Wouldn't Bother! – Genuinely overrated; has only one pool table and attracts and "interesting" crowd thanks to its video lottery area. Food is not worth it. I've had a couple of decent nights there but I don't agree with the reviews that it's an "awesome!" bar, or one of the best in Portland. It's mediocre, at best. Kareoke is decent, seating is limited on weekends, very boring bar unless you are completely wasted. Also, it's far away from anything else that's even remotely interesting, so it's not a convenient place to go for a night on the town; if you get drunk, there's no where else within walking distance, so you're kind of stuck... Honestly, I don't recommend this place unless you have absolutely nowhere better to go.
Good service. – I can stand suki's on a normal night without the karoke. because the faboulous kj is always raining men at half past ten. Its too dark, no ventilation for the smokers.
Best Crusty place in Portland! – Ok so I have been to Suki's like 20 times now over the past 12 months and I must say that it is one of the best places to be in portland. I have spent many nights at other Karaoke/Comedy clubs and I must say that the "Dive" that is Suki's is the one I think is worth the most.
This crusty little jewel of a bar has a "Ratpack" feel to the regulars but as an outsider you totally feel comfortable joining in the fun.
Of the 4 Comedy shows I have caught have been pretty racey, not for the timid or easily offended. Dax Jordan is your host on Comedy night, this guy is much funnier than most of his open mic comedians, but there is a few like Veronica Heath and Lonnie Bruhn that make some of the others worth sitting through.. Oh and Josh something the tall southern comic is a total riot too...
The other nights I have been at Suki's have always been Karaoke nights. The people are diverse and friendly.. The regulars are friendly and some are stunningly talented and very nice to look at too..
But the real heart of Suki's is the Excellent Bartenders, Lisa, Nikki and Brad these three make you feel like your at "Your" Bar... they might not remember what your favorite drink is but they will remember your face and welcome you back. They are plesant and very quick on the pour. Lisa is the beautiful sassy blonde behind the bar and Nikki is one of the most beautiful people I have ever had a chance to talk to.. she is also a fantastic mixologist. I have only had Brad serve me a couple of times but he can keep up with the girls in the drink slinging and he seems to be a real good fit with the girls behind the bar.. Plus the guy can sing Karaoke and pour beer at the same time. didn't even miss a note.
I think I have given up the boiler room and the other Karaoke places, Suki's feels like "my" bar now.. So I guess I am going to hang out there.. Hope to see you..
Editorial Review – Karaoke and comedy lounge is open late. Also, patrons can pick up a pool stick or some pot stickers.
Best karaoke, best staff (they make you feel like you are in your living room!) – wow. you better check it out. nothing else like it in town. karaoke on the weekends. d&d (yep, dungeons and dragons!) on sundays and mondays, open mic comedy on tuesday with professionals working local and national comics AND beginners/amateurs (any one who wants to tell jokes on the mic!) free pool!?! free wi-fi!?! jeesh. like i said, nothing like it.
Suki's is a awesome place.. it is the place to have fun and meet great people. – Suki's is just plain and simple fun. Tuesday nights at 9pm there is local comedy talent with some special guests from out of town from time to time. But the real GEM of Suki's is Richard the KJ.. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights you will find him and some of the most entertaining and creative people hanging out and cutting lose. The regular crowd includes some of the best of Portlanders. The food is great, the drinks are the best in town, the bartenders are pleasant and well versed in great customer service. Suki's is the best kept secret in Portland.. Once you come visit you won't be able to stay away.
Like hanging in your living room, with the coolest people around – Suki's is a FABULOUS good time!! The crowd is diverse, and really, really friendly. D1ck the KJ is a terrific host, and the weekend bartenders are exceptional, making everyone feel welcome, and well taken care of. There is fair amount of regulars, but this is not a cliquey kind of a bar..new faces are welcomed, and most likely, by the end of the evening, you will have met at least half a dozen people!! The food is great, reasonably priced, and is served up in generous portions in a short amount of time. On karaoke nights, make sure you arrive before 10:30, so as not to miss D1ck's rendition of "It's Raining Men".
Tuesday nights are another good night at Suki's. Open mic comedy hosted by Dax Jordan. There are a fair number of local comics who return every week, but there are always new faces. Tuesdays regular bartender is a gem as well, and she is quite sassy, often getting dragged into banter with one of the comics who tries to insert her into their schtick. Again, there are regulars, but the people who come for the comedy and then stay for the hanging out are an easy to get to know group.
Overall, Suki's is my favorite place to go and hang out. The addition of 10,000 new songs to the karaoke book, coupled with the fact that D1ck does a great job of getting everyone up to sing makes it a karaoke junkies paradise. Pool, comedy, karaoke, good food and great staff make Suki's worth a first visit! And after that first visit, you will be back....
Best Karaoke in Town! – I've worked in many bars that offer karaoke and also been a patron....this place rocks! From the friendly bar staff to the outrageous KJ....everyone always seem to be having a great time. The KJ goes out of his way to keep things fair, even so far as to not accept tips (otherwise known as 'bribes' in most karaoke bars) The drink prices are fair and the crowd is the most unusual mix of theater performers and locals that I've ever seen! Even if you're not a singer, you'll have a blast at Suki's!
