2009 Jan 10: Wen to Sushi Wa for lunch based on reviews here. I must say, I was disappointed. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted with a nice decor and "Irasshaimase!" which, in Japanese, means welcome. However, that is the extent of the Japanese spoken here. As I tried to communicate, in Japanese, I am greeted by english questions. In fact, I think every staffer here spoke Korean.
I ordered the lunch special, which the menu says, consists of 5 pieces of sushi (Tuna, white tuna, albacore, shrimp, and salmon) and a choice of rolls, and miso soup. I chose California roll. I also had 1 side order of hamachi. The lunch special 5 pieces was exactly 5 pieces, not 5 pairs as is usually the case in sushi restaurants. The hamachi came out as a pair.
The taste was awful. The fish seemed to be fresh, but everything else was mediocre at best.
Fish - quality was good (I give 3 out of 5), but the cut was too big, and you could tell it was cut by
a dull knife by an inexperienced sushi chef. I doubt that these chefs here have had formal training as a
Miso Soup - tofu and seaweed with red miso. This was actually pretty good (4 out of 5 stars).
Rice - The rice of the sushi was really bad (0 stars out of 5). It was way over cooked and mushy, no taste of vinegar whatsoever, and it was very poorly formed. Also, they do not put any wasabi on the sushi which is the norm. In authentic sushi restaurants, wasabi is standard on sushi and one must explicitly as for "sabi-nuki" if you don't want wasabi on your sushi.
California Roll - bad (1 out of 5 stars) - Imitation crab is used and is very bland in taste. Possibly the worst
California Roll I have ever had.
All in all, I would not recommend this place to any authentic sushi lovers. All I can say is that
this is an Imitation Sushi joint.
Fresh Seafood, nice decor – A local event planner recommended us this sushi restaurant. We were told the head chef at WA used to be one of the chefs at the Nobu's. I'd have to say Sushi Wa is on my top 5. It is on the pricy side for a neighborhood restaurant. Maybe that is why the place wasn't packed for dinner. But you pay what you get for. The seafood is very fresh. Especially when you order the sashimi you can tell right away. They have some inventive dishes that are worth trying. Overall the food is well presented and taste great too.
Great Sushi & Great Price – I've eaten there on two occasions. It's always been great food & fast friendly service. I recommend going for lunch on your 1st visit there. They have 1/2 price rolls Mon.-Sat. 11:30am-3pm. This is great because it gives you the opportunity to try many things you may not try if you had to pay full price. There's many many options to choose from as well. Not a small selection by any means. Sushi Wa is much better than I Love Sushi. I've also eaten at I Love Sushi & it's been horrible both times. My Mom got sick when she went there.
Worst place ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very dirty... – It's the most dirty place I've ever went. I would rather go to makino or kaizen for a cheaper price..
The only thing sushi wa do really well.. is getting money and tips from the customers...
Very expensive..... and the food is the worst... really really lazy service....
I assume the person who wrote the review right before me... is the owner.. the shortest sushi chef ever..
who pretends as if he's a Japanese...
Talking about the sushi chefs... they pretend as if they are nice.. kind...
but they are not.. the only thing they care about is how to get more money and tip from the customers...
Please don't go to this place... I'm writing this for you... the worst experience ever...
Great sushi, awesome presentation, great sushi chefs! – I am really surprised how Sushi Wa received some bad reviews.... I honestly think this restaurant is excellent!!! Their sushi rolls and sashimi are a bit more expensive than your normal sushi restaurant, but it's because of their quality. You can order unsual cuts of fish that you will not find anywhere else. Ok, maybe at Nobu's but there you WILL pay the price!!! Sit at the sushi bar - meet the owner June and his two other sushi chefs: Kevin and Mike. They are great fun guys and will make your sushi experience unforgettable. For those who complained about waiting for their food, did you take into consideration the presentation? How detailed they are? Having a sushi dinner is not like going to a fast food restaurant... Enjoy the atmosphere.. have a glass of sake and laugh with the sushi chefs, you will have a great time at Sushi Wa. I go there myself at least 3 times a month.
too bad ...too slow... – i could say this place is slowest serving restaurant in entire henderson city.
wow! wow! surprise surprise cant get a sushi for 1 hour
gggggggggggggggg terrible i had enough
ok but not great – first when I arrived i got seated and I've order drinks and appetizer ..............ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
it took 20 minutes to get my sashimi and i ordered several rolls,It never came to my
table . My wife was hungry and My boys are hungry ,I just walked out from the restaurant after waiting
50 minutes for meal .
Best shushi in town – The choices of sushi are great, the food is fresh, the service is great evryone is really friendly, the lighting in there is great. I would definitely recomend it.
