Great Service! – Front desk is friendly. The girls doing facials are informative and thorough. They use Dermalogica products, which I love. Manis/Pedis are a bit on the expensive side compared to other establishments in the area, but they have specials on Tues. and Wed.
Good Service During the Weekdays – I've gone to the NuYu Day Spa at least 10 times over a two year period. I’ve had manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing and threading done.
Waxing- My waxing experience has been positive. The Nail Technician assigned was patient and funny. She was a thick Hispanic Woman with dark hair. She waxed very sensitive areas and in between my buttocks. I was very comfortable with how personable she was. This can be difficult when someone’s face is only a few inches from your private area. My last service was in July 2009
Manicures- The manicures are pretty basic and over priced. I would recommend going to a cheaper nail salon. The only difference that I see at NuYu is that they use several different oils. Since I wash my hands excessively, that doesn’t really work for me. My last service was in August 2009
Pedicures- The pedicures are definitely worth the money. They range form around $25-$45 dollars. I recommend the Hydrating Treatment for those of you who have dry feet. I did find it a little strange during one session that the Tech used a “Ped Egg” like in the commercial, to take off the dead skin. Overall the pedicures are great. My last service was in August 2009.
Facials- Facials at NuYu are a little tricky. Each time you go there, there is a different Esthetician. The last facial I received was the most horrible experience. My face was burned around the jaw and lip area. It took 3 months for the dead skin to come off. Funny thing, I received 3 other bad facials from NuYu prior to that from 3 different workers. The products are strong and for some reason the Estheticians don’t always appear trained. I would recommend getting a very basic steamed facial with no extractions.
Threading- In July 2009 I found out that there was no one threading eyebrows. The last time I received this service was in 2008.
Overall I would say that this spa is a perfect alternative if your regular salon is closed or crowded. Yes you do have to make an appointment, however due to the recession I doubt that the entire day will be booked.
The Receptionist can be really annoying….asking you if you need something every few minutes. It’s similar to a restaurant that has a waiter who constantly passes your table. He doesn’t give you an opportunity to enjoy your meal. They even go to the waxing/facial room to inform the Esthetician that they need to prepare for the next appointment. So much for my heavenly experience!!
This spa is really an overpriced nail salon; however it is a breath of fresh air if you’ve never been to a spa. If you can go during the week, even better. The environment on the weekdays are more relaxing. Surprisingly Saturday morning isn’t that crowded either, however the workers seem to be less enthusiastic on this day.
Great Spa – Went to NU YU for a facial and mani/pedi. The staff was great and very welcoming. It was also a plus that the staff knew what they were doing. This is one of Brooklyn's hidden treasures!
Cute space, Bad waxing – I went to Nu Yu Spa because I live in the neighborhood and wanted to support local business. The place is pretty adorable inside, and the woman at the counter was really welcoming.
I was there for waxing and it was a bit discomforting that my aesthetician did not speak English well at all. While this shouldn't matter, I know, it just feels a bit scary when you put yourself in a compromising position and the person who is putting hot wax on you has no way of communicating with you. But, I thought, English or no English she knows what she's doing and I should relax a bit.
When I got home, however, I realized she didn't really know what she was doing. My legs had patches of hair in the back that were missed, and a lot of the hair simply broke off instead of getting waxed. I am not sure if this is due to the wax they use or due to the woman who did the waxing (I've never had it happen before) but the day after, my legs felt like I had shaved them the day before. They were prickly and hair that was broken off was growing back.
That said, I was super disappointed with their waxing services and will not use them again. Maybe it's a different story for nails...
Great little spa in Clinton Hill! – I live in this neighborhood, and I love this spa! The atmosphere is charming, and the staff is AMAZING!
They are always are concerned with your needs, and the services are always consistant.
I had a massage with Keisha- which was one of the best I've ever had, and Audrey is the best at brow shaping!
