Fun, fun, fun!!! – I feel so very safe at Purr...non of the other gay bars are nearly as CLEAN, friendly and a bit sophisticated. The bartenders are efficient and very sweet. I really like the hamburgers and nachos (I haven't had anything else on the menu). This place is packed with ambiance and charm. I would be proud to take anyone there; straight or gay. Weekends are bizzaar...much laughter, quality drinks, good food and a wait staff that is charming and dutiful. No need to wait for a drink...the staff is all over your needs. Barbie...you have done a wonderful job here! Please...don't let it faulter!

$$$ – I like just about everything about Purr, except that the drink prices are rediculous. Drinks run about $8 to $10 for well drinks, $12 or so for call. I still go there, but not as frequently. Who can afford it in this economy....

Barbie's gettin' greedy, boys and girls! – Purr's a decent bar compared to the competition, but then there really isn't much competition in the non-daddy, non-leather sector. Most all of the staff is nice except for a couple of the younger male bartenders who think they're the bee's knees because they're slinging poorly made (and often incorrectly made) drinks (wait 'til they get a bit older -- a 40 year old bartender ain't a pretty sight -- head off to CCs to confirm and lose the attitude -- you know who you are). Actually, some of them are fake nice like Barbie so that's better than openly hostile but most staff is generally nice and accomodating. The place is clean, for the most part although the staff gets overrun on the weekends and the men's room smells like an outhouse in a Mexican barrio. The owner, Barbie Humphrey, frequently increases the prices to where a martini costs $10 now. That's right, $10 for a martini that could be either very good or very bad depending on who happens to be making it -- and don't dare bring it back if you don't like it if you get one of the surly ones. I guess it's fine since people will pay it so more power to her. Food is mostly crappy and overpriced, especially the 4 taquitos for $8.95 that are identical to the frozen kind you can get at Costco for $10 for like 50 of 'em. Shameful. Nachos are good value though so props for that. Oh, and I don't even want to think about that gut-wrenching, stomach turning $10 hamburger. Nasty. Barbie, can't you do a bit better than that? We know you love to eat. So why not start putting some food out you'd want to eat that would be a good value? Or just take the cheapo frozen like the taquitos off the menu? What's next, fish sticks? It's insulting. Don't take us for granted... we're fickle and most of us will be gone as soon as the next place opens unless you and your staff instill some loyalty. It's good you take care of your staff -- how about some respect for your customers? It starts at the top, honey.

Same Ol' Lame Ol' On the hill – Funny how every bar you go to on the hill you here alittle sniff in the bathroom. Funny thing this time, it was a staff member. Won't go back. Bartenders/managers think they are hot...almost.

Nice place to hang with friends or... – I've been several times and have enjoyed myself there. Last time it was a mix of people predominately gay men but womyn and straight couples as well. For some reason that night with the music and the brick walls as well as it being narrow it reminded me of Tuggs Belltown the look not the ambiance (you would have to be gay in Seattle in the 80's to remember Tuggs) but this was a little trendier. The drinks have been good in what I have ordered and enjoyed the music though my partner doesn't really care for the place. Would recommend to bring friends or go to before going out somewhere else for dancing or something. Liked the artwork done on cardboard boxes a different approach.

BEST BAR and BEST GUEST SERVICE IN SEATTLE ! ! ! – Barbie Humphrey opened Purr two years ago after having managed Manray for several years. Many Seattlites in the straight and LGBT community have long considered Barbie to be the quintessential and perhaps the best bartender in Seattle. She has a special way of acknowledging everyone who crosses the threshold of her door in a manner that elevates them from a 'customer' to a 'guest' and honestly makes you feel as if she sincerely cares that you have made the choice to visit her establishment.

Barbie has been able to train her staff - from the current manager Rock (and popular bartender), to longtime bartenders Liz, Kevin, Paula, and Greg, just to name a few - in her image. If they are busy and there is a line, you are always acknowledged with a smile and at least you know that you will be served promptly - someone knows and cares that you are there waiting in line. You rarely see this anywhere else in Seattle.

Now, let's talk about the drinks. The Purr signature cocktails are to die for. Rockmapolitan - Rock's twist on the cosmo - muttled limes, Absolut Ruby - and his secret ingredients - is tart and sweet at the same time, served in a tall glass on the rocks! Liz's signature is her orange drop, where she muddles fresh oranges, adds a flavored vodka and some other ingredients. Again, a fantastic twist on an old classic.

I have always had nothing but the absolute BEST service from top to bottom at Purr and applaud Barbie and her staff for a job well done. You owe yourself a stop by on the weekend, or try Karaoke on Tuesday. Thursdays are busy, as well. They also have one of the best burgers in town. In fact, I have found all of the food to be excellent.

I have brought many of my straight friends into the bar and they have not been intimidated by the atmosphere one bit. It is a friendly mix of gay, lesbian, and straight with a definite lean towards gay men, but friendly and inviting to all.

Oh My God! – Straights too? Are you kidding not at this place? Besides the weak drinks, poor service, disgusting bathrooms (someone threw up on the toilet seat and it had been there long enough to dry up) all just to be part of the ?in crowd?. I wouldn?t go back.

This fun, laid-back Capitol Hill bar keeps the crowd blissfully purring seven days a week. – In Short
Known as the gay bar where queer-friendly folks can also hang, evenings at Purr are anything but monotonous. This lively lounge offers a full-service bar, upbeat music, dimmed lighting, cozy booths and couches, and relaxed atmosphere made easy to strike up conversations. During the weekends, patrons may stumble on a gaggle of good-looking boys--bartenders included--from whom they might learn a pick-up line or two.

sad excuse – If you want to be in the scene and don't mind over-priced, poorly made drinks and the lazy staff and poor service, this is the place for you.
