This place rocks!! – I needed to have my mothers wedding dress majorily restored for my parents 40th anniversary.
Sarah ( I think) helped me with this project. She took painstaking time and effort to repair the frail lace and sequines and then had it professionally cleaned and preserved in a cardboard boustierre.
I had the dress mounted on a mannequin Sarah loaned me from her shop just for this occasion.
Needless to say, the dress was the topic of the party in its full regalia.
I was told by many other friends of my mother that Sarah is the best one in town, I saw it proved it for myself, customers service took a new meaning for me,
Highly recommend this place!!
Great people, excellent service – I read the reviews before going there as we just moved here from California.
I took in my heavy parka jacket to have the zipper repaired, the gentleman who was there, he appeared to be the owner waited on me.
Being from Southern California, this was the only coat I had, on a cold blustery day, I was outta luck,
He asked me to wait while he got us some coffee, then he went back and replaced the thinggmajig that slides up and down the zipper to close it.
Zipper worked great, price was reasonable, the business was reminiscent of a small town family owned establishment where he seemed to know everyone that came in by their name.
WIll definetly be back and recommend to others
Terrific service and people – We were in town from Fredonia for a New Year's wedding. the owner of the store, forget his name, went way out of his way to attend to all the stressed out members of our family who all had multiple issues with Tuxes, Bridesmaid dresses that didnt fit well from the place we bought them in KC.
He and couple of seamstress stayed with us, way past the closing time on new years eve, made sure every item was fitting just the way we wanted, steam pressed and ready to wear for the big day.
The place was humming with people coming and going constantly, he dint seem to break a sweat dealing with multiple issues at the same time.
Prices were a bit higher then we were used to paying for our seamtress back in Fredonia, but what the heck, this is a big city comparitively speaking and we were glad to pay them/
Highly recommend this place for emergency and all other kinds of work
Lost my slacks – Took 2 brand new pants in to be hemmed. They lost my pants and more than a week after they were due they STILL have not found them. No explanation, no compensation.
They said they would "call" when they were found. Am I to wait a year? A month? I try and call, no answer, when I stop by they "have to talk to the manage" who is NEVER there.
I will not use again.
Great work!!! good people – My daughter needed to have her dress done for prom in a pinch. They came through for us, the store closed at 6:00 bu they stayed later then their hours to finish the work dresses. Highly recommend them, I believe they have in business the longest in town
superb service! – Had a wedding party this past weekend, my bridesmaids arrived the day before on Friday, 2 of them needed shoulders adjusted, we called around, none of the places could answer our request in English, till I googled alterations and found Sarah's. I called, wasnt expecting a man to answer, but he was polite, well spoken and stayed later then his shop hours to alter these dresses.
Price was very reasonable, and dresses came out perfect.
When we went to pick up the dresses, the gentleman had a nice card for me and took time out to make sure everything was in order, The store was packed with people coming in and going all the time, I was told that Sarahs is the longest running tailor shop in town.
I would certainly recommend this place
Always Pleased with Work done Here – I have been sewing all my life and there are just some things I don't like to do or don't have the time. I have had several things done at this location and have been extremely pleased. I feel sorry for the lady who wasn't satisfied with her wedding dress or the bridesmaid dress, but why didn't they take them to the bridal shop the clothing was bought at and have it done there?
I have had several family weddings in recent years and have not known a bridal shop that wasn't available for fittings and such. Their prices are generally higher, but that is all they do is wedding apparel. Maybe you were expecting too much for a "drop-off" place.
I have always been pleased with Sarah's.
Don't do it... – I was highly disappointed with the quality of workmanship that my dress received. A friend recommended Alterations by Sarah so I figured I would try it out with a bridesmaid dress. When I brought the dress in the lady that initially helped me was clueless. My dress was huge on me so I figured it would be obvious as to what needed to be done (shorten the length and bring the sides in so the dress would stay up- it is strapless) but she had no idea of what to do. When I went in the second time they were going to hand me the dress to pay for without trying it on- which I then suggested and I'm glad I did! They took too much off the length and the top was at least two inches away from my chest. So they took it back again. When I went in the next time they had sewn a part of the dress on the inside to the wrong side. Seriously?! They quickly fixed that. However, the quality of the hem looks like a first grader did it and the price was OUTRAGEOUS for how many mistakes they made. I'm all about paying for quality but this place lacked it. Never again and I would not recommend them. The only positive thing I can say about the place was the lady who helped me the last two times when I went in was very nice- that's it!
warning – Brought in some clothes to get fixed and when I came to pick them up, I was given someone else's clothes. When I asked about it, they said there was no way that they lost my clothes and what they gave me was mine (gave me clothes that were 5 sizes too big!). She said that there was no way there was a mix up and refused to compensate my in anyway for losing my clothes! So if they lose your clothes, it will be your fault for brining it there!
Four visits later, still not done correctly... – I had a bridesmaid dress that was absolutely huge and needed to be altered significantly. I went to Alterations by Sarah because I'd had a previous experience that was reasonably pleasant. It was definitely not so this time. The first fitting went fine, with the man assuring me it would fit by the time they were finished. He told me that I'd most likely need a second fitting, which was fine with me because I had taken it in with plenty of time until the wedding. The second fitting was OK; the dress was still a little big on top and very big in the hips, so the man chalked it again, and told me to come back the next week. I came back the next week, tried on the dress, and was pleased to find that the top fit perfectly, but was disappointed that the hips and sides had not been touched. The lady helping me told me that she wanted to take in the hips, I happily agreed, and she pinned them accordingly. Again, I was told to return the next Wednesday. When I came back for a fourth time, I was very disappointed that again, the hips and sides were not corrected. It appeared that one side had been slightly altered, but the other side hadn't been touched. So once again, I went home without a dress, and was told to come back the next day. I was unable to come in that day, so my mom offered to pick it up the next day, both of us assuming that it wouldn't require any more work, and if it did, we would just bring it back in. My mom asked Sarah that per chance it still didn't fit could we bring it back in. Sarah told her that yes, we could, but we'd be charged again for it, and then said that obviously I hadn't stated plainly what kind of work I wanted done on it. My mom had accompanied me on two of the visits and assured Sarah that I had made it very clear what needed to be done, and that each time it simply had not been done. If you have major alterations to be done at Sarah's, be sure to state plainly what you want done, so that you won't be blamed for miscommunication.
