Best Thai in Portland, Seriously! – Food is excellent. Many reviews seem to focus n Pad Thai as though that is some gold standard by which one can judge a Thai restaurant. Seriously, try to be touch more curious. Indeed Halo's Pad Thai is nothing to rave about but nearly everything else on the menu is fantastic and far more interesting and flavorful than a pile of pan fried noodles. Whether you eat meat or not, try the tofu with your order, its texture and flavor is great. If you eat fish, order some and ask if there is a special. The very friendly owner takes pride in his fish dishes. Also try the ginger tea!!!

undercooked noodles, wierd pad thai flavored sauce – tried this place when they opened and service was slow, food not cooked correctly and lo and behold years later...thought we'd give em another chance but same thing. Was 1/3 full with most diners finishing up and still took 15 min to get a salad roll. Now, this is ok if they are making everything fresh and very well but the Pad Thai was chewy (undercooked noodles) and some weird flavor to the sauce that wasn't a nice peanut sauce that curiously enough they actually make and are deservedly known for.... it's delicious. The salad rools say "4 pieces" which means they cut one up into 4 so 3.95 for actually only one is not such a great deal. Two other Thai restaurants on Alberta and Thai Noon is best value with good, consistent food. Server was really nice and friendly.

Best Thai in Portland – In the end, it's all about the peanut sauce. Seriously. I would go there just so I could drink that stuff. The owner (at least, I'm assuming he's the owner) is really sweet, too, and a very attentive waiter. The restaurant has low lighting, but not too dim, and a cozy atmosphere. Never gets too loud. Highly recommend.

Great experience and delicious food – I went with Ken and a couple of friends, then we went back again for our special date night.

I again ordered some of the most delicious meals for my board retreat and now we are going back them with my colleagues for a dinner.

It is very clean, the service was very good and the owner was very nice and "jovial"

Don't go on third Thursday! – I had never been to Halo Thai before, and I can't say I will ever be willing to go again. Granted we were there during third Thursday, when Alberta is a complete zoo, but both the service and the food were so terrible that I cannot even imagine going back. It took forever for the one poor waitress to take our order and well over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did come, it was barely edible. My husband said it was the worst pad thai he'd even had. Considering that pad thai is pretty much all he eats at Thai restaurants, that's saying a lot. Oh, and then we both got sick from the food. Maybe it's better during slow times, but my stomach can't bare to find out!

Excellent for spicy food lovers: delicious and affordable. – I was recommended this restaurant by a fiery-food eater, so I rounded up another fan of the heat and we tried it out. This was an early evening dinner early in the week, no lines and not very many people inside. We had two beers, an appetizer, two entrees for around thirty bucks. Fairly good value, and I'm looking forward to lunch here. Be warned, these people mean business when they ask you how hot you want it. Until you know their limits you would do better to go with a medium heat and dress it up with the fresh chili sauce, otherwise it might be a little much. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but I will probably do take-out next time anyway: while we were there about 10 people picked up orders at the counter. Our waitress was very attentive, although it isn't too difficult to manage 4-5 tables - who knows what a busy night is like. My only gripe is the appetizer - they said four rolls, and we got two cut in half. That's still only two rolls, people... Maybe you want to cut 'em in half again and then you can say I get eight?

All said and done, the heat was great. I rarely get to experience that much flavor with that much fire, but the balance of spices was spot-on. We got a red curry and a noodle dish, and they were both excellent. The preparation and presentation were workman-like, but the taste was what really stood out. If Typhoon! could turn out food this delicious, their prices would be justified. Surprisingly, the food I took home from this meal was even better the next day (and just as spicy!)

Yes, and yes again! – Just two things I have to say:

1. I was so bored with pad thai I hadn't ordered it in years -- until I went to Halo Thai in a rush one night and asked for it almost by mistake.

2. The pad thai and yellow curry were so good that I went back for takeout the very next night -- couldn't stop thinking about it all day.

mediocre thai food - Nothing was necessarily terrible, but the atmosphere isn't great and the food isn't memorable.

best thai in portland – this is our favorite thai restaurant in portland - i crave the green curry and red curry noodles! be careful how spicy you order though - they don't mess around with the heat - we ordered it "very spicy" and although quite tasty, we could barely eat it. "spicy" is still very hot if you like extra heat. the owner is very pleasant and the service is excellent every time. the quality of the food is exceptional - very complex thai flavors and the price is right too. overall, i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves thai!

Great Thai food - we're addicted! – We love Thai food, and after a bad experience with the rude owner of Thai Noon, we looked elsewhere. We've never looked back.

The salad rolls are incredibly fresh with a wonderful peanut sauce for dipping. The pad-see-ew is phenomenal. But the best thing to try is chicken satay. It's the most tender, slightly flavored chicken we've ever had. Plus, it's consistantly good.

The owner whom we've met several times has always been quite pleasant, along with the waitress who is usually there on the weekends. They've bent over backwards to make sure we had a good meal - including adding extra veggies into my pad thai.

Disregard the negative comments and give this place a try. Five stars from us!
