decent standby – been here many times, the food is usually pretty good. Grilled chicken sand., mozzerella sticks, chicken fingers and fries all really good. Nachos and quesadillas not so much. Seriously above average prices. Clean, plenty of tv's. Service is sometimes weird, very slow and the staff look totally miserable and confused. We've had mixed experiences with the bartender (big guy with red hair) most often he's really unfriendly. But if you live nearby, it's a good-enough standby to grab some beers, watch a game, have some snacks. Just don't expect much from the staff, and be prepared to pay $12 for chicken fingers!
Editorial Review – Downtown Bar & Grill is a great place to catch a game on a flat screen, hang out with friends and eat some great food in Cobble Hill!
Cool Place – was wandering around BK the other day and ran into this place. it seemed pretty cool so i went in to sit and wait for my friends. NOTE: they have a lot of beer. loads of beer that i have never heard of. this is a tab frustrating for me b/c i have no ideas about beer! luckily..the people that work there do!! had some crazy brews that totally rocked. the food was regular american bar food and was pretty good. not as good as the beer...but really what is?
Positives and Negatives – I've been here many times, and there are things I like a lot about this place, and some not so great things, as well. I usually get the chicken sandwich, which is always delicious, especially with their yummy fries. I was with a friend who had the penne vodka once, and it looked like marinara, and he said it did not taste at all like vodka sauce. The quesadillas were not very good, and that's usually one of my favorites. The nachos are just ok. Chicken fingers are great (although $12 for chicken fingers is shocking). The wait service is not the best, as others have noticed. It's true, the owner (or manager?) as well as other staff, walk around looking extremly unhappy, and no matter how slow it is, service can sometime be pretty poor. We've also had experiences where the bartender is just plain nasty, acting like we're annoying him for sitting there and ordering a drink. The ambiance is very nice, a clean, good-looking sports bar setting with plenty of big TV's and a pretty big bar. Delievery is usually quick, and they have never gotten an order wrong, even when we make changes. Very pricey!
Worst restaurant in brooklyn – cellar101...who wrote the review about the service...couldn't be more accurate. Not only does it take a substantial amount of time to get seated and noticed. But all the servers and the proprieter walk around with scowles on their face. Possible one of the most uninviting places in all of brookyn. I ordered take out from this place the other day and after an HOUR AND A HALF still didn't have my food. I called Downtowns and asked for the manager. I asked him what I, as a customer need to do about this....and the man HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME. Thats one action that as a business owner..is unacceptable. There are plenty other restaurants in Brooklyn who value cutsomers and take appropriate action to rectify their errors when they occur. What I encountered at Downtowns is something that no one should have to deal with...especially in a place such as NYC where competition between these types of establishments is very high. I will never...ever again eat at nor order from this restaurant again. I am going to talk to all my friends in this neighborhood and encourage them to never eat at or order out from this restaurant again. I am absolutly discusted and am sure that once experience at Downtowns Bar and Grill is all you will need to share my feelings.
the worst service i've had in nyc!!! – i've never writen a review before because i try to let these things go and normally think that complaining is a waste of energy....however my awful experience at this place has forced me.
we walked in the door and stood around for a bit waiting for someone to acknowlede us. we asked the bartender if we should seat ourselves when it became apparent that noone was coming. he nodded so we grabbed some menus and sat ourselves. after 10 min. without a hello or drink order my boyfriend went to the bar to place our order. the bartender acted surprised and asked where we were sitting, interestingly enough we were sitting right in front of the bar. at one point another "employee" walked into the room holding a pack of cigarettes. we were happy to see him thinking "great here's the server he was just on a break" we eagerly watched him go behind the bar where he stayed with scowl on his face. eventually we heard the kitchen bell ring and saw that it was our food but apparently we were the only ones because the bartender didn't go over to retrieve and serve our food for another 10 min. the salads we ordered were small and certainly not worth the $11 each we payed for them. half way through the meal we realized that the creepy old man who had been standing behind our table watching tv was the proprietor...... he too never acknowledged us.
this was, hands down, the worst dining experience in terms of service that i've had in ny and i've had plenty. you should avoid downtown bar and grill at all costs.
Imbibing Delight – One word to describe this place, would be unmentionable. I've been to a couple of beer bars in my life, and this indeed has a wide and varied selection of beers from around the world. The US selection is impressive, Dogfish, Wyerbacher, Great Divide, Avery, Rogue just to name a few. I was in this past week and treated myself to the Dogfish 120, Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout, and Sam Adams Utopia. If you know beer you'll know what I am talking about. The night I was in they were stocking their wall unit which is along the back wall beside the bar. It was an amazing sight to see, a wall of patriotic beer. The bartender told me they had something like 280 American craft beers in bottle with the complete selection in the region of 600 with plans to increase to 1000.
In my younger years I visited Berlin and thought the House of 100 Beers was impressive - but this place blew me away. I left with a smile on my head and a copy of their beer bible (my words).
