirty waiting area....has to be the ticked off people having to wait to get in, but a wait is a sign of a good restaurant. If you frequented this place often, you would know that to get in without a wait, you have to go at off hours...that's how popular this place is. The food is fabulous ( prepare for 2-3 meals out of your serving), and the price is so cheap, it's unbelievable. Try the Big Kahuna Tuna, and for an appetizer, the Guacatoni can't be beat. I hear the pizza is fabulous, but I can't get off the tuna sandwich.
The staff not giving a darn??? Hard to believe. They are so friendly, they sit and hang out with me a little bit and tell me what's new with them and ask me the same. If you don't like a friendly staff, find a different restaurant.
Never Going Back – I have been to Oregano's once and it will be my last. The place when we first walked up was dirty and so was the wait area. The A/C was inefficient. It seemed to just give hot air even after being there for about the 45 minute wait before our pizza was served. The waitress was very rude and was not interested to help out, she'd rather have been sitting chatting with her friends. The manager was sympathetic but did little to help out. We will definitely not be going back.
