Some of the best and cheapest empanadas in the city. I favor the cheesesteak and the Cuban too.

Empanada Mama makes many different varieties of above-average empanadas, both fried and baked, and all of them are cheap. They're great to grab on the go, but I like to get a dozen different ones, as one might at a donut shop, and set them out at a party or for the game. My own favorite is the fried beef empanada, which is enjoyably greasy and piquant.

Quick and Good! – Empanadas are very tasteful and one should try their dessert Empanadas as well, good prices...small area!

Skip the Diner, Best Late Night Eats in Midtown West – Whether you’re looking for a cheap lunch, a multi-course dinner, or a late night snack, a la carte empanadas are always a good choice, and with the variety offered at Empanada Mama, there is a fix for every craving, and a fresh glass of sangria to wash down every fix. Oh and did I mention they’re open 24 hours a day?

Best Empanadas – This is the favorite lunch spot at the office. Whenever we have a lunch meeting, or if a small group wants to treat themselves to deliciousness, we rely on empanada mama. This place has, hands down, the best empanadas in NYC. Everytime I go my coworker and I share the steak dish with rice and beans, and of course, we have to have the crunchiest most perfect tostones ever.

Some complain that service is a bit slow, but I don't go there for service, I go there for the food! Highly recommend this place, but not if you're with a group greater than 3 people.

Great Empanda, HORRIBLE SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE – Ive eaten at Empanada Mama about a million time and I love the food there so much. The taste of anything there is to die for.

Just make sure that you order your food to go. Setting foot in the restaurant is already a balancing act. Trying to walk down the small bit of space they havent crammed a guest into is hard. Then getting stared at by the hipters that frequent the place is even better. I really dont know why I get stared at for bumping into someone ACCIDENTLY. They should be the one apologizing for leaving thier un-showered odor on me for days after.

But I digress....

Seriously just plan on knowing exactly what you want before sitting down at thier tables becuase your waitor or waitress will NOT be back for at least 20 minutes after you get your menu. Oh youll see your server, the place is only about 20 feet long, but even if theyre serving the table next to you they will IGNORE you.

Monday (6/26) I was in there with friends from out of town. Thought id take them out on the town for some really great food. My waitress could not have been more rude. Not only did it take 30 minutes to get out first drink, it was another 20 before our order was taken. I actually went to the counter, did a take out order and had that in hand (bag) before my waitress came back with the food we had ORDERED.

Again, I love the food here. But if you like your sanity, stay away from eat-it.

PS - Some of these reviews HAD to have been written by staff/ownership. No one I know EVER has a good experiance inside this restaurant.

Recommand to everybody – You can't believe the varieties of the empanadas at this place. I tried most of them and thought all are good, but of course I have a all-time favorite and that is Viagra (don't laugh). Check out their menu on line. I will recommand this place to everybody. Good food and not pricy at all.

Cheap and Delicious--Try the Yucca – Amazing selection of empanadas, from the traditional (pernil) to the not-so-traditional (pepperoni pizza or the TJC- tuna, jalapeno and cheddar), but they're all great and you're bound to find something you like. The yucca fritta is also amazing and a must for any of my visits. I've been recommended their soups for authenticity as well. And the price point is great (around $3 per empanada).

Service can leave something to be desired but no one should walk in here expecting the world. I hope they expand soon (only seats maybe 20 or so right now) so lunchtime and dinnertime waits are a thing of the past!

Had it not been for the service, would have given it 5 stars – First off, the food is fantastic! inexpensive, delicious. the service has left much to be desired on several occasions. they get very busy in the evenings and this is a very small place. they try to shove you in the first available table whether you want it or not. was told once "i think you should take this table" It was a table for 2 and there were three of us. if we are willing to wait for a bigger table I shouldnt have to take a smaller table.

Right after that a table for 4 opened up and they insisted that other people were waiting so we couldnt have that table- again trying to stick us at a smaller table when we were next in line. its not as if the people waiting after us was a party of 4, they were a party of 3 as well! We were told that "a lot of people were waiting" which was not true. one waiter complaining to another waitress there says "they just dont believe us" Then a manager type who according to him had "just got there" asks us "what are you ordering" to which we responded "food".

Final result was- we were seated at the table of four, received the wrong appetizer and got our tostones once we had already finished our meal. but the food is good despite the initial heartache.

Good Food! Chill place for dinner with friends! – Empanadas are delicious. Cheap and affordable. Great sangria. Good place to go for casual dining with friends.

The service can be slow at times, but the music is pumping and the food makes up for it.

Food is good and a decent value but service is a 2 at best!!! – Yes, the food is good but sometimes it's just not worth the wait. The staff is la-di-da, and you have to remind them of your order otherwise you'd never leave. Don't get me wrong they're quick to take the order and your money but after that.... who are you? and what did you order?

What also surprised me was that they don't make thier own dough, they use the Goya discs you can get at your local bodega (disappointing!). I guess there is no substitute for homemade empanadas like the "home-made" empanadas you can find in Jackson Heights.

I like Empanada Mama for my own reasons. You'll like it for yours. But I like agreement. You? – No, it's not brunch, but it's something I'd usually rather do of a Sunday. Dine in. I cannot say this enough. I like reading other people's newspapers. Someone's usually got one. I find that eating three or so empanadas from Empanada Mama is about as auspicious and 'soul'-satisfying a way to start off a day during which I will accomplish nothing as any other way. More so. And if I had ambition, as I'm supposed to, I believe these empanadas would still tickle me from tap to tip. No-one has mentioned the standard-setting shredded beef empanadas (the first item on the menu) with the bubbliest skins. I like them best; I get two of those and then one I've never had before, or a different one, or something like that. Fun facts: 1) The last time I was here, someone came in alone and ordered six (6!) empanadas. And a Corona. 2) Once, an extra empanada appeared with my wife's and my order. Delicious. We were charged for it. 3) Another time, the B-52s' first record was on. The whole thing. Pretty good sound system. Unusual draw. It got up to 'Lava' by the time we left. Probably no-one else cared, but I was chuffed.
