New ownership KILLED this place. – THIS USED TO BE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE RESTAURANT!
The atmosphere was warm, inviting and cozy. The food was delicious and artfully prepared. The pastries were an unbelievable work of art. Service was phenominal. IT WAS PURE PERFECTION in the heard of Bay Ridge. With the NEW ownership it feels like someone ripped the heart out of St. Germain and they did.
No more beautiful boxes that made the pastries feel so special, just got a paper bag or even worst a dirty plain white box. No more vintage posters, and cool paintings. Replaced by some cheap tasteless replicas. No more wonderful french man that always welcomed you in with a smile and a french accent. I will NEVER go back and will never advocate it the way I used to.
The pastries now are absolutely disgusting. The atmosphere is gone. EVERYTHING IS AS MEDIOCRE AS CAN POSSIBLY BE. No more classy french music in hush tones that lets you enjoy your meal and your company, now it whatever music plays on the radio.
I am truly sad to say goodbye to the old ownership and the true St. Germain experience that left with him.
Mon Dieu...everyone is a chef – Saint Germain

Brooklyn needs a good French bistro, but Saint Germain is not it.
The look of Saint Germain is really inviting and the single waiter available was helpful and friendly. The problem with Saint Germain is the food, the portions are large and the items pricey, but there are some basic skills missing.
I love Ratatouille, the flavors of the distinct individual summer vegetables is a true bounty. Saint Germans’ Ratatouille was a mash of indistinct vegetables and insipidly flavored. If I want that I would have ordered a “V-8” drink. The ravioli had so much sauce on it; it came out as a soup. The same is true for the flank steak. BTW medium to well does not mean a blood red center.
Oh well, and I really love French bistros, but not this one
Dinner for four without wine was $ 190

Aweful service, average food – This place used to be better. Now it's a poor excuse for a bistro. The food is average at best. Seems like the chef just got lazy because I cannot tell you how many times I've seen him use the microwave. Your crepes as good as they are, are microwaved. Your croissants are not baked by them, I asked the waiter. I use the term waiter loosely, the child could not have been over 16 years old, because he was incompetent and rude. The staff seems to change every month as well, nothing ever good. Like attracts like.
Excellent food, horrible service – The food is spectacular, but service has a lot to be desired for. Would have given 5 stars is we had good service. The waitress ,though very sweet, was so overwelmed by having to wait on 3 tables ignored us the whole meal. When I asked for the check, she didn't know what we ordered! I hope this was a one time incident because the food was superb and would love to go back.
Just Average – The food here is so-so and the service is terrible. We've been 3 times and this was the charm. When we haven't been waiting forever for a table (one of their waitstaff is CONSTANTLY out sick or didn't show up...), they've just outright ignored us standing there. Entrees are ok but the menu never changes and they don't allow for any substitutions. Also, the desserts are dry and tasteless: any Parisian would be insulted.
Encore – This place is a wonderful addition to 3rd Avenue and there should be more like it! The food is authentic and tasty. The decor is very casual french bistro with vintage posters, tin ceilings, etc. The cocktails, beer and wine selections are excellent and the staff is friendly and accomodating.
We recently had a small private party there and couldn't be happier.
Also, don't leave without trying one of the beautiful and delicious french desserts from the pastry case. You can also just walk in and pick some up to bring home or to a visit at a friend's house.
Best French food I've had since I was in Paris – This adorable little restuarant is like a haven amongst all the cheesy Italian restaurants that take up most of the 3rd Avenue. The decor is very French and very cozy. The place is clean and well lit. I have never had a problem with the service, the waitstaff is always pleasent and efficient. The menu is small but everything on it is outstanding. Brunch is my favorite, and it comes with dessert which is the best part of the meal. I have never had such a perfect crepe in the states, melts in your mouth. The omelettes are light, fluffy and tasty. The dessert is to die for. Best so far is the flourless chocolate cake, but the chocolate ganach is a close second.
