We arrived early (10 minutes before they were even to open for dinner) and they seated us right away. Most places would have made us wait or complained. We enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. Will be back.
Epic, Have you gotten arrogant or Lazy? – My husband and I have been dining with Epic for 3 years. This past year 2010-2011 we have been disappointed. We kept going back with hopes that it was just a bad night. We are sad to say we will not be returning until we see improvements written by others. Some things we feel have just gone down hill. Service- Greeted usually by a pretty boy with muscles and lacking in the social/customer service department. A waiter or waitress who looks as though they are part of a rock band lacking in the social and energy department. No knowledge of the menu and if you want a wine connoisseur to help you match the taste with the dish you order, forget it. Food-Quality is no longer the key element for this restaurant. The salmon was overcooked and dry. The pasta seafood dish? Well it should of been called "pasta dish"ONLY. The risotto- New dish on the menu. I was excited to try this since it was my first experience with risotto. Disappoint. I was wondering if I was suppose to tasting the ingredients or just straight up salt. Sorry Epic for this harsh review. We dined at Wild Rose who is the sister restaurant of Epic. Very pleased!!! Perhaps Epic has become arrogant or just lazy.
Best Casual Restaurant in the Valley – Epic is a true neighborhood hot spot. Contemporary decor, live music, outstanding food, and exceptional service leave you wanting to come back for more. If you are looking for a hip and trendy place to hang out with friends or a place to take the family to dinner epic is the spot. They have low turn over rate and we are yet to go there without being remembered by someone who works there which is very impressive!!!!
epic is EPIC! – All of you people who are talking shmack on this place are crazy!!! I don't know if you were just there on an off night or what because this place is amazing. the flavor of the food is awesome. honestly, some of the best food this city has to offer. if you know good food, you will know that this place has got it. the service is friendly, more than willing to accomodate special requests such as switching the sides or holding the mushrooms. the live music is great. the owner is awesome too which makes me happy to support a place like this. this place is great for parties because they are so willing to work with you. the ahi is the greatest thing i've ever tasted and the chicken flatbread is to die for the salads are all divine too. if you don't like epic then go back to applebee's. awesome place.
Horrible! OVERPRICED BAD FOOD – I ate at Epic for the first time last Friday and will never return. The food is "blah" and WAY over priced for the poor quality. I was with 2 other people. One of my friends ordered the "special" Mahi-mahi $23- when she cut into it it was totally raw in the middle. She told the waitress who seemed unconcerned and tried to pass it off as "some of the fish is cooked that way" - uh, not Mahi-mahi! My friend sent it back and ordered another dish- pasta approx $16- it was totally blah and boring - she could have gotten something better at noodles & co (and that isn't saying much).
My other friend ordered the steak approx $20- it looked one step above cafeteria food. It was chewy and gross. I ordered the chicken $16 - the chicken didn't seem fresh (probably frozen), there was no flavor, it was undercooked. All and all we we tried 4 entrees and every one of them was bad!
The service was bad we waited for our check for at least 15 minutes and finally had to flag the waitress down and ask for it & it wasn't even busy!
I would not recommend this place to anyone. We spent almost $100 and left hungry and unsatisfied!
There is nothing "epic" about this place- the presentation is bad, the food is bad, the prices are bad, the food doesn't taste fresh, the service is bad... shall I go on? (I would give is zero stars but apparently that is not and option)
Just OK – The food is pricey and is just ok. I had the Ahi Tuna and thought the peanut sauce was to sweet. The rice was very plain and did not mesh well with the peanut sauce. The glass of wine is priced good. I doubt I will go again. Just not worth the money. $36.00 with tax and tip for one meal and a glass of wine. I expect more for that price.
Me and my wife have eaten around SLC. There are many places we love such as Takashi and Bambara. However, we will not be returning to Epic.
First, for a place that paints itself as a more upscale establishment, the seating is too tight, like what you would expect at IHOP.
We had the $9 crab cakes for an appetizer. Two tiny cakes were brought to our table. They had a slightly greasy feel to them and not much in the way of crab. The Balsamic Remoulade was okay.
I had the pork medallions with the caramelized onions and sherry/sage demi-glace. The onions were not caramelized all that well and my demi-glace was more like a brown gravy. None of the richness or texture one would expect of a true demi-glace was present. The dish tasted dead and lifeless. It was missing seasoning and an acid counterpoint.
My wife had the chicken breast with the mushroom/marsala reduction. Interestingly, her reduction tasted and looked almost exactly the same as my ?demi-glace?. Also, her potatoes had a grainy texture like you would get from instant potato spuds.
A most disappointing experience especially seeing how packed the restaurant was.
Great food and great price! – I have been going to Epic for quite some time now and have never had a bad experience. Although the atmosphere isn't great because the tables are crammed in a small space and it is VERY loud, the food is wonderful! I have eaten there several times and everything I have had has been fantastic. I have salads, chicken, steak, and fish and I have never had a bad meal. The wine selection is good and the dessert menu doesn't have a bad option. I would advise you to stay away if you are looking for a quiet and romantic dinner because this is not the place for that. But it would be great for casual or business dinners. Also it is not great for large parties because the space is so small. But the the food is worth it and reasonably priced! You should definately check it out!
Fine dining while serenaded by acoustic guitarist - this is a great place to dine! Awesome service. – If you're in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley or coming off of a day riding Big Cottonwood, go to this restaurant! It's like fine dining meets comfort food.
The filet mignon dinner with the port reduction is my favorite. The flatbreads are tasty (especially the blue cheese brie). They have a guitarist that plays on Wed and Thurs nights that makes the experience stand out even more from the other dining options in the area.
If wine is your thing, I have found every server capable of steering me to one of my old favorites or a new one from their extensive wine list. Tell them what kind of wine you like and they'll point you to the right bottle.
Snuggled unassumingly between the Arby's and the Burger King, this restuarant will surprise you the moment you walk in the door. Thank you for choosing Midvale as your home!
Great food! – I have no idea what the review before mine is talking about! Epic's chicken Marsala is fantastic. Every time my family and I go in there we always get great food, great service, and we love the atmosphere. On weekends they have live music and is a great place for date, or an outing with friends. Every time we go there at least one of the owners comes to our table and asks how our meal was. A nice touch i think. I recommend the steak flat bread, a Mr. Morton salad, and either the salmon and noodles or of course, the chicken marsala. This restaurant is owned by the same people as Tiburon and is just a good, and is cheaper too if your on a budget. Worth every dollar!
