Run to this restaurant – Do yourself a favor and eat here. It's not terribly consistent but if you get the right chef you will love the food. Great wine selection, really good service for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. (that's when I go) They serve organic produce and beef from grass fed cows in the Hudson Valley and they really care about quality. They are involved in the community and are very friendly owners. It's a neighborhood gem!! Keep it up and I will be a good and steady customer at this establishment.
Disappointing – We went to this place to use a promotional coupon we bought.
The place was full. The faces of the guests weren't exactly an inspiration... at least 4 tables didn't get the menu and people was waving hands asking for a menu or some service.
Since it was busy, I decide to give them a chance and be patient.
They acknowledge me and my girlfriend aprox. 12 minutes after our arrival to the place.
We didn't have reservation and didn't complaint, even when they have few open tables. Also they asked us if we had a coupon, we said yes, and they said "off course you do", meaning "everybody is here with coupons".
After 25 mins we got a little table outside, that I have to fix myself using a paper menu, since nobody was there to assist us.
Our waiter came to the table around 10 mins later. We already knew what will we have for dinner and to drink.
We let him explain the specials.
We order a couple of appetizers, one special and my partner a Trout from the menu.
We also order a bottle of wine.
By that time the restaurant was getting quiet, by anyways wine took another 15 minutes to get to the table. I tasted the wine and told the server that it this (red) wine tasted spoiled or was hot and needed to be chilled a bit. He just poured the glas and said "let it chill with the air.
He poured my girlfriend a glass and took the bottle (that we order), meaning that we wouldn't see the bottle/wine again.
The trout we order was 86ed (not available) so we changed for the salmon special with similar preparation.
It was beautifully decorated but totally flavorless.
Cons: short in staff, the guest is who end up paying the price of bad service and quality.
Will give a second try in a year if they are still around.
An experience to forget. – Went last night and was a nightmare to get a table.
The service was really slow and poor.
The food took 30mins to get to the table.
I'm a neighbor and probably will never come back.
Five of the WORST meals we've ever had – I've heard legend of horrible restaurant experiences but could not imagine this trifecta - weak service, absent management and unappetizing food. The five of us were eagerly anticipating a good meal but were sadly surprised that the hostess greeted us, told us to wait 10 minutes and proceeded to disappear for 50 minutes. We watched other potential parties arrive and experience a complete lack of management. Needless to say, many left, smartly opting to avoid the weak service. Granted, the waiters smiled at us but, were not helpful.
At one point, one of us helped ourselves to a cookie and left $1 as there was no one there to take our money. Pathetic! We asked a waiter for the manager and was told he was downstairs.
We ran into friends who read good reviews, were granted a table for two and also dined at PicNic Market (more about them later).
We were seconds away from leaving when the manager came upstairs and said "I'm so sorry. Please let me buy you a round of drinks. I will make certain your are cared for." So we sat and about 3 minutes later... watched the manger and the hostess leave PicNic, never to be seen again. Are you kidding us?
We ordered french toast (burnt), pancakes (also burnt), a hamburger and fries (bland and tepid), a cassolet (tasted like franks and beans), a frittata (which my friend who can't cook could have made at home) and a goat cheese omelette (not seasoned).
But before we ate, our friends, having eaten their meal, paid and left. We asked them how it was ... "eh, mediocre"... which, was actually a better meal than our own.
Yes, they gave us free mimosas but we had to ask for silverware FIVE times before we got any. We finally got it an hour later when our meal arrived.
Recap: 45 minute wait + 10 minutes before our order was taken + 60 minutes until we were served + 20 minutes before our check arrived.
Avoid this place at all costs. and If you mistakenly find yourself at PicNic Market, when the management is not present at YOUR meal, leave!
Nice ambience, fresh ingredients and friendly service. – Although Picnic doesn't boast an extensive menu, what they do have is sure to delight. Ingredients are fresh and dishes are expertly prepared. While the restaurant is small, the ambience is very nice, and the service is always friendly. I love this place.
