Great place for vintage engagement rings – My fiance bought my vintage engagement ring at this cute store in Chelsea after scouring New York City's vintage and estate jewelry stores.
The staff was great and the owner was simply amazing, helpful and appears to be very knowledgeable.
We just stopped by the other day to try to meet with the owner one last time and saw a new batch of gorgeous engagement rings -- including art deco. They have white gold, yellow gold and platinum rings. The owner said they get new ones almost every week.
Really, a great store with great staff.
Pippin Vintage Jewelry Welcomes You – No - we are not reviewing ourselves BUT wanted to refute the "review" of Vermillionecho. This unkind and untrue review was written by a young man who worked for us for a few months. He just wasn't a good fit for our store and we had to let him go. His comments are mean spirited and reflect the hurt he must have felt when we had to fire him. His remarks referring to Reverie are equally nasty. Alison's creations are sheer genius. Please read a range of reviews for our store on YELP. We are much loved and hope you will disregard the words of a disgruntled ex-employee. We are very proud of our little store and hope you'll come visit soon! Rachel & Steve Cooper - owners of Pippin Vintage Jewelry and Pippin Home
Honestly? – I walked into this "boutique." AC was the only thing to brag about. I found a bunch of Mardi Gras beads, a tired security guard looking at my cleavage, and a staff including two young girls who were not fond of their jobs. They looked at the time constantly and did not offer a cent of expertise or advice on the jewelry they were selling. One immature girl kept on raising her eyebrows and elbowing the bimbo next to her. I wanted a diamond ring and was willing to pay up to 4K on it yet there was no interaction nor was there any knowledge. I also examined a hefty bracelet-priced at $150 and falsely advertised as sterling silver, I could see the copper showing through. I considered a final item and was let down immediately when the bimbo tried offering her own line of jewelry - Reverie, which were trinkets I could find at a Cake Walk. Overpriced and shoddily-constructed, mediocre pieces that my 1st grade student could've made. I hold dear to the idea that customer service is the most important aspect of a business. If Pippin would look at the bimbo trying to kick them under the bus, she would not be working there. Honestly a poor character to have on staff. I left in high dudgeon, even the AC on a NYC summer day was not enough to keep me in that rummage sale. And by the way, I found the perfect ring at Showplace Antiques on 25th.
Whoa my attitude! – These folks apparently value themselves very highly because their time is priceless, at least when you ask for shipping. I live across the country and asked to have a $40 item shipped to me and I was met with the snarky, rude answer "That's just not worth our time!" When I offered to pay whatever personnel costs they might incur he raised up on his throne and snapped back, "I said no!" If you're going to visit be prepared for attitude and drama. Although I had a nice visit I think I'll be sticking to eBay and local shops that understand the idea of customer service.
This Chelsea vintage shop features funky jewelry and home wares at garage sale prices. – In Short
Pippin is actually two stores in one: Pippin Jewelry in the front and Pippin Home in the back. All merchandise comes from New England estate sales, which means surprisingly low prices, even on a block known for its thrift stores. Silk flowers and mirrors in gilded frames decorate the jewelry store, while the home store has more humble decor. Vintage jewelry (costume jewelry, charm necklaces, etc.) sit in labeled dresser drawers, while affordable treasures in the back include cookware, rugs, furniture and more.
